Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
Archer replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I too saw it, and I also reverberate Mike's sentiments. Bay gave the (at least) the autobots more personality this time, each one got a bit more screen time, etc. But it still felt odd, almost incoherent. I'm actually a fan of the Bayverse (to some extent), but this movie seemed to be somewhat of a let down. First of all, I get the reasons *why*, but Regardless, I went, and I suppose the 3 hour movie gave me my money's worth. Objectively, it seemed like a better movie than RotF, but I seemed to enjoy RotF a LOT more than this one. Maybe it's because don't make for a great primary antagonist against the Autobots.- 950 replies

Anyone have suggestions on a good gaming headset (<$100) that works well on both PS4 and PC (audio and chat). Doesn't have to be 7.1 surround or anything, just has to work.- 6831 replies

Gundam Build Fighters/Build Fighters Try
Archer replied to VF-15 Banshee's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yep, IIRC, Dragon gundam used tons of beam "flags" that also acted as pseudo javelins. I don't think it ever uses a beam saber. Glad they're bringing G gundam into the mix, some of my favorite designs cine from that show (and I'd love to see them animated in HD out of pure nostalgia)- 971 replies

I LOVED WfC and FoC, but I'm hesitant to pick up Dark Spark. Mike, you and a lot of others on the steam community forums aren't giving me very good vibes about this game. I liked the High Moon games, but I don't think it's worth the 50 bucks right now. Might just hold off and pick it up later down the road, maybe a year or two from now on a steam sale.- 6831 replies

Do we even have video game arcades anymore? I too was born in the 90s ('94), and don't remember ever even seeing any (at least, in the U.S.)- 6831 replies

The computer and electronics super geek thread
Archer replied to azrael's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm no computer expert (as shown in this thread), but from what I know about graphics cards, I'd suggest either dropping down to a 2GB GTX 760 (unless you plan on SLI in the future), or spend that extra bit of cash and get a GTX 770 instead. I feel like a 4GB 760 is a bit of a midway with no real advantages unless you plan on SLI in the future. Or, if you're comfortable with AMD over nVidia, you could look into options like the r9 280x, which is the same price ($300), but offers performance on par or better than a GTX 770. Just my $0.02 -

Thanks for the help guys. I've slowly started to install updates ordered from past to present (by date). I do about 10 or so at a time. In other news, EVGA GTX 780 SC is a beast of a card. So many FPS, never experienced gaming like this before. -

Sorry for the double post, but I finally got my system running again. Had to format the hard drive (not a big deal, since this is a new system), and then I reinstalled windows 7 with service pack 1 via install disk. Everything is working really well now, and I installed all the necessary drivers as well. For some reason, system seems to be running even a bit quicker now as well (could just be placebo). Good thing I blasted that old windows install into the next dimension, was really upsetting me I still have like 90 windows updates to do, but I might hold off on those until later. Maybe I'll just wait till service pack 2 to roll around, and give me all the relevant stuff. -

Yeah, I'm leaning towards reinstalling, since I barely have anything on it. I did get a windows disc, so that's good. I'm just worried that even if I reinstall, I'm gonna get the same update errors. As added info, I don't have any antivirus on it, and the only program besides steam that I installed was the steelseries software for use with my mouse. Might have to call digital storm later today if things don't improve. Gah, I just wish they took care off this stuff at the factory -

Gonna need some help. I received my new desktop yesterday, and quickly jumped in and installed steam, etc. It was then that I noticed that I had 140 windows updates to be done. I let automatic Windows update take care of it, and install upon restart. It was at this point that windows gave me an install error, and told me it was "reverting to before changes". After 30 minutes at this page, I was finally given the desktop, at which point I tried to manually install the updates (again, all 140). Now, upon restart, the title screen blue screens at "configuring Windows updates 32%", and I crash out, and the system automatically restarts. Safe mode crashes in a similar fashion. I don't think it's a hardware issue as the computer was running fine before these stupid updates. I'm not familiar with Windows as I'm a Mac user. Any help/ideas on this issue? -

