  1. Thanks, Gubaba. That is the design to be used on those new Hasegawa VF-1's, and I wanted a good scan of that picture ever since I first saw it.
  2. This is a good point, and a common misconception which leads to complaints like "duh, speakers in space?? Stooopid!" Well, the complainers aren't really paying much attention. Then again, how does that explain the VF-19P? (Actually, I think I remember reading something about the speaker system in the 19P in the Mac-Chronicle a while back, I will re-check...
  3. There sort of is a PV for Burning Fire, on the Nyan-nyan UMD-Video. It's like a CG movie in the same style as "All that VF". Unfortunately, it does not feature Basara and gang, just mecha, and it's mostly just a VF-1S and VF-25F at that. Bettter than nothing, though
  4. Oops forgot about this thread... "Hello all, I am putting together a petition for all the fans who want a sequel to Macross 7 as the next project for the 30th Anniversary of Macross. I would like a show just like the OVA Dynamite 7, but with a new title for the 30th anniversary and with the characters unchanged and the original Lynn Minmay brought back. I'm sure everyone would appreciate Director Tetsuro Amino from the previous works to return and do this one, too. But first we need to get the attention of the Macross production staff and so I have set up a committee (?) to put together this petition. Please participate!" A little late with the translation... sorry. Anyway... 過激にファイヤー!!! "KAGEKINI FIRE!!!!"
  5. Thanks, I had already tried all of that, to the best of my knowledge. I kept pausing the game to make sure there were no other units before I took on the ships. I think I might still be killing Chlore too early. I'm gonna hang around for a while after she shows up next time. If that still doesn't work I'm giving up for a while, it's no longer fun otherwise. As for the Cutlass and VF2SS etc, yeah you have to complete the game first! I think I have them all except the red VF-1S and Millia's VF-9. Feff was real tough to beat. Also, I need the SAP packs for the VF-2SS. What do I have to do to get that one?
  6. These ones are much bigger than the non-transformable ones. There is a size comparison in one of the mags.
  7. So......... I still really want to know what's on that Macross Fever DVD. Is it the promos, and new footage and stuff? I've heard of some sightings of it in Tokyo from Alex. Tochiro? Save? Can anyone confrim the content?
  8. Wow, that's tomorrow already! Guess I'll check it out. I still really want to know what's on that Macross Fever DVD. Is it the promos, and new footage and stuff? I've heard of some sightings of it in Tokyo from Alex. Tochiro? Save? Can anyone confrim the content? Obviously I'm going off topic so I will ask this in the Pachinko thread as well.
  9. Last night I take down my VF-25G from the shelf after months in fighter mode to find it has transformed..... into a floppy hunk-a-junk. I have no idea how pretty much all the joints (head, thighs, sideskirt gun things) have become so loose without me ever touching them. Not to mention that infernal crotch-lock is weak as a poodle now, again. Note that this is the REPLACEMENT one which Bandai sent me. Note also that I wrote my signature even way before this happened. Is it going to get even worse now? Will it just melt? God, this thing is such an overpriced, overhyped piece of trash.
  10. Well, from what I remember, Kajiura was saying that next year she was planning a concert to coincide either with the 15th anniversary since her debut on some date in July, or with her birthday, which is the following day. Some audience member shouted "both!" And then there was more banter, but of course it was hard to hear because only Chie had a mic, and I can't remember, but there were voices from the audience with requests and whatnot. One guy (probably the one that shouted "both") kept interrupting her until she just said 「黙って!」 At times she was like a kindergarten teacher, at one point calling an audience member "Good boy!" when he said he bought her album or something like that.
  11. Well, I think Mylene is just named after Mylene Farmer? As for Lynn Minmay, having a Chinese name ("Ling Ming-mei"?), has the kanji: 「鈴明美」 for her name (little bell / bright / beauty). Apparently, in the version of Macross broadcast in China, her name was written with the characters 「林明美」 which mean forest / bright / beauty. The "bell" was probably meant to reflect the musical aspect. EDIT -- argh, sniped by Gubaba!
