the ones that come with the DX valks. I TOTALLY disagree. They are thick, chunky and not really aesthetically pleasing PLUS they are basicaly non adjustable. The only thing good about them is that they are somewhat stable. I always think stand for things that are supposed to fly SHOULD BE CLEAR. It totally kills the illusion of flight when you have a blark armature sticking into the underside of the fighter or up the butt of the battroid. big black thick glossy stands are a big FAIL for me. They only look somewhat ok if it resembles a launch arm or something like that (granted the stand that came with the cf-171 do kind of have that look but...not really. I like that this yamato stand actually has a somewhat clear (if a bit frost) arm that holds the valk. i also like that you can adjust the angle of the arm and the rotational movement near the attachment point. it looks TONS better than an eyesore bandai stand, although....that base is kind of not aesthtically pleasing and not optimally shaped for balance. i do like that it is large so it has some heft for balance.

so summary....no difference except waterslide decals ( i don't care, it comes with enough tampo for me usually...do we have confirmation if the official pics is out of box or with decals?) and the stand. this begs to question....will they sell the stand individually? my guess is not because the stand would be the basically the only reason for me to get one. while my dyrl vf-1s is less than minty (loose but not cracked shoulder hinge although with option parts installed thats not really an issue as they won't flop about) i'm not sure i NEED another yet. i do lik ethe rotating feature on the top of the stand. it does seem to use the same adapter location as the old yamatos (requiriing in battroid mode that the wings be spread which is a bit annoying). decisions decisions.

wow step away from MW for a week and i missed the good news. this thing looks awesome. bandai clearly tring to steal teh yf-19's thunder though. i'm getting both. haha
-
they will twist at the rotating joint and send a v2 super vf-1s to the ground. IMO tape or glue the stand in one position at that joint or suffer the consequences.

thanks for the info. I might have to get myself one of two of those sometime...not 5 though! you are crazy i tell ya! haha.

best advice...check out anymoon.com for reviews of the toys. the most iconic valkyrie has to be the VF-1S with super/strike pack. It's Roy Focker's ride (and later Hikaru's) and he is basically a hero/martyr in the original series and the DYRL movie. I would say a close second would be Hikaru's original VF-1J as it spins across the end of the opening credits. Luckily the version 2 Yamato VF-1 line of toys is excellent. They were released starting in 2008/9 or so. again look to anymoon.com for reviews. They are quite playable....just don't ham fist them and you'll be fine. The only part that is even a little bit delicate is the shouler plate transformation but even that is quite robust with the newer releases. also, they hold poses great and gernally don't get loose unless you fiddle alot. There aren't a lot of rathettign joints but thankfuly the balance and weight of the thing don't require it. if you like the newer stuff ...look for a VF-25 renewal from bandai. i think besides the vf-1, the vf-25 is most popular due to the recent popularity (2008-2011 tv sries and show) of macross frontier. mac 7, mac plus, and mac 0 stuff tends to be "harder core" collector oriented as they weren't nearly as popular as sdfm/dyrl or frontier.

how about a mlk some VF-1 redecos....i think you can never have too many vf-1's. make them cool, not like that 30th anniversary thing. V2 of the SV-51? VF-0 reactive armor? i know lots of people want a whoole new vf-0...i'd not be against that i suppose. a 1/60 glaug toy (not resin kit). a 1//60 regult a TV version Q-Rau the V2 YF-19 is already under development so I'm not listing that.

ugh slept on this topic for a little while (and mw in general). oh well...not a hero valk so hopefully there will be a plentiful supply later (as with teh vf-171 CF)

looks great with that simple scheme. am i wrong or does the screen capture pic not have a head stripe? Did you decide to add that yourself to match hikaru's 1J? oh and i agree....if arcadia made that, i'd buy it! apparently they have the M+ license! woot!

So this is an all new version?! heck yes! maybe i'll finally get a yf-19. i almost bought the bird of prey version a couple years back but wanted the real deco from macross plus but everyone kept saying tht it wasn't that good....now? i'm gonna FINALLY (well in 2014) have a VF-19. This may lead me to hunt down a YF-21 also. I never bothered with the VF-22's on clearance because they have no nostalgia factors for me and i only like the fighter mode. finally my 1/60 yamato vf-11b will have some company!! here is to hoping they realize that pricing the thing way too high and having everyone wait til clearance to buy the vf-17/19's from M7 was a mistake as far as pricing goes. Hoping (dreaming?) for under $200 USD....whatever that will equal in yen (which thankfully is falling ALOT compared to the dollar recently and hopefully it will continue to do so as that actually helps japan's economy and ours). this news also makes me happy because arcadia is INVESTING in macross.....not just recycling old molds from yamato. lets hope they do all the ones that need attention (arguably anyway). leave the vf-1 line alone because i'm way way too vested in the V2's to start collecting those all over again. lol.

