You need to add the word "combat" to your link the D-21 was an earlier supersonic unmanned drone, but it didn't do combat.

the hardpoints are visually identical [or very near]. so you just mount it to the hardpoint like a Yamato or HMR: gently push-on to the hardpoint and twist for alignment... unless I'm doing it wrong.

The gun on the F-14 tomcat is mounted angled up several degrees. It's VERY beneficial in a dogfight, and lets you get a lot of range out of the canon on a strafing run. The mounting point for the gunpod being slightly flexible makes a lot of sense, and is backed up in the DYRL opening dogfight, when Hikaru scores an off-bore gun kill on a battlepod.
