  1. If you could still play PS1/2 games on the PS3 I might consider buying one, but so far there is really nothing apart from this game that I can see justifying a new console purchase. If and when DYRL comes out on BluRay then I might consider it.
  2. Tomorrow?? I thought they were not being released until late August! EDIT -- Sorry, I'm being stupid. I got confused with the VF-19kai soundbooster.
  3. Apparently it's a movie, and it's being released on Youtube at the end of this week. I'm guessing any attempts to got this out on cinemas fell through or was logistically impossible. I was just having a conversation about this yesterday with a journalist friend; it seems that the really interesting movies get only small, limited releases. The big movies all have to have huge backing from TV stations and such, so Japan's biggest summer flick this year will probably just be "Odoru Daisousen 3" (based on a popular TV show) which Fuji TV has been advertising for literally MONTHS now, even before it began shooting IIRC. Meanwhile, I was told Madhouse's new movie "Redline" (http://red-line.jp/index.html) might only be released in about 20 cinemas nationwide. This has been in production for seven years and the media has ignored it completely. I blame moviegoers who have no interest in watching something new.
  4. SPAIN!!! In the eleventh minute of the second half of extra time. I'm glad I was up at 5am for this. They played really well, took plenty of shots and the whole run up to the winning goal was quite elegant. Meanwhile, the Dutch kept getting angry, and I think somebody even got a yellow card for shouting at the referee after that goal. But the biggest winner of the tournament is the octopus.
  5. Really? Sounds odd, because I see Gamlins readily available in the shops here. The other versions are much rarer, I would say.
  6. Yay! Today I got one of those cheap tiny USB wireless things that probably don't work! That means that I'm up for some XLinkKai-ing if anyone uses that (or even still plays this bloody game...). I just need to install a bunch of stuff and then I'll be on my way to a paradise of online Macross battle delights. Who wants to help set myself up for extraordinary disappointment? I really hope this thing works.
  7. Thanks to Save for the heads-up on this event, which I will entitle, "The Triumphant Return of Tochiro". Seriously, the guy is nothing if not passionate. Or at least his endurance skills are off the charts, because going to that Ranka concert the other day THE DAY HE GOT OUT OF A WEEK'S STAY IN THE HOSPITAL and today's defiance of the sheer pain in his internal organs just to see a cartoonist warrants some respect, if not applause, for God's sake. I got back home a while ago, took a shower and now I'm relaxing with iced tea. It was quite an adventure today. Later I'm gonna see if I can install that 500 yen USB wireless thing I got, but for now I guess I'll post a little bit here, since I don't believe in "Twitface" or "Booker" or whatever. So, Gubaba, Tochiro and I met up and entered the place at 11am. Mikimoto-sensei hadn't arrived yet. I asked if there would be an autograph session and the lady replied that only people with tickets could get stuff signed. And how would one obtain these elusive, mystical tickets? Why, you would have to splooge around, oh, say 500,000yen on some print. I asked if they did exceptions and yes, I shamelessly played the gaijin card, in particular Tochiro's sacrifice of devoting one third of his life to The Great Japanese Empire all thanks to Mikimoto-sensei. I was told that if there were any tickets left over at the end, we dregs of society may end up with a chance to be thrown a bone. So we took a look at the paintings, which were all really lovely, of course, and then left to insult Robotech for a couple of hours over at the cafe on the first floor. After a spot of impulse Akiba shopping for superfluous junk that we simply must have so we can throw on a shelf and forget about (like Ishtar figures for 200 yen!), Adrian arrived... I think at around 3pm? I'm not sure about the time frame now, so I guess I'll let one of the other guys take over the logging from here. It really sucks that Gubaba had to leave early and couldn't meet Mikimoto, but I'm sure there will be other opportunities. Sorry, dude. EDITED for shameful grammar.
  8. Like this?
  9. Hi, Jerry, welcome back! Glad to see your interest has revived. There are still quite a few of us old folk left. That online shop you had was absolutely incredible, between you and Valkyrie Exchange the Macross-shopping online world was really thriving. Of course now there are big-hitters like HLJ which have their own warehouses and everything. Still, there's something to be said about the close-knit MW community of the early 2000s, even if I was always a continent or two away from California. Now all we need is Rosario Love, Rick the Hunter and Yoshi to come back and old-school MW shenanigans can begin anew! EDIT -- For relevance's sake: If I had to choose, I prefer the 1/48 over the new 1/60. The 1/60 fixed the problems of the 1/48, and added new ones that were not there before, so it's pick yer poison. In terms of accuracy, do you like long crotches or long necks? I'm one of those who cannot stand the position of the head on the 1/60, it is WRONG. I only got two 1/60s: the VF-1D and the VE-1, and that's just because they never made 1/48s of them.
