The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread
GU-11 replied to slaginpit's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
She's got a name already? Haven't been keeping up with the news on this fig. Can't seem to find any release date for her, though. 60 USD seems kind of pricy for a fig of that size, but that's to be expected when it comes to 3rd party toys. For what it's worth, Takara's MP car bots are around that same price.- 9240 replies

At least he wasn't fired outright. From what I heard, Zynga's already a sinking ship. Having him onboard would be like shoving a knife through a bullet wound.- 6836 replies

Well, at least you won't have to worry about fumes, using this printer.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann

Question: Why did they bother separating the non-articulated pilot into four parts? Was it to make it easier to paint? I've never painted something so small, so I wouldn't know. -

That's certainly good news! Especially easy mode. Thanks for the tips on dealing with those zombie groups. While I'll definitely take care not to underestimate the human enemies, I've always hated dealing with mindless enemies that try to rush/swarm you.- 6836 replies

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
GU-11 replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for the heads-up! Damn, sounds like a challenge even in normal mode. Suddenly getting second thoughts about buying it. Don't want to end up abandoning the game out of frustration. Please tell me there's an easy mode. Thankfully, I generally don't bother playing harder levels than normal, unless there are unlockables and extra endings. That said, I've beeb consistently underestimating my gaming ability time and time again. I never expected to be able to clear Professional mode in RE4, but after a bit of patience and some tutoring from a playthrough, I actually did it. Somehow I actually did it. Of course, RE4 at professional mode was nothing compared to that f#cking tunnel level in Ace Combat 5 Unsung Heroes. As for the cordyceps thing, it's ironic that in real life, it's actually a very rare expensive item in Chinese medicine.- 6836 replies

Sounds similar to the Tomb Raider reboot. As long as the dificulty isn't frustrating, I'm cool with that. I've been hearing about these super-mutated zombies that can't see, but can hear you from a mile away, and you can only kill them by stealth-killin them from behind. Are those a PITA?- 6836 replies

Wow, I never even knew the YF-19 had its wings swept back in high-speed mode during that scene, and I've probably watched Macross Plus over 50 times through the years! Fold booster's no big loss, but I'd love to see those rocket boosters for the VF-11B Thunderbolt.

The Last of Us was sold out at my usual store yesterday. Damn. Gonna go back and see if I could place and order for it this weekend. I'm personally not a fan of the zombie-shooter genre, but with all that talk about characterization and it being a powerful story, I just had to get a copy.- 6836 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
GU-11 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Me neither. I did, however, laugh at the Akira character lampooning the hell out of Japan's female idol culture, putting on a Kawaii demeanor like a second skin, and then all gruff and mean when discussing her earnings and screen time. The Minoru Shiraishi ending song thing, though, I couldn't stomach. -
Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
GU-11 replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Certainly an improvement. Not sure if it's just the way it's posed all slouched like that, but the toy looks almost "thuggish," like it's about to shake you down for some cash in a dimly lit alley. That said, the hips don't look nearly as bad anymore, probably due to better posing. For the first time ever, I'm actually wondering if I should buy this and give Valk modeling a try. -

Dunno about you but I like how it pokes fun at anime cliches and the otaku lifestyle, as well as Kagami's reaction to it all. -

That's the fighter mode (arguably the prettiest of the 3 modes) shot at a very pleasing angle. I'm not sure if even pro modelers can save the battroid mode. -
I remember that from the first ep of the second season. Pretty sad story, that one.

Thanks for the advice! There's only one spot I can place the machine where it's far enough away from the AC, but the window out be out of reach as well. I'm thinking of using a spray booth fitted with a cut-out piece of Tamiya filter to clean whatever trace amounts of volatiles and recirculate the filtered air back into the room. Would that work? I was thinking that since Tamiya spray booths have the option of recirculating filtered air back into a room, the filters could be used to "scrub" the air around the printer. FYI, I can't smell any of the fumes people keep mentioning when the the machine's working, although those years of smoking in my college days might have decreased my sense of smell.

Ventilation question: I've moved the 3d printer from the living room to my man-cave, due to the fluorescent lights I use in the living room. I don't want the ABS filaments to get too much UV exposure. Thing is, I'm concerned about the fumes the ABS releases when being heated and extruded. While official test reports show no HCN emissions from ABS, some 3d printing forums talk about "sensitive" people having problems while printing stuff in air-conditioned environments. I've got no history of asthma or anything, but I am a little worried about long-term exposure to these fumes. Is it safe to use in an enclosed area?

Incidentally, it was also Macross Plus that started it off for me as a collector. Naturally, I'm super stoked that Arcadia's giving one of my first and favorite Valks an improved toy. I just hope it doesn't empty my wallet in the process.

Bandai 1/72 fully transform able VF-1 plastic kit for Macross 30th Ann
GU-11 replied to Vi-RS's topic in Model kits
Honestly, I really don't see that happening. Bandai, as a large established company, prides itself with the long success of its Gundam line, and probably believes itself to be vastly superior in terms of model kit designing. But whatever their beliefs, company pride is at stake when you go asking another company for designing tips, which they might or might not even share. Just my two cents' worth, though. -

Must have remembered something wrongly along the way. I thought they're only close to hacking it. Sure took them long enough to do so. The PS3's already passing the torch to the next generation of PS, and only now did they manage to do it.- 6836 replies

Thanks for the info! I just did some research last night, and it seems clear filament isn't going to cut it, after all. Just like the guy who installed my Plus 2 said, it does come out foggy, with a whitish color. Yeah, I'm looking to print clear transparent parts like windscreens and headlights for some customizing jobs, but apparently the transparency of 3d printed clear parts just aren't good enough. They'd work as lightsaber blades and gunfire effects, though. They'll also work as tail lights on vehicles and certain sensors, but I wonder if it's worth the trouble ordering and shipping a spool of clear filament when I can get similar results with the traditional "clear color over silver base coat" method. That said, I found an Aussie online shop that ships internationally, and even has a specific page for filaments made for Plus printers. Prices are a little steep when you factor in shipping, but at least it's available. I might buy a 700 gram spool to experiment with, but right now, I've got better uses for my money. Speaking of the 3D Cube, it looks pretty similar to the Plus in terms of design, but a little more streamlined and less-industrial. I wonder how it performs. BTW, apparently you can hack the Cube to accept bulk filaments.

Someone at MS must have had a bad case of stupid to come up with the idea of one OS for three massively different devices. No wonder the Windows 8 UI for laptops and PC's suck. Looks like I'll be sticking to Win7 for a long time to come. And yeah, I'm betting dollars to donut holes that Mattrick's chances of surviving said personal meeting are low. Am I the only one who's reminded of Iron Man 2's Justin Hammer when I see this guy?- 6836 replies

Speaking of which, do you think will they try to make the new YF-19 compatible with the Yamato fold booster? BTW, I'm so stoked right now that I just had to bring out the V2 YF-19 for display again.