  12. OK, tried the Strongest Women mission again using Basara with no partner. No go. B-rank this time! Even worse, because now I get a zero for no "Partner Survival" bonus. I argue that my partner did survive -- he stayed inside the frickin' hangar, didn't he?? Still zero on "Destroyed all enemy waves". Then I tried it with Max's VF-22. No go. A-rank only, again. The reason again being a zero on "Destroyed all enemy waves". Near the end I was thinking that maybe it was because up to now I was killing Chlore too fast, perhaps too early, before more enemies could appear. This time, since my 22 is not as powerful as the Fire Valk, it took a bit longer to take her out, and sure enough, enemies were popping up here and there while we were battling, so I disengaged with her to swiftly take out the other Q-raus and when those were gone I got back to my duel with Chlore. Alas, that damn results screen keeps laughing at me. EDIT -- I'm gonna try leaving the ships until the end.
  13. The term "Basara" in Japanese, though originally brought over from the Sanskrit "vajra", during the Muromachi period was written 「婆裟羅」 or 「婆佐羅」, and it was a common phrase basically meaning "devil may care" in philosophy, and "extravagant" and "wild" in nature. I think that suits the character of Basara to a tee. I don't play them, but I see this term often in RPG games set in the feudal Japan warring states eras, like "Sengoku Basara" and whatnot. I would say he's Passionate (Nekki) and Wild (Basara). For the whole Vajra and Buddhism angle, there is an entire in-depth article about the correlations in Indian mythology with elements of Macross Frontier (including the whole galaxy-spanning brainwave-network thing) in a recent issue of either "Continue" or "Otona no Anime", or some other smaller-size magazine like that, I cannot remember exactly which.
  14. OK..... Thanks....
  15. Argh, I still cannot get above A on the M7 "Fleet of the Strongest Women" mission. One of the bonuses is to "destroy all enemy waves", apparently, and I always get zero on that. I'm using a virtually maxed-out Fire Valk and pretty much taking out anything that moves in one fell swoop so I have no idea what I could be missing. I'm going to try the mission without a partner next time, see if that helps. After that, I should get Sound Boosters, right? Or is that AFTER doing some Chronicle version of the level??

  17. Still trying not to read any of this thread. I am just posting to say that I will catch this movie this weekend. I have to say I'm not looking forward to having to share the cinema with all the otaku from the entire Kyoto area since it is only showing in one screen in the whole prefecture. They better fumigate the damn place after every showing. I still cannot understand why they don't dare to break out of this niche. Thirty screens nationwide is just ridiculous.
  18. Yeah, those are my favourite.
  19. From what I gather, you have to buy the separate Robotech DVDs, collect the enclosed coupons, send them off and then you can recieve the respoctive box set of the original series for free. They're not actually on sale, and there is no option to get them without going through Robotech first. For example, it says you can exchange the coupons from DVDs 1 to 9 of Roboteck to get your SDF Macross box set. Essentially, it's a case of "buy our messed up crap, lap it all up, and then we'll let you know what it's supposed to taste like".
  20. Unfortunately -- even though I got there early -- they didn't even let us inside the damn place until 5 minutes before the show, because I had tickets no. 1213 and 14... I only had time to use the bathroom (after waiting outside in the freezing cold by the harbour for about one and a half hours), buy my compulsory drink and rush in. By the time the concert ended I checked but all the exclusive stuff was gone and all that remained on sale were the old Macross 7 albums and some Fukujin DVDs. The T-shirts and stuff I didn't care for, I saw people wearing them and they looked rather plain, so I felt no loss (besides, I have my awesome "burning guitar" design T-shirt from the Nekki Basara tribute concert in 2005). What I was really after was the "Rebirthday Tripper" DVD which is basically a documentary on the making of the "Rebirthday" album. It's 1500 yen for 20 minutes, which is not the best deal ever, but I'm really interested in that stuff so it sucks I wasn't able to obtain it. And apparently, there will be no online sale of these items, according to the website. Which is odd, what else are they gonna do with them? Flog 'em to Mandarake?? Or maybe they produced just enough to sell at the concerts. Anyway, I really wanted to see that DVD!