Heads up to those who haven't heard about it yet: apparently the e3 2012 Watch_Dogs graphics files (the graphics that originally wowed a lot of us) are actually present in the PC download, but disabled. A mod is currently circulating that enables these graphics, and brings performance boosts as well. That said, I believe the site to download this mod is currently down due to traffic. Don't know the rules about posting links to mods, so I'll refrain, but feel free to Google it. Edit: I suppose the big question here is why these graphics were disabled in the first place. My guess would be to make sure the PS4, and even more so, the xbone don't look particularly worse than PC as "next-gen" platforms- 6831 replies

Just got my first mechanical keyboard (CM Storm Quickfire Stealth, with Cherry MX Reds). WOW! I wish I had moved to mechanical years ago, it's just such an amazing experience typing. I'm just looking for excuses to type stuff up now, it's so wonderful -
So much bending epicness! Love the animation quality as well. Apparently all book 3 episodes leaked in Mexico a few days ago (at least, I heard about something like that online), so I suppose it can't be too long. Did anyone else notice the ridiculous amount of air benders (even some wearing typical "earth-bender" green) present throughout that trailer?

Arkham Knight looks great, but I think Rocksteady might have gone a wee bit overboard with the Batmobile (i.e. Tank-grade anti-everything armament). That being said, I don't know enough about the story yet to make any calls about Bat's justifications for this. I know that Oracle specified "unmanned tanks" in the promo, so we'll see. And I know some were upset about this, but I'm liking his batsuit's technological evolution into basically the "IronBat".- 6831 replies

Excited for Call of Duty (furthest deviation from the norm in a while), the Division (although all Ubisoft games seem to be super over-hyped these days, and end up falling flat), Rainbow 6 (big fan of the Rainbow games), Evolve, and AC: Unity (if anything, for the story based co-op alone). Witcher 3 seems AWESOME. I'm a big witcher fan, and it's great to see that the rest of the gaming community has begun to really appreciate it, as well as CD Projekt Red. Not really enthralled by BF: Hardline, since it seems like someone took BF4, and pasted a cops and robbers overlay on it. I was a big fan of the first Tomb Raider reboot, but I may be biased since I got it for 7 bucks. Hopefully, this new one will go beyond the first, making it worth the 60 bucks. Far Cry 4 seems cool, but I feel like Ubisoft is jumping on the bandwagon with how successful Vaas, as a character, ended up being. That being said, I'm Indian, and the setting is way too close to home for me to skip The things I was most looking forward to, Battlefront and Mass Effect 4, ended simply confirming that the game was being made......which we already knew KH3 and FFXV would have been great, but Square (of course) has already confirmed that they won't show up, which is a little disappointing to say the least. Ultimately, I feel like E3 (at least today's shows) fell a bit flat this year compared to previous years. Just felt like a lot of "coming 2015/6/7", which is too far away for me to REALLY get excited right now.- 6831 replies

I literally bought a wii U for Zelda U. My Wii saw literally zero play time after I purchased a PS3, but it was worth the $250 for Twilight Princess alone. I was in middle school at the time the wii came out, and never before had I been that engrossed in a video game. Just, the world, the story, and gameplay. Something about it was just so engrossing. The only Zelda I had played before that was wind waker, and the darker, more adult Twilight Princess just appealed so much more. This might be why I didn't enjoy skyward sword as much, since it returned to that "contrasty happy-go-lucky" Hyrule. If Zelda U looks anything like that promo they were playing during the Wii U's initial launch, it will have been worth it for that alone.- 6831 replies

I have a wii u, but every mario kart I've played in the past has been a strictly "party" or "get together" game. Does MK8 have an interesting and/or worthwhile single player mode? I don't want to get it just for it to end up collecting dust till friends come over.- 6831 replies

When you guys connect your Desktop to your monitor, do you use DVI or HDMI? I want to go with HDMI since it seems more hassle free (plug and play, with audio), but I'll stick with DVI if there's some inherent advantage (I believe both are digital signals right?) Also, the HDMI/DVI out on the GPU overrides the video out ports on the motherboard right? -

When a 780 ti staggers on ultra settings on a game that doesn't look nearly as good as other titles (Witcher 2, Crysis, Metro LL), it's clearly an issue on the code end of things, and (hopefully) not a hardware performance deficiency. Still, I'd feel the pain if I spent 800 dollars an a GPU and couldn't keep things running 60 fps at ultra.- 6831 replies
