  1. Hi there, Peaugh. Welcome to Macrossworld. I have seen your reviews a couple of times, they're very impressive and informative. I'm hoping for a VF-11 review, as well.
  2. I have to echo Kronnang Dunn's post a little. I always found it confusing that some sources called the UN after the end of Space War One (i.e., after the integration of the Zentradi to Earth culture), the "New United Government". (新統合政府). Sketchley, when you mention upper and lower case "n"'s, what sources are you referring to? And what are the "later" works that drop the name (because if you mean Zero, that was obviously before 2010)? The narrator clearly states that the 新統合政府 New United Government was formed in 2010 in the opening narration of the first bunch of Macross 7 episodes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRwGssP-3Fo
  3. What was Emerald Thunder?
  4. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "Sniper Guy" yet. That guy reminds me of Colonel Johnson from Mospeada. Except without the backstabbing selling out of troops to the enemy.
  5. Yay! Magazine-limited exclusives!! Ugh.. Seriously. Anyway, as I posted in the SCOOPDA thread, Kaiyodo is advertising a reissue of their Regult...
  6. OK, I got my Kai today. Overall, it is nice. Transformation is not exactly a breeze because of all the adjusting you have to do here and there, in particular the chest-locking system (at least there is one, though!). Once it clicks, you know you've got it, but I imagine it will take a while to get used to. Gerwalk is a disappointment, it has the same problems the DX 25 had, which is that the ankles do not rotate back far enough and the knees do not bend forward far enough, so it looks awkward. But still, better than the DX which just topples over because it does not even have ratchet joints in the ankles. At least the VF-19 does. I find the problems in Gerwalk a bit more bizarre due to the fact Bandai so obviously ripped off and improved many engineering elements from Yamato in terms of transformation techniques, and improved upon them, but the decided not to copy their Gerwalk system. Bah, whatever. I personally do not mind so much that there is no landing gear, though I agree there should be some. And yes, it was animated in the show in at least one episode, when they go on the "Mark Twain". Poseability... OK. Not great, but this is the VF-19 we're talking about. The hips have always been and will always be problematic by design, as they are based firmly on anime magic. Lastly, this is a partsformer, and as such it is a little tedious to transform what with all these damn tight little bits of plastic shooting across the room. One almost got me in the eye, I'm not kidding, if I hadn't blinked I'd be blind now. I'm probably not gonna bother with the leg pieces from now on. And the biggest problem is the gun-hand. It is really, really loose. It holds in the socket, but it does not stay in position and the gun more often than not just wants to droop upside down. I realize I haven't said many positive things, but overall I am happy with the toy, it is just what I expected, a transforming Fire Valkyrie. That's enough. Is it worth the money? For me, yes. If you like the VF-19Kai, get this toy. It basically is to the Yamato 1/60 YF-19 what the 1/60 v2 VF-1 is to the 1/48: i.e. there are some new problems, but overall it is a revised and polished design, at a cheaper price point. I have attached some some size comparisons. I got mine for Y5,500 and I find that to be relatively priced right, when you consider the prices of Yamatos. Also, it seems much larger (not to mention is a totally different kettle of fish) than a VF100s 25, although I do not own one, I have only seen them in shops. I'm satisfied with what I got for what I paid (except for the lack of closed fists). A stand would have been nice, but I can live without one.

    SCOOP thread!

I cannot find any link on the net right now for some reason, but the Revoltechs out in the shops right now are being displayed with little strips advertising the February releases, one of which seems to be a reissue of their Regult. I think it's out on the 15th of Feb.
  8. Avatar making big headlines this week, what with the Chinese wanting it banned and all. For me, the biggest news has been this, though, in Taiwan: http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/film/...over-excitement I wonder how detrimental (if at all) this will be to the current 3D trend.
  9. So, I'm watching Orguss 02 after what must be over ten years. I bought the Manga VHS tapes way back in the day, and I only considered the series to be so-so. So much so that I actually put off getting the final volume for quite a long while. I have to say, upon this most recent viewing this week (I still have the last episode to go), it really left a totally different impression. Not least because of the fact that this is the first time watching it since having seen the original series -- it does seem to make all the difference. I'm wondering what people think of this show?
  10. I know. I cannot get past the title. There is no Karate in any way shape or form in that trailer. It's like having "Terminator" without the Terminators, "Aliens" without the aliens... However, it probably wouldn't have any problems when released in Japan -- The original "Karate Kid" was titled "Best Kid" over here (and Best Kid 2, 3, etc). It's like they saw the film, said "I dunno what that was, but it ain't Karate", so they changed it. I'm just waiting for them to go with the original "KK" title kept in for this one in a totally bizarre twist. Cos that's just how it's done over here, the more nonsensical, the better.
  11. Not sure if this has been posted already... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMsZM-MNI1A&feature=fvw Hmm. Where. Do. I. BEGINNN???
