How many of you guys have not succumbed to the temptation of spoilers and are completely oblivious as to what happens in the movie? I'm one of them. I am glad they didn't take so long to push it to DVD as the first movie. The good news, for me, is that I will be so busy with school and work, it will seem like no time at all before October 20th comes along. Still.... I kinda can't wait!

I thought the same thing! He kinda looks like Gowron.

I hope it turns out well, Hikuro. Every time I watch a Robotech episode, I cringe at the sound editing. Even the sound editing on the English version of Macross Plus kind of irks me.

Sorry, but I've been super-busy with my summer classes and work to update this thread lately. As has been mentioned in the other, older fanfiction thread, I have a fic that I've been working on for a year and a half and haven't really mentioned on this board, since there's rarely any interest in fanfics from its members. Fortunately, there's been a little bit of recent talk about fanfics and since there's some interest brewing about, I'm going to put my work out there for scrutinous eyes to read. I created a fic called "United We Stand" and it's blossomed into a work far larger than I had originally anticipated. When you get started, pay close attention to the disclaimers I put in my author's notes. Namely, the fact that it's my first attempt at a fanfiction and that some of the early chapters will appear slightly disjointed, with various errors and mistakes here and there. Overall, though, the story quickly morphs into a more organized and better-narrarated experience. So, go on and see for yourself! It's still a Work In Progress, but that also means that there's still a lot more content yet to come. Feel free to post your impressions here, or PM me with any thoughts you might have. I might need some input from someone who is very well-versed in the Macross universe. My test reader is not a big fan, and I had to make her watch all of the series before I let her read any of my work. Needless to say, she is not able to point out any technical discrepancies I may write into my story. I've done a pretty good job of keeping things pretty accurate, but I could always use a little input from someone more familiar with the subject matter. Anyway, that's my formal introduction. I hope that you guys enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Oh, and if you decide to read the reviews, do so at your own risk! Some of them are laced with spoilers in my story. Just take my word for it when I say that it's worth a good look. That way, you don't have any reviews revealing events that happen later on in the story.

Yeah, you probably wouldn't know it was him unless you looked it up... or asked about it.

Just to clear up any misconception, Khyron is the Robotech name for Quamzin Kravshera in SDFM. He is the one who attacks Roy's VF inside of the Zentraedi ship while they're trying to escape their captivity. A short appearance, but it was still pretty epic. His Glaug never appeared in DYRL.

All Things Video Games Thread: II

WTF?! I was just talking about Planetside with my brothers a couple of days ago and then THIS pops up? Man, that is too weird... I loved Planetside, but I got into it just as most of my friends were starting to get bored of it. If it's one thing I loved about that game, it's that it was truly a massively-multiplayer WAR game. Some of the node battles were truly epic, raging on for at LEAST an hour before any progress was made. Literally, hundreds of people involved in the same battle. Two, sometimes THREE factions fighting over the same control node. I am really looking forward to seeing what's coming down the pipe with this game. Oh, the war stories... -
Extra points for Inui's meltran wielding a Zentran-sized P-90. Misa is looking more lovely than ever, too!

I enjoyed those as well. Steshin is a regular on FF.net and is obviously a big fan of the Alto-Sheryl pairing. I don't know if he'd do a fair assessment of a Ranka doll, to be honest... His Rules of Engagement is worth a read. It's basically a small collection of anecdotal stories about Alto fumbling around a marriage proposal to Sheryl. It's fairly PG-to-Teen and is worth a little bit of your time. You might get some more laughs out of that one, too.

Since there has been little to no representation of fanfics on this board to date, it seemed like a good idea to go ahead and start a thread to let some of us authors showcase a little bit of our work. Writing serves as a suitable alternative for those of us who don't have drawing or computer rendering skills. So, we choose to show our appreciation for the Macross franchise by creating our own stories, much like the fan art that is such a staple in these forums. I'll go ahead and post some preliminary rules as have been suggested in the "other" thread. These rules are subject to change as we find what works and what doesn't. Just be warned.... 1) For now, let's try to focus on Macross-only fanfics. I cannot stress how important it is to make sure that whatever it is that you're linking is of good quality. 99% of fanfics are simply crap. Please, only link fanfics that are well-written. If you need help with or want an opinion on a fanfic, PM the regulars on this thread. We'll be more than happy to help you out. 2) Do not copy-and-paste your fanfic text into this thread. Please supply a clean link to a clean site. Do not link to overtly-inappropriate fanfics, or your post will be subject to deletion. Mild language is acceptable, but any kind of graphic sexual situations will be deemed unacceptable. Moments of intimacy are very dicey; please use good taste when posting. The threshold for this judgment will be completely subjective. When posting a new link, be sure to include a reasonable content rating, such as "PG", "Teen", or "Mature"... or any phrase you'd like to use of a simlar nature. 3) Feel free to post your comments, compliments, and criticisms regarding the fics linked in this thread. However, please keep them absolutely civil and make sure that you spoiler-tag where appropriate. Also, try to stay on-topic. 4) Do not feel compelled to bump and re-bump on a frequent basis. This thread is in the Fan Works forum and it doesn't get a lot of traffic. Be patient. If your fic is as good as you hope it is, time and word-of-mouth will bring you more responses. 5) Keep all fanfic links exclusive to this thread. I would like to just keep it simple for the time being. If this thread begins to get overcrowded (oh, how nice that would be!), we can start to branch out new threads, but not one moment before. For the time being, these rules should cover the important stuff. If other restrictions need to be enforced, I will amend this post accordingly. Suggestions are more than welcome! Alright, now that the legalese has been taken care of, post away! We all look forward to some entertaining reading material!