Do any of the known customizers here accept them? or know of a good source to find them? I am mostly looking at simple not too ambitious stuff, repaints etc.
-
funny thing is that some of my old 25+ year old toys do almost look like new. No special care was given to those since I was a little kid back then.
-
i wonder if cheap ikea particle board cabinets are better or worse lol. don't have any yamato valks in those but have a some TFs (none of them white though) in one of those....

preordered both sets! i'm glad i am getting a luca this time! that super pack set is awesome. drones and all! a bit pricey but not bad. I went through NY for both. (~$100 USD for luca's pack and drones and ~$55 for Michaels fast packs). I think my frontier collecting days are coming to an end after these sets and brera's renewal.

hmm, i cannot speak to any V1's BUT I can speak to the following products which are off white or white to start with. (Also for the below, these were all in smoke free environments and also far far away from the kitchen or any other sources of heat/smoke etc. Light in rooms is dark when i'm not present and bright when i am. Artificial light in room sin incandeescent or LED. I did briefly (less than a month have a desk light that was CF but I never used it much on the displays)) All rooms are temperature controlled (even away on vacation I set the temp higher but not excessive...maybe 82 max while i'm on vacation etc). 1:48 DYRL vf-1s focker: Still looks as it did when I first got it around 2006 or so. It actually was displayed out in the open on top of my entertainment center (yeah remember those?) in my living room for almost a year. Since then its been in and out of "storage". I store it in a plastic ziplock back as this was before I started saving boxes etc. (the early days of my collecting). When its out of storage it gets displayed in detolf. 1/60 VF-0s: spent one month in an open display, but after that its been behind detolf glass ever since. Looks th esame as new. 1/60 V2 VF-1 (well over a dozen, closer to two dozen...over half are white or off white): Always in a detolf with the exception of the first 3, a hikarua vf-1j, and a dyrl hikaru ws and a dyrl roy 1s. these saw a few months of an open display. if memory serves perhaps my tv max 1a did as well. Everything else behind detolf glass since. All TV valks are still BRIGHT white. I can't tell if its the same exactly as new but they are still bright white with no yellowing...even the hik 1J and tv max 1a which saw open display time. DYRL valks are still off white. no yellowing. bandai v1 and v1 1/60 dx chogokins: all these have been behind detolf glass since the beginning. some are in storage now (V1 stuff). There ins't any notiecable yellowing at all BUT i don't know if its my imagination or not....but i thin kthe V1 was not as "bright" as i remember it being....its still bright white though. 2002 reissue chunky monkey vf-1s super: saw open display back in 2006 for a month. has been either behind glass or in storage since (plastic ziplock). Its still super white Vintage Jetfire chunky monkey: i've had this since i was a little kid. It used to live inside a bookshelf when new with all my other TF's...the shelf door would swing open and that was the "base" of all my TF's. lol. It was never behind glass. its been out in the open in my childhood bedroom for several years (mid 2000s?). before that it was probably in some box somewher ein the house. amazingly enough after nearly 10 years ouf n the open...there is sill no visible yellowing though perhaps it isn't as bright white as it once was? nothing approaching yellow though. overall...i've been very lucky. honesly....i only worry about the tv valks and the bandai dx chogokins. for me, yamatos seemt do just fine, as do bandais. YMMV.

wow $125.....oh well. i do think Loop's theory is correct. I'm tempted to get more at that price to be honest. I now have a nice mni squadron of 3. If I had more space I'd definitely think I'd troop build more but as is....3 is gonna be it for me.

yup i agree. looks better here than previously....am i takling myself into liking what i've alrady preorderd? not sure . lol
-
its a cycle though. if its not well received HLJ (and other retailers) will order less and less with each not well received toy, up until the point where the retialers would order so little that the volume that would be sold would not justify cost of the production / release. that being said...i just preorderd one on anime export.
-
i am going to preorder this purely to send them a message that macross valks sell. of course i may resell it since i've not quite warmed up to the scheme yet though that may change? i do like how each series is shown there though. i really think they shoul dhave picked a better color scheme though. i am really torn. part of me doesn't believe in buying this JUST to show them macross products are viable business but part of me thinks if this doesn't sell well then we are maybe in a world of hurt for new macross items from arcadia.

okay WTF is a "simple stand"? lol.

What percentage of your Bandai Valks are scratched?
Mechapilot77 replied to Lupin The Third's topic in Toys
while i'm not in a RAGE about it, i am quite disappointed. I always knew they existed because its just the way I am used to looking at things. That being said, they don't bother me all that much as I won't notice them unless i look at them real close up and look for scratches. On the darker VF-171 I notice them a little more easily due to the color, but even then that is inside of a foot. From normal viewing distances the finish on the DX's is actually quite nice, sort of a throwback to shiny glossy toys of yesteryear. Had they gone matte with the plastic finish these scratches would be harder to see i'd guess. to be honest, i' haven't gone back and examined all my DX's for it but I'm quite confident almost all if not all will have them. i think its a systemic issue with the way the toys are assembled and finished on the line (specifically storage of parts on the assembly line and perhaps a wiping operation they may use to remove mold release). I would go so far as to say if you don't see these scraches or swirl marks that you haven't seen the thing close up under the right lighting. if you want to make yourself crazy and see EVERYTHING, use ample fluorescent lighting...all flaws are visible under that lighting usually. i think i've gotten over it. If it bothers me more i'll find a way to fill in those swirls somehow. oh and yes the self loosening joints are the worst part of the DX valks. Thankfully some are able to be tightened with screws or the nail polish/future method.
