In the event that one has no choice but to use CFL's, would using them on floor lamps aka "up-lamps" be better? Such lamps direct the light upwards at the ceiling, which is reflected off the surface of the ceiling and walls to illuminate the room. Indirect UV should be less harmful than direct sources--that's what I think, at least.

*Slowly reaches for panic button...* I keep my collection in a constantly air-conditioned room with "black out" curtains that let though less than 15 percent light. Only incandescent bulbs in the room, too. It's the best I can do for now.

LOL! I'd like a private license plate with that! Damn, I was planning to buy that MG kit, but funds were tight back then. I'll bet stickers like that would fetch a pretty penny on Ebay. EBay's unspoken motto: there's a sucker registered every minute. No sir, it was a sarcastic play on the misspelling of said weapon...that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

The V2 wouldn't happen to be made to the same kind of plastic, would it?

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
GU-11 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Been watching Book of Bantorra on Animax. Good gosh, the names! Hamyuts? Noloty? And this one has to take the prize: Mirepoc. Last Exile: Silver Wings of Fam was okay. -
True. The means seem to outweigh the ends in this case. One thing though: While I can't say about the US or European countries, but as far as Asian countries, anime-related stuff [the popular ones at least] seem to be flying off the shelves. I had to literally search the whole dawn damn city to look for certain figures sometimes. My best best are always online shops like HLJ or AmiAmi--like you said, certain items seem to stagnate in their inventory for years. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if online stores can get a hold of these web exclusives more often, like how HLJ was able to stock up on the Yamato Angle Bird and Hikaru's civilian jet.

Oh...that bad, huh? To be honest, it was the first and only Gundam series I've watched to date, and I was pretty clueless about WTF was happening, no thanks to the shitty local dubbing. All I got out of the whole thing was that this "Aslan" guy used to be buddies with Kira, and somewhere along the way, three chicks named Meer, Lacus and that other one [personally dubbed the third tenor, cause you never can recall past Domingo and Pavarotti] fell in love with the two. Oh, and there was this ship with two canons with mythological names,

Good point. It makes me wonder, though, if the Japanese companies even realize just how much more money they could make outside of Japan. Then again, fricking HG's Macross embargo probably put them off selling internationally. But that's another story for another thread. Damn, that hurts just looking at it. But how the hell does something like that happen? I thought that part was supposed to be metal. Nevermind, Chronocidal's post just explained it.

I've watched Gundam Seed once upon a time, the horribly local-dubbed version on tv [they kept calling Athrun, Aslan, as in the talking lion in Narnia]. The names were kinda weird [Meer?], but nothing that would faze a seasoned anime fan. Didn't notice anything particularly crazy about the names. Care to elaborate?

Yeah, MP3 Soundwave is definitely not child-safe, especially the swappable hands. The "wave bluster" canon could also easily poke an eye out. No, I didn't mistype it; it was spelled exactly that way on the weapon itself. Right up there with "New Edwars."

Oohhhh....purdy planes... And your answer leads to another question: What's Five Star Stories? I googled the term and ended up with hotel reviews. BTW, nice color scheme. I'm a fan of more conservative tones, seeing as these are fighter jets.

No separate armor sets for Ozma and Alto? And web-exclusive Ghosts?! That's gonna suck. Well, at least there's the Michail and Luca fast pack sets. Probably won't be pouring any more cash on the VF-25F, and I might have to get me an armored Ozma set. No interest in the Tornado bundles, though. Personally, I think those laser canon turrets look ridiculous--just my opinion, of course.. BTW, what's a VF-25A Mirage Knight? I searched for it at macross2.net, but they didn't have that model in their archives.
-
And there I was, looking forward to an armored Ozma. What's with this web exclusive BS? Their renewal versions are selling like there's no tomorrow and they release the damn armor set as WEB EXCLUSIVES?! Every collector and their dog is gonna want an armor set for their Valks, so there's absolutely no chance of shelf-warming here. Good thing the VF-25F looks a good bare as it does armored. Really worried about how they might decide to sell Luca's three Ghost units...that is, if the Valk itself isn't going to be a web exclusive. Praying that they'll release Michail's VF-25G in the open market.

According to TFwiki, fans have made that exact suggestion to Hasbro during a Q&A session at a convention. The gist of their rather roundabout answer was that it wasn't a simple matter of gutting the electronics, as there were many parts that were integral to the fig itself. However, they refused to give details on just which parts are integral to the fig. I think what Hasbro's trying to say is: "It just ain't gonna happen, kids."

