All Things Video Games Thread: II
frothymug replied to Wanzerfan's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
After reading the last day's worth of posts, I was about to mention that Die Hard arcade game, but someone beat me to it I recently picked up Revenge of the Titans and Bastion from Steam during their ridiculous prices sale... got the former for $2.49 and the latter for $5.09. I've played Revenge quite a bit and it's a lot of fun, but the later parts of the game can get downright frustrating. This is probably due to the fact that I suck at RTS games... Revenge is a combination tower-defense/RTS game and it's super-lightweight with plenty of content to keep you busy. The AI is very well-programmed. Some monsters are entirely predictable, but then some of them are smart as hell and will test your defenses for weaknesses and then exploit them, much to your chagrin. I just got Bastion last night, so I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I hear it's quite the bomb, though. -
IIRC, she was 15 in the series.

My little brother has been feeling some frustration in using pen and marker. I need to get him this picture so maybe he'll be encouraged by it. Great work!

To help with the process of elimination, Sheryl mentioned that there are no Zentraedi on the Galaxy fleet. She mentioned that she'd only met Zentraedi on her tours to other fleets and they were only in their miclone form then, too. Her visit to Frontier was the first time she'd seen them in their natural form.

After much ado, Chapter 50 of my "United We Stand" is finally up. Much thanks to Chillyche for his valuable writing input! I've also been helping a fellow author work on his story, F2: Wings of the Fairy. He's got some talent as a storyteller, so I'd recommend you guys give his story a look. Other than that, this thread has been very quiet. I'm curious to know what everyone's been up to lately.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
frothymug replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I watched bits and pieces of Soul Eater with my brother a few months ago. It was pretty good, but the ending was a little soft. Everything else went well, though. I loved Kid because of his OCD tendencies. His obsession with symmetry is not that hard for me to empathize with. -

When looking for this PS3, I noticed the two Gamecubes, NES, SNES, and N64 neatly stacked in the corner of the room. -
Quiet, you fool! Movie producers are listening! They're looking for more 80's nostalgia to destroy by turning them into live-action movies and you're giving them ideas!

You're always looking for excuses to show off your A/V equipment and other related accessories. I think we all can tell you have a love affair with your electronics... especially Pioneer equipment. -
I think it's Nanase. Notice the male wearing the green suit standing next to the aforementioned figure...

Can you just put a blur block over the Japanese text so it makes it harder to tell that it was behind it?

I'd heard of Robotech, but never actually saw it when it was on TV. My first exposure to Macross was Macross Plus, when the Action Channel would have their Saturday Night Anime feature and showed it on there a couple of times. I really enjoyed it and also Macross II when it was shown on there, as well. I didn't really think much of it at the time, but my brothers and I then bought Robotech: Battlecry for the Gamecube and I remember remarking how much it was like Macross II and Plus, how you could transform and shoot down the missiles. At that point, I knew they were somewhat related, but didn't know the extent of their relation. My brothers later bought a Toynami Ben Dixon VF-1A, which I didn't think much of then, either. Fast forward to a couple of years ago and my brother started asking about Robotech. I tried to explain with what little I knew about it, but I was not very good at it. I told him about Macross Plus and how awesome it was and he later bought the Manga DVD of Volume 1 (eps 1 and 2) for my birthday. It reminded me of when I'd seen it on the Action Channel. Several weeks later, I watched the DVD again and looked up the other two episodes on the internet. After watching it, I had to find out what the hell Robotech was all about. I ended up watching all 36 episodes in a few days (I had just lost my job about that time) and then read some Wikipedia articles. Feeling like I'd watched the bastardized version of SDFM, I decided to re-watch the whole series with English subs. Then started searching out other Macross series. I found Zero and was immediately hooked... The rest is just history.

Dammit, I haven't updated in awhile and I've been sitting on a completed chapter for weeks. I am trying out something new, so I want to make sure I get it at least reasonably right before I put it up. The semester is coming to an end, so really all that's left is just preparing for finals next week. However, I've been spending my free time in the company of a very interesting lady... Just someone else to indoctrinate with the wonder that is Macross. That way, she'll know exactly why I spend so much time obsessing over this stuff and writing my own fanfiction. I'll see what I can do this week. I have somehomework tonight, but very little to look forward to for the rest of the week.

Yeah, I think you've stepped up the standard a bit on the detail portion of these great lineart submissions.

Oh yeah... there's a couple of instances where Alto uses the head lasers in fighter mode to shoot at bogeys on his six.
-
Ozma gave a Vajra a nice volley of laser fire in Episode 17 after they found out that their weapons weren't working... right before he killed it by impaling it with its own dismembered claw. I love that guy.

First contact with its inhabitants? You mean some indigenous civilization? Everything sounds good. Is this going to stay strictly as some kind of RPG or are you developing this into a story to write?
-
Yeah, I use Klan Klang as well. Doesn't really matter, though. Regardless of which spelling you use, everyone's gonna know what you're talking about.

lol, the movie was nominated for the Academy Awards in special effects. For some ridiculous reason, Titanic won that award, though... SST won best costume at the Academy for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films. Not sure what movie you watched, but... seems that a lot of people disagree wholeheartedly with you.
-
It's because of this writing habit of theirs that I do the same thing in my fanfic. You pretty much never see pilots in the series using any weapons other than a gunpod, missiles, and the occasional head-mounted laser. Now that I'm aware of this, I plan on utilizing more features on the mechs in my story in the future.

I was wondering where you'd disppeared to, but welcome back. As has been discussed already, you just have to see everything as an "interpretation" of an event, as in some kind of movie based on that event. When you watch, for example, Band of Brothers, you know that what happens in that show is pretty accurate. You are also sure that a few things were thrown in for drama or excitement, what have you... Just look at the overall picture. We know that the Frontier Fleet fought against the Vajra and had problems in dealing with the Galaxy fleet. Eventually, they overcame their adversaries and settled on the planet that the Vajra had inhabited before them.

Cool. Just wanted to know if anything was coming down the pike. Thanks for the update.

Epic thread bump! Any word on when there's going to be a new section for the two MacF movies? I'm starting to get intrigued by the specs on the YF-29, tornado pack, and the super pack on the VF-27.
