  1. Just came back from watching the movie. I've avoided this thread for days, and I'm glad I did, I managed to enjoy it more than I was expecting. The best part? What else, but:
  2. So you only enjoy the shows where he did ONLY the mecha designs... OK, that leaves what, Cyber Formula? Ulysses 31? Crusher Joe?
  3. I think it would be interesting to watch all of Kawamori's directed works back to back just to see what it says about him as a creator. I think watching just one show is in a way like taking a chapter out of his career without context. That said, I didn't love nor hate Aquarion. But if you watch Kenji no Haru, Arjuna, Macross Zero, Aquarion, then Frontier in that order, I'm sure you'll get more out of them as a whole. I may do just that when I have time. It seems Kawamori is only supervising this new show, though, so this is bound to be different again.
  4. Wow, so much M7 hate. It's been 17 years, guys, get over it already.
  5. As I found painfully discovered the other day, apparently the release date is usually a month after the deadline for the receipt of questionnaires, which is always in one of the back pages. For the second time in a row, I remembered I had to send the damn thing in the DAY AFTER the deadline. Last time I sent it in was about half a year ago, with a pic of Ishtar, but they didn't print it, nor did I win anything (I think it was a Koenig Monster that I put my name down for, but don't remember).
  6. No spaceships?
  7. They do reissue some of them, and I think Vash was quite popular so I can see them going back to do it again. They've re-released Getter Robo and a couple of the Gurren Lagann ones recently. I wish they would do a Glaug, though. Meanwhile, Ironman's looking pretty good: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B004GXC5SM/ref=s9_bbs_gw_d0_ir02?pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=01WG7JK0N94DY0QHQFB9&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463376736&pf_rd_i=489986
  8. You do know that the film actually got made, right?
  9. Got the book today, there's some great stuff in here! I especially like the Macross Frontier "making of" section, where you can see where he added all the detail onto the original CG models, etc. It's done in the same format as the Macross Zero section of the previous book, which was also my most fascinating part of that book. Also, there's a write-up on a dialogue between Tenjin and legendary illustrator Yoshiyuki Takatani, which I haven't sat down to read yet, but it's bound to be really intriguing. I love these books, they make great coffee-table material and show how truly impressive some of the creators working in Japan can be, without the reader requiring any knowledge of cartoons.
  10. LOL. I can see it now: KAWAMORI: "...And that concludes my talk on why robotics will play an invaluable role in our near-future ageing society, as seen from the perspectives of welfare, medicine and care-giving. Are there any questions?" OTAKU: "YES, MR. HORY FROATING HEAD, IN EPISODE 33 OF MACROSS 7, WHAT DOES VEFFIDAS IMPLY WITH THE TAPPING OF THE DRUMSTICKS???! SHE TAPPED THEM EIGHT TIMES WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS SHE USUALLY DOES IT NINE TIMES!!! I BELIEVE SHE WAS TRYING TO DIVULGE THE SECRETS OF THE PROTOCULTURE BUT THEN THAT FLYING MONSTER CAME AND ATTACKED THE JAMMINGBIRDS, WHY OH WHY DID YOU NEVER FOLLOW UP ON THAT AAARRGHHHHH." KAWAMORI: "Indeed... Anyone else?"
  11. Ah, but that assumes that the general Japanese viewing public's tendencies cannot change/be changed. I'm not so sure about that. I hear generally good things about the live-action Yamato movie from both old-school fans and general movie-goers, foreign and Japanese. Anyway, for starters, if Macross was remade for a general audience today the first thing that would go would not be the dogfights and spaceships, but rather the squeaky little girls and boob jokes, so I'm all for it. Overall I agree. Overhyped is the right word. But it would be cool if everyone, young or old, was talking about Macross. My grandmother loves DYRL, for example. I really don't think she will have much to enjoy in Frontier, though.
  12. OK. Now you see my predicament? How can I respond with a "that ship has sailed" comment and not sound like a negative wise-ass again? Darn the injustice.
  13. Why don't you want it to be, just out of curiosity?
  14. I will add that he will be signing books there on the 6th of March, too (and in Akihabara on the 27th of Feb).
  15. What for? I haven't really needed them. This game is definitely too easy. I think I prefer Ultimate Frontier. I've only died like once in MTF, and I haven't yet bought a single item from the shop. I'm on the last level of the Macross Plus campaign, using a YF-19 with 0 tune points. Keith, the Japanese generation of rock-hard gamers has been and gone, out with the days of the PC Engine shooters. I hear it's more about easy games now, like CrazyMartian said.
  16. Here is the scene over at Ikebukuro. Aside from the Namco thing, they apparently also have a big event space thing going on at the observatory in the Sunshine City building. I must say, I hadn't seen a single poster or any sort of promotion at all until today. Sorry to sound like the naysayer, but as much as I would like to say that Macross is big right now, I don't want to give people the wrong impression. This isn't some Ghibli movie bombarding the airwaves with TV spots every five minutes. It's big in Ikebukuro where the streets are lined with banners, then maybe you'll see a poster or two in Akihabara, but I haven't seen anything anywhere else...
  17. Realism?
  18. "Roadshow" is the word they use in Japan when a film is out on general release. I thought you guys already had tickets? And if I know Gubaba, it's Ikebukuro or nuffin', right?
  19. Your first and second paragraph do not really follow logically. In the first, "they" supposedly refers to BigWest and/or Bandai Visual, I assume. In answer to your question, I would say, yes, it is probably considered cost-prohibitive, by the way. But the second paragraph of you "calling BS" on that because "they make money" even on crappy dubs does not follow because "they" (the people making money) in this case are the ones distributing abroad. I agree that Bandai Visual SHOULD put English subs on their releases, thus creating the only official English edition of Macross F in existence. However, for that to actually happen, you need a lot of data analysis and persuasion. EDIT -- Dammit, EXO. Okay, BUY Macross the first!! END OF LINE...
  20. Why do you say that? Yeah, I agree. I wonder if they didn't take it from some Hubble image or something, though...
  21. For anyone who's lost right now, I was telling Mari-ja that he'd have trouble getting overseas signatures for his petition due to the trademark disputes, i.e. petitioning for a show we will never be able to watch legally. He told me Animax broadcasts the Macross series and it has satellite stations outside of Japan, so "I don't think so". Then I told him to look at Wikipedia and the HG thread. Then he told me to not change the subject and that WE MUST KNOW WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE MEGAROAD!!!!11 以上、英語で皆様のために先程のやいとりをまとめました。
http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33067
  23. 元の日本語の文章を投稿してください。全く理解できません。 I think it's better if he sticks to Japanese.
  24. That's because even if the show got made, it would never get licensed outside of Japan. たとえシリーズ制作が決定されたとしても、現在も続いている版権問題によって海外への輸出はまず無理だということがあり、署名参加者は少なかろう・・・