I thought MP3 Soundwave was supposed to be under the Music Label line? And yeah, I totally agree with you about their choice of data storage. And of all SD card sizes, they had to use the all but defunct mini-SD! But the fact of the matter is, not many of us are actually going to use the damn thing as a music player. You can only store a maximum of 1 pitiful GB on it, and it doesn't even allow for playlists. It's sub-par as a functioning MP3 player, but I bought it for one reason alone: to have a [rather expensive] deluxe-size Soundwave figure to go with my Classics figs.

What do we have to do to get an MP Soundwave? His so-called "Classics" version was just a glorified Encore G1 reissue, while almost all the other G1 characters had updated figures in the Classics/Henkei/Generations line [his WFC version doesn't count, technically, because it's Cybertronian]. Alright, I know a cassette player is yesterday's technology, and kids these days don't even know what it is. But even if they won't do it in the more child-oriented lines, the MP is the perfect line for it. After all, MP's are specifically catered towards the adult collector market, and are supposed to give us updated versions of our favorite G1 toys from the 1980's. That said, Galvatron hasn't seen a decent update in a while, either.

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
GU-11 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Can't say I'd be surprised if other directors turned it down. Remakes are always hard, because you have to homage the original and still bring it up to date. A difficult task for any director. And the expectations get even worse since its the Transformers franchise. I consider myself a moderate TF fan, but certain ones from the Geewunner "regime" are almost never pleased with anything that gets produced, and can turn belligerent sometimes. Even before filming started, some fans organized protests in his formers office, and even broke into his home. Of course, the fact that Bay was quoted calling Transformers "that silly toy movie from the 80's" didn't help matters. Don't know if it was before or after the protests and break-in, though. -
NOT pressing the panic button here, but I just noticed that my EX-gear Alto fig is gray on the parts where it's supposed to be white. Can't tell from the pic in the back of the box if it's supposed to be that way, but a pic from a review forum clearly shows it's white. Small issue, though. Again, it's the white Gundam marker to the rescue. EDIT: Never mind, I saw the same gray fig in a pic in the same review depicting the accessories included with the Valk. The guy must have painted the thing himself. BTW, it was a Japanese review site, so I might have missed a caption mentioning the repaint.

Hell if I know. I just found missing paint on the side of the left intake. My guess is that one of the factory workers scratched it while trying to put on the intake covers. Nothing I can't patch up with a white Gundam marker, though.

The Transformers 3 Thread--A Michael Bay Thread
GU-11 replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Sad, but true. Micheal Bay is what he is--a maker of loud, superficial movies that are watchable only for their explosions and special effects. If anyone has to take the blame for what the Transformers movies became, I'd have to point the finger at Spielberg for getting Bay to do it. That said, I've heard various rumors that other directors turned down the project and Bay was the only one who agreed, but since these rumors came from rabid Bayverse fans in a TF fansite, I'd take that with a salt shaker in hand. And yeah, I also hate it when he randomly slaps a name on TF's who look and act nothing their namesakes. The only time when he actually stayed true to the original characters was in the first movie. While they look very different from their G1 origins, at least Jazz was still a jive-talking hipster, Ironhide was a grizzled veteran weapons specialist, and Ratchet remains in his role as a medic. Wow. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Hong Kong cinema, but this guy sounds just like Tsui Hark, the emperor of hit-and-miss. -
I don't really have a single favorite, but I'd have to say the YF-19 and YF-21 are tied in first place. MacPlus was the first Macross anime I watched as an adult, and as I've said many times, was my reintroduction into the Macross franchise. But nostalgia aside, the MacPlus designs were a huge leap in design style from the VF-1, especially the YF-19. In terms of looks alone, I'd have to go with the VF-22S Gamlin. Sleek and deadly.

Finally got my hands on the VF-25F. I have to say I'm impressed. It's actually exceeded my expectations, with all the extra stuff and beautifully tampo'ed symbols [yeah, not much of a sticker guy.] This being my first ever Chogokin, I can't say I'm becoming a fan of die-cast. I'm absolutely petrified of transforming this thing for fear of chipping the paint [some of which has already chipped around the intakes]. I'll only be displaying it in fighter mode until future reviews point out the various painted parts, so I can reinforced them with a few coats of FFP. That said, the die-cast on the feet are awesome. Makes the fig look ultra-realistic.
