A 3D version of "Top Gun' is coming in 2012
frothymug replied to rdenham's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I LOVE Top Gun, but I have no interest in seeing this in 3D. Hollywood, please stop taking old movies and repackaging them for us to buy all over again. It's time you assclowns started getting creative again and come up with some new stuff for a change. Thank you. -
Don't be at all discouraged by the lack of responses to your artwork. This forum is not well-traveled by the rest of the lurkers. As far as your art goes, I really like the poses you've drawn and all three really do encapsulate the required "look", that of a bitchin' robot that neatly transforms into a sharp-looking fighter; not the other way around. I should probably start to do drawings like this soon. It definitely will help me along with my development as an engineering student.

Animated cartoon "Macross 30" TV production hope!
frothymug replied to Mari-ja's topic in Movies and TV Series
I really don't recommend watching M7, personally. However, it has its moments. Just be prepared to have your view of Macross skewed a little bit. If you liked the other series, go ahead and watch M7 for the enrichment. I didn't like it because I felt like it was too much like the "Power Rangers" and your typical bad 80's Saturday morning cartoons; take it with a grain of salt. I did like some of the music, though. Totsugeki Love Heart, Submarine Street, Planet Dance, and Holy Lonely Night are my favorite tracks from that series. Yoshiki Fukuyama has a powerful singing voice, while I think Chie Kajiura is too soft to complement him. -
This intrigues me. Any pics for posting?

Goddamn, dude. This is some good stuff. I'm gonna post some thoughts on this probably tomorrow.

Good catch!

Oh, no...! I'm not giving away some of my ideas for a future story!

The Macross Plus story was originally written as a movie, but someone in charge of the process made the decision to adapt it into an OVA. Several scenes were added and deleted and the story was reworked to fit it into the OVA structure. I don't know. I kind of prefer the OVA to the movie, but perhaps that's because I first saw it in its OVA form. Bah, it looks like we're getting slightly off-topic from MII, but I'm sure nobody really cares.

Because Feff was in love with Ishtar and probably would have ripped off Hibiki's head if he had a problem with it. Even though it's in English, I love his line, "No one will know of my failure; that I dared to love above my station."

I completely forgot to come back here and give my thoughts on your fic. I thought you did fairly well, given the lack of reference material for the time period after SDF:M and DYRL end. The good news about that is that you have all kinds of free range to do whatever you want with your story! I do kind of feel the same way about your opinion on how they kind of got the shaft, since we know that they've disappeared only a couple of years after leaving Earth. I've thrown around the idea of writing a story that, in some way, explains what happened to them, but I get the feeling that it's probably not a good idea to mess around with something like that. We'll see how I feel about that down the road. I was really enjoying The Angel and the Ensign, until DarthTabby just stopped posting. I e-mailed him to see if he was just having real life stuff getting in the way and he never responded He had a lot of potential with his story and as a writer. And yes, guilty as charged. That's my fanfic. I was doing some writing last night, but I'm not sure if I will get around to posting anything new this weekend. I had a lot to take care of and I still have a bunch of homework to finish before Tuesday. Plus, my new roommate is moving in today. We'll see how things go, though. If not this weekend, I'm sure I will be posting a new chapter next weekend.

He's brilliant because he's Bryan Cranston, also known as Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. He's also the main character of Breaking Bad (I haven't watched much of the show and can't remember the character's name), a role which he's sooo good at, he's won several awards. From what I've seen of that show, he's an absolute badass. If I remember correctly, that's Dan Woren, the guy who voiced Roy in Robotech. Agreed... he just doesn't fit the role very well. As far as Macross II goes, I also agree that you should watch it with Japanese audio and English subs. The story is fairly entertaining, but definitely not as strong as the best Macross works. It's worth watching. Woot, my 500th post!

WORST Sci-Fi TV series of all time.....
frothymug replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I loved SeaQuest, until Roy Scheider got replaced with Michael Ironside. Once the concept of aliens got introduced, it was all downhill from there. IIRC, the gear was so the dolphin could swim in deep water. "Talking dolphin" problem? I guess you can complain about the "talking gorilla" in Congo, too... Doesn't seem too farfetched, but that's just me.- 279 replies

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
frothymug replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
Oh yeah... that happened in one of the Playstation games, didn't it? I thought it was an allusion to an event in the second movie. My bad. -
I've spent the last few days taking the Macross Zero raws on the server and repackaging them with subtitles as a single file. I just decided to tinker with them as a time-waster and made some progress. I've been considering adjusting the subs, correcting spelling and grammar errors, correcting nomenclature, timing, etc... Is this something that would be a good idea to post on the macrosshare website, or do you just prefer to have the raws available and let people run the subs on their own? Also, would it be a good idea to link to a codec pack that handles matroska files well? WMP and MPC don't really like to run them, unless you have the proper codecs. I downloaded the K-lite codec pack and it works like a charm.

Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
frothymug replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
This ^ They showed Star Trek: Generations yesterday, though... and Bladerunner. They occasionally show something worth watching, but definitely none of their in-house-produced garbage is worth a microsecond of your viewing time. -
Just to keep the thread going, I posted a new chapter tonight. School's been kicking my ass, but I now have a good week of free time before the fall semester starts. SA, if you're still reading, I want to let you know that I posted a "prologue" at the beginning of the story. It's a good chunk of text describing some of the events that happened just before my original beginning. Anyone have any updates on their projects? Anyone run across any good fanfics?

Are the gunpods supposed to be visible on that lineart?

Interesting that you bring this up because I had my brother sketch out a variable Supermarine Spitfire about a week ago. I wanted to see how it looked for a possible story in the future... We may work on that design some more this weekend. The problem is you'll have to deal with the single tail. It's difficult to turn those kinds of designs into battroids with legs, but it's been done before. You just have to be kinda creative. I may go for the design concept used in the YF-21, where the engine stays on the back and the legs are not the engine nacelles.

Shoji Kawamori "created" Macross: load of bull?
frothymug replied to danth's topic in Movies and TV Series
I loooove the firing sequences in both MacF episode 18 and the first movie. I especially loved the sequence in the movie because you could actually see Battle 25's engines burst a split second before the buster cannon fired. I LOVE that kind of attention to detail, which is why I love this series so much. -
Thanks a bunch!

Slightly related, can someone repost the picture of that fan-made VF? I searched all over for it and I can't find it.