heh, FF.net already e-mailed me the notification of your +favorite. I actually fix that several chapters into the story. Just bear with me for awhile, there... As I said, this was my first one, so I was learning as I progressed. You'll notice a gradual marked improvement in my style as the story progresses forward; I'm nowhere near perfect, though. I'll go ahead and put together a new thread tonight and you guys can go ahead and link your fics on it.
-
I think we should just keep it all in one thread for now anyway.

The model I had for a fanfic thread was as SA asked: links to good fanfics and then use the thread to discuss them. I have been asking around because I wanted to know how much interest could be generated from a fanfic thread. The most logical place to start was with other authors of whom I know on this forum. I'm glad a handful of you are actually coming in here to at least offer your two cents on the issue. Would it be prudent to work out some kind of thread regulations like you guys have with the RT vs Macross threads and the such?
-
It's actually pretty funny that you resurrected this thread. I have recently been discussing starting a fanfiction thread here in the fan works forum just for these kinds of discussions. So far, the only people other than myself who I've seen mention that they were working on a fanfic were Starscream and Robelwell. Starscream and I have had a VERY recent, albeit short, discussion about this idea. The problem with these forums is that fanfictions are kind of discouraged... for lack of a better term, anyway. Just as you said, 99% of fanfics are just plain crap and I can understand when people see someone talking about their fanfic and then roll their eyes. There's tons and tons of hand-drawn art, digital art, and 3D modelling going on, but there's nary a peep about written media. Shoot, it'd be nice to have someone actually working on some kind of graphic novel to tell their story. I've been mulling over having my brother do the art for my fanfic, but I'm afraid that he'll just become bored of the project over time (He's notorious for never finishing anything he starts). I find this ironic because we have all kinds of fans who want information on what the next new series is going to be about. Well, that kind of thing is well out of our hands. I think the next-best thing is to, as SA has mentioned, get lost in someone else's "AU" stories. ...and I say "AU" because it's obviously not going to be the next story; doesn't mean that it's not a good story. When I started my fanfic, I had never written anything like this before. Looking back at my earlier work, I see how much I've progressed in my writing skills. For me when I read the beginning of my story, I get a little irked at some of the devices I'd use... especially the part where I experimented in writing in present tense. Then I decided to change to past tense and I kept slipping into present tense from time to time. Lesson learned. I don't do that anymore, but it makes some of my earlier work look kinda crappy. Anyway, if you want to talk things out about starting a new thread, PM me, SA.

That article was pretty much dead-on. Maybe that's why I haven't been spending money on movies and video games for the last few years... -

I almost bought DNF yesterday, but after sitting down and reading some reviews, it sure is getting itself sh**ted all over. Is this some kind of new reviewer hot carl fad? Some of their complaints were just plain stupid... as if they were expecting another Halo or Call of Duty type of game. I can see the complaint in the "having only two guns" thing, but other than that... an Ego meter as health? Very interesting twist on the regenerating health concept that taints so many FPS games these days. I definitely would have preferred the health packs of the days of old, but I think the Ego meter is an interesting idea. I just want to know what you guys think before I make any decisions. 50 bucks is a lot of discretionary spending for me right now, so I want to make sure that it's worth the money. -
Well, I guess I kind of missed the point about what might work as a concurrently-running comic to partner up with MtF in the Macross Ace publication. What I was talking about was writing fanfics. So many stories can be dreamt up and told; from prequels to sequels, and any kind of side stories in between. It's easy to not have to worry about conflicting with established canon, especially when you can create your own completely unique set of characters.
-
It seems easy enough to write a side-story set in the MF timeline. I went ahead and started working on something set after the events of the series. It all just depends on what kinds of ideas you can come up with.
-
I was just talking to my little brother yesterday about whether or not there was any information regarding the next SC2 release. It's strange how these things work out like that. I guess it's only a matter of time before they give us a tenative release date. Would be nice to have it before the end of the year, but knowing Blizzard, we'll see it sometime in 2012... Can't rush perfection