  21. Well, I was just checking Fukuyama's website, and they uploaded the set lists for both shows. I was kind of annoyed to find that they performed one more song in Tokyo than in Osaka, and that song was "Waiting for You", which is one I was really looking forward to hearing! I feel kind of ripped off now. How can they leave out a brand new song from the set list?? If anything leave out something like Planet Dance or Seventh Moon. I'm glad we got Magic Rhapsody, but still.... I'm wondering if it wasn't a last minute change or something. Fukuyama mentioned his voice was kind of coarse and he did seem to be in an unnaturally high key (or perhaps just singing in a different voice) in most of the songs for this performance. In fact, he screwed up a few guitar riffs, most noticeably the closing strumming section of Submarine Street, which I was shocked at. So overall, it was nice to see Chie and Fukuyama together, but I have been to see him six or seven times before and this was probably one of the few times I have been ever so slightly disappointed. He still rocks the house, especially during the improv/band-member-solo sections which just fill me with awe every time, but I have to wonder if he didn't overdo it in Tokyo the previous night. The Fukuyama banter was funny as always, though. I love the way he was like "Yeah, we did that big concert a while back, what was it? The Cross-something live? Yeah, whatever." Also Chie Kajiura telling one audience member to shut up.
  22. Dammit, I just found out about the delay today when my wife told me she got a notification from Amazon about it (she had ordered it as a present for me). I was looking forward to receiving it this weekend and putting it under the Christmas tree. Now I have to wait until AFTER Christmas... argh, it's just like Macross Ace Frontier last year!! I've been a good boy, damn you, Santa!!
  23. "Sashays"? And last time I checked, the Tokyo venue was the CC Lemon hall. Isn't that a fairly large locale? The Kansai one is Zepp Osaka, where Franz Ferdinand played last week. I would say this is a fairly big event, maybe not Budokan, but nonetheless. What are the T-shirts like, by the way?
  24. Would there be less hesitation if I were to point out that Kawamori did not design the Cheyenne (either of them)? Not that I'd adamantly assert that I knew for a fact those wheels on the Cheyenne are an homage to the Macross II destroids or anything, though.
  25. EDIT: Talking about EPISODE 4! I only had time to catch the first 15-18 minutes of this today. First of all, I have to say that the "Previously..." recap is a load of crap. None of the important scenes are in there!! You have the fans lunging at and trying to punch Basara with him dodging, and you see Mylene get pushed, but you do not see Basara let it rip and then later having to explain that what he did was wrong and why. That was awful, awful execution. It's like they took the most random scenes to flashback to. Does this mean anything to anyone who missed the previous episode?? I don't see why it's there. OK, so vampires. Interesting new angle, now we've got infiltrators as a result of the previous enemy operation last episode. I've only watched up until the part Basara is about to launch into battle, but I should mention that Basara's "I'm high and almighty" attitude might begin here, with his argument with Mylene where she claims he's coming in too late in a song and vice versa. "What are you talking about?? It's you who's early!" "I'm playing it as it's written!" and "You just don't get it, you have to build up the emotion!" "So what about the harmony??" etc... Again, I like these arguments. They argue because they care. Neither of them are like, "ok, whatever, I'll come in earlier, then". Also, a bit of background on Mylene's philosophy. "I ran away from home. There's no way I can go back and accept help just because I got in a spot of trouble. I really hate those kinds of half-assed things!" In a way, she is like Basara. She has her beliefs. And that is why Basara answers with a simple "I see". He has absolutely nothing to argue about here, and knows she is right and true to herself. He even looks glad to hear her say that. I think this is the first time the pair "agree" (i.e. don't argue) about something, and it is quite poignant. Anyway, there's plenty more going on in the ep, including Max & Millia stuff, but I'll leave that for next time to discuss. EDIT 2 -- I'm quoting the dialogue from memory and I watched it raw earlier today. I apologise if I'm paraphrasing a bit. But they are memorable enough, so they should be fairly accurate. Osaka concert tomorrow!! BOMBAA!