  12. Argh! I literally just had the link sent to me by a friend and watched it just now. I log in to MW to make a thread, and I find I've been SCOOPDA'd!! EDIT -- Also, you literally started the thread ONE minute before my post. That means I should not have even watched the entire 1'44'' trailer.
  14. Bumped this, since I believe this will be either later today or tomorrow for you guys in the area. I met with Patrick and Professor Lamarre a few weeks ago and they really know their stuff, so I reccommend people in the area to pop round. VFTF1, there is a chance they will publish something, at least online. Will let you know as soon as I hear about it.
  15. I know there was already a thread about this, but in the World Guide Sheet, the section on the Skull Squadron in SDFM is entitled Skull Shoutai, then described as the Skull Taitai numerous times in the same section as well as in the Vermilion Team (Vermilion Shoutai) section. Will we ever get a clear answer??! (As usual, it's simply Skull Shoutai in MacF, so no irregularity there, though... IIRC).
  16. It says "Origin: Under Investigation". Cop-out. Yeah, it's Machizaki (they based him on writer Matsuzaki Kenichi). Gubaba did a similar translation when the preview was put online, and I didn't really understand it, but then I never checked the original text. Now the issue is out, I see it reads ゲームに登場した機体, which means "Mecha which appeared in games".
  17. He did say "Since the Macross Replica Kits sold much better than we expected, it may be possible to do a 1/60 Monster Kit in the same fashion... but maybe that's just me". I would not take this as a definite GO on a 1/60 Monster project. (Then again, maybe he planted that last phrase so that people could write in and say "no, me too! I want one!" and then they would consider it...)
  18. Yeah, it's like "Afterthought Overload" over at the Machronicle offices. When did they mention the PS1/SS DYRL game, though? Was it in the Prometheus entry of the Glossary? I think I vaguely remember that...
  19. True Love Song, yeah, I remember that one. Not so much a game, as dating simulator with ages and ages of text before you get to "play" anything. And it's just some strategy simulation thing, like the PC-98 ones. Kind of boring. I think there was a thread in the Games forum, though. EDIT -- 2043? I don't remember that, I thought I saw the SDF1 Macross in there somewhere, and VF-1's. Huh. Well, I ain't going back to check! I played it on the PSP and it crashed the system somehow.
  20. He says he realizes that. Also, he's angry that no-one wrote in his thread since the year began. Lastly, I think he thinks your member status is your handle.
  21. In this global age it is kind of pointless to categorize, though. "Anime" is a truncation of "animeeshon", which is the kana rendition of Animation, so if we go back to the "original" definition, that is, the one which originated in Japan, then the term applies to all animation. Yes, even The Simpsons, and even Disney. "Kaigai anime" is a common phrase used in Japanese to specify "overseas animation", like Disney or whatever. The need to specify of course arises simply because pretty much 95% of all animation available in Japan is Japanese, and American and European works are extremely marginalised. I'm not sure I've ever met anyone in Japan who knows who Fred Flintstone is. English-speaking countries have kind of shot themselves in the foot by limiting the boundaries of the range in definition for this word. I often avoid it altogether, and say "Japanese animation" instead, actually. I think it's safe to argue that that is something we can never call Shadow Chronicles. Edit - Nice avatar, btw!
  22. I never said I was surprised, maybe you confused me with someone else. But since you asked... Here's how I see it. Avatar is not "technology vs. nature", rather, it's "humans vs. indigenous aliens". Terminator was all about humanity championing their cause against the cold, restless killing machines. Avatar is all about humans having become those cold and restless killing machines, and how we have to USE technology to rid ourselves of this humanity. That's the whole idea behind the avatars in the first place. I'd say Cameron did a total 180 right there. Ironically, I would even go as far as suggesting that, as far as implicit messages are concerned, Terminator Salvation is a much more traditionally Cameron-like movie in that respect -- basically, humans have hearts but machines do not. After having seen Avatar, I really do wonder what kind of movie we would get if hell froze over and fans actually got their wish of Cameron returning to the director's chair for a new Terminator sequel. To be clear, I do not have much of a problem if Cameron wants to preach: it's his movie, whatever. I only said I "hated" the movie because I felt ripped off with the paint-by-numbers simplistic, seen-it-all-before story, and the ticket price, since the 3D showings are much more expensive than standard movies. And the only thing that really seemed to come out at me were the bloody subtitles, anyway. But, whatever, it's not the end of the world. There's still always True Lies. A million apologies, but I do want one final stab: He "wrote" it?? The only original thing in that script was the word "Unobtanium" and that's nothing to be proud of! Thank you, I'm really sorry, that's it.
  23. I hated the film but I've loved all of his other films... Well, except Titanic.
  24. Really, James? This is the kind of crap from Cameron I was complaining about earlier. How highly he thinks of the people who spent every waking hour in front of a computer to perfect every last eyelash on the blue cat people so he can "make" "his" "masterpiece". Sigh...