  10. I got my Yamato 1/60 YF-19 last year second hand, for about 7000 yen. As much as I like the YF-19 design, I too always kept putting it off because of the price. To be honest, I would not have paid a penny more than I did because it is not that great a toy. I am glad I got it, but it is really just a floppy figure, not very poseable at all, and I had to get so many replacement parts for it that almost half of the toy is new. I might be interested in the Hi-Metal version. If I recall correctly, it was not explicitly stated, rather just implied that they would bring one out eventually. So, perhaps after the YF-21. But yeah, who knows when that will be. I still want to see a transformable YF-19 that looks good in all modes. PS, I am watching Macross Plus right now, it kicks ass. Also, when I was the head of the Japanese Society at my university in Scotland in 1999, I did exactly what you described: I booked a lecture theatre and held screenings of both DYRL and Macross Plus and it got a pretty good reception. I still have the posters somewhere. *Edited for clarity
  11. Yay, this thread is back! So, which ones in particular were you thinking of? Aside from all those Konami ports, the Hudson "Star Soldier" ones were re-released in a special "PC Engine Collection" pack a couple of years back for the PSP. They also re-released the PC Engine Super CD game (or was it Arcade CD or something?) "Sapphire" as part of the "Galaxy Fraulein" collection along with the Yuna games. As for the classic Compile ones like Aleste and Zanac, you can use emulators....
  12. Amazing. Someone has got to show this to Kawamori. EDIT -- and Miyatake, of course.
  13. Oh, Japan. Can you for once, ONCE, not have a single spelling mistake in your Engrish?? "The tattered souls of mankind ONBOAD"?? Didn't that Yamato movie also have something stupid like "Fragship" something or other? Otherwise, it looks just like a game to me. Come on, people, show you care.
  14. If you mean that kid who steals the then-brand-new Orguss with his father/uncle/granddad, then I think it was credited. I am not aware of him playing another role in the series. And of course we (SHOULD) all know that Sho Hayami was Kei in Orguss. Speaking of Sho Hayami, how many of you spotted him as a master swordsman-type villain in an episode of Samurai Champloo?
  15. Well, mine could never stand balanced properly in that mode. Those who would like a canopy cover/ heatshield, check out this thread: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33120&pid=859967&st=0entry859967
  16. So Isamu, Yan and Guld were in their Valkyries for 20 hours, after which they could still do battle for a further... what, four or five hours on Earth? I doubt that very much... The liner notes from the Macross Plus vol.2 DVD say that the Fold Booster-equipped YF-19 can make a single maximum fold trip of 20 light years.
  17. More bizarre last-second antics from the Ghana vs. Uruguay match. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/highlights/video/video=1266453/index.html So.. how many goalkeepers does Uruguay have?? Bunch of cheaters... Heh. He'll probably taste of bratwurst.
  18. Maradona's Argentina squad was utterly destroyed by Germany 4-0!! I couldn't watch the game but I saw the highlights this morning. Those Germans have got such fine moves. So much so that one of the newscasters likened one of the run-ups to the goal as a waltz, and started humming as they scored! So, we're almost on to the climax! Looks like the octopus really knows what he's talking about. Or rather, "choosing" about. Or something.
  19. Despite the fact that I still believe the colour and some details are more accurate to the anime than on the 1/60, to be honest, I was always a little annoyed with the original 1/72 YF-21 because those shoulder sliders were under so much stress that they both just snapped eventually. After getting replacements from Yamato, they promptly broke, too. The slender die-cast legs were really nice, though, so much so that one of the female Japanese exchange students at my uni was really impressed!
  20. Yeah. I just use a folded-up piece of paper. In fact, you can see it in the photo, it's that yellow thing.
  21. Thanks, I'll bear all that in mind! I read the CDX review. It seems the rectangular holder piece for the fin popped off, rather than a breakage. It also amused me to see a comparison with the old Yamato 1/72 YF-21. Heh, that old thing looks horrible now, but it was my first Yamato!
  22. For those who have the latest issue: what did you think of the Macross Plus comic? I thought it was pretty bad, to be honest, in many ways. On top of the bad art and simplistic narrative, one minor thing which really bugged me more than it probably should have was that the two fighters are now referred to as "Alpha One" and "Alpha Two".
  23. There are small slits in between a couple of the plates under the fighter that I thought were just the right size for the attachment piece of the collapsed gunpod to slot into. It works to an extent. That said, they are not in there firmly at all. They fall off if you shake it too much. You can see that on one side the gun is nearly falling off already because of the angle of the valk. I have a (maybe stupid) question. For those who have the FP set with the 21 and a 22, can the FPs fit onto the 22 in any way? At least the arm pieces? I ask because I think I will buy the Fold Booster set as soon as it's rereleased (which should be soon), except I am not sure if I will have any use for those pieces. I know it's not canon or anything, but that doesn't bother me.
  24. Do you have a DX 25? It's the same. You just have to pull really hard. Here's a photo (which I actually first posted in the VF-22 thread) showing the crotch at an angle, which is what allows the waist joint to move. Note that waist articulation is better on the 25 than on the 27, though (as far as I can tell -- I don't want to get my 25 out to compare).
  25. Haha, yeah. And I think that the octopus is predicting Germany will win the next one against Brazil, too, right? Can I be a little controversial here and say that I feel like England got what they deserved when that second goal against Germany wasn't counted, because I looked at the old footage from 1966 and it seems like the goal that won them the tournament against the Germans wasn't a goal at all! I had never seen that properly, but now that I have, I'm sorry, there was no way that thing went over the line. 2010 marked the end of a karmic circle which can hopefully now mean the real beginning of English football. Not that I care much for the premier league or anything.
