Conversely, that's EXACTLY what I'm hoping for. Now sure if it'll lower the prices significantly enough to be accessible to those of us with other financial commitments (do home theater systems and PS4's count as financial "commitments?"), but it's better than nothing.

Absolutely awesome. LOL, at least will give me something like about my soon-to-be outclassed Yammie YF-19! How did you get the beige colors to match to well?

Raiden Neko? Or Uchuu Seimeitai Sanda-Katsu? Interesting, but the kittens, Lion-O and Cheetara look a little too old--especially that first pic of Lion-O. Maybe if they rewrote the myth and made it so that the Thundercats were an ancient race of gods in Japan...neko-gami? That might actually work.

The way things are, I'll probably have to hope for a possible (but unlikely) "no-frills" release of the Arcadia YF-19. No chance this is getting past customs without getting taxed--HLJ is a pretty popular online shop in my neck of the woods. Unless they're doing this off the record, as their FAQ page explicitly says they won't entertain any requests to ship items as gifts, or anything that's borderline illegal.

I watched Chocolate ages ago. BTW, the movie is also known as Fury and Mangkorn Sau. Damn that girl can kick ass, and you'd never know with that sweet face and small stature.

That's about a thousand buck in local dollars for me. No way I'm buying this online. The shipping cost and taxes will totally put this beyond my budget, unless I cancel most of my pre-orders and buy absolutely nothing starting from today...which is not likely to ever happen. Even if I buy it at a local hobby store, 1000 bucks is really pushing my fig funds to the limit, what with a home theater system and PS4 still on my list.

Got it. If it turns out to to be good for organic shapes, I'll probably switch to Gmax. Thanks!

Basically the same reason as yours. Super-strict parents. They got me Mirage because I did pretty well in an exam. The next time I scored such good results, TF was a distant memory, and M.A.S.K. had become the "in" thing.- 16945 replies

It's getting increasingly hard to resist the Arcadia -19. As long as it doesn't stray any higher than 250-300 USD (270 would be perfect), I'll probably pick one up.

Thanks for the info! Is Gmax good? If it's available for free download, I'd like to try it out. Now I'm quite satisfied with Sketchup with all its free plugins as well as its ability to export files in STL format, but I do find it a little limited when it comes to rendering certain things like anime faces...well, faces in general. Just wondering if another (preferably free) 3D rendering software would more easily render organic shapes. Yeah, ball joints are also more versatile and easier to more when you need to pose them. As for 3DS, frankly, the price is the only thing that's keeping me away from trying it out. I checked out the price at the Autodesk website, and it's WAY out of the price range I'm willing to pay. Thanks for that link! I actually a use more "rudimentary" version of ball joint sockets in that they're just cylinders with the exact circumference as the ball joint itself. They still work quite well, despite not having as wide a contact surface as a traditional type socket. I actually noticed such a socket being used for the arm joints of a FG Gundam model kit I built long ago, and it holds up pretty well even today. It can easily hold up the included sniper rifle without any problems.

Should have kept an eye on the release dates of this year's AAA titles. Not sure if I can spare any more cash from my home theater funds for another game right after buying SC - Blacklist, but damn, GTA V sounds tempting.- 6831 replies

Wow, that looks pretty complex. That said, hinges, while more complex in design, are more reliable and easy to fit and adjust than ball-joints, like you said. BTW, I noticed that the software you're using is 3DS Studio Max. How does it compare to Sketchup? I've only used Sketchup since it's free and relatively user-friendly. My only other option when I started out was Blender, which was no option at all. Two whole days of tinkering, and I couldn't even draw a pyramid.

That's certainly good to know, although it's still not enough to make me spend 160 USD on a TF I was never particularly familiar with. No matter how many times I think about it, Ratbat isn't worth that much. It's like buying a car I don't really like for the comfortable seats.- 16945 replies

This. I was exactly like that back when the destroids were still around. I kept telling myself, "I'll get the Tomahawk after the VF-1D" or, "Just one more Valk to go before I can spare some cash for one of those cool destroids." In the end, I never got around to buying one.

Awesome job, jocastle! the edges of Millia's SUPER pack missile launchers could use a little touching up (where the gray meets the red) but the rest is clean and smooth. The decals were nicely applied, too.

For others, maybe. But since my puny DIY spraybooth can't handle anything stronger than acrylic paint, I'm worried about the paint scratching off during transformation. Sort of off-topic, but I'm asking a relative to who's going overseas to see if she can get a step-down adapter at the local and Hong Kong international airports. With one of those, I can easily order a Japanese spraybooth or compressor from hlj and use it here.- 16945 replies

Frankly, if I had any interest in the fig, the sneaker feet thing just killed it for me. While I'd pay top dollar for a Ratbat CASSETTE COMBO, it never crossed my mind to buy SB just for that one cassetticon.- 16945 replies

Yeah, that's one of the main things that have been holding me up. Another issue--from the vidcaps, the weapons seem to be stored inside the forearm instead of the covers, as the covers seem too flat to fully cover the missiles and cannons. And even then there doesn't seem to be enough room in the forearms for all of them. Anime magic at work again. I initially wanted to make an actual converting weapon, but it doesn't seem possible without sacrificing the proportions of the "closed mode", making it look way too bloated.

Yeah, I have the Plus 2, and it's pretty much identical to the Plus in all aspects, except the auto-calibration hardware upgrade makes it even more user-friendly. In any case, you don't even have to calibrate it more than once after taking it out of the box, unless you move it frequently. Print quality is gorgeous. I printed a test version of a Grimlock head I was working on, and it's about as good and accurate as it gets for a 3d printed item. I see. I can understand why you had to make it a fixed pose figure. The cannons would probably be too heavy for the arms hold up without polycaps.

I remember reading in a blog that said that in a comparison test between Shapeways, the UP Plus and another 3D printer (don't recall which one, could be the Makerbot), the UP Plus produced the best details. IIRC, the subject was an owl, and only the UP was able to include the minor details such as the nostrils.

Not bad. I actually expected Motormaster Diesel to have more kibble than that. LOL, that pic of the gestalt mode hides the flaws of the toy really well! The angling of the right arm as well as the sword itself conveniently covers up the hollow elbows.- 9240 replies
