I'm not familiar with how "built to order" works. Does that mean stores have to order and pay in full for un-manufactured stock upfront? That explains a lot if that's how it is. The owner of the store has always been a little "skittish" when it comes to high-end items (barring HT releases) and probably didn't want to invest that kind of money. That's what I'm hoping for. I have absolutely no interest in the missiles or the stand, and can even forgo the FP's if it means lowering the price to V1 YF-19 levels. With a good enough HLJ discount, I could actually buy this online and not have to worry about paying too much in taxes.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
GU-11 replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Ika Musume. Quite funny. -
I must be one lucky son-of-a-gun, because my local (Asian) hobby store actually sells Valks at cheaper prices than HLJ, when you factor in shipping and import taxes. And no, I'm not gloating...much. It's a good thing Hasbro's policy of simplifying their TF's have resulted in some pretty crappy toys in their main lines--basically saved a ton of money from skipping the whole TF Prime line. If only I wasn't addicted to TT's MP line and just bought a new home theater system, or I'd be able to afford the YF-19 during HLJ's Black Friday sale.
-
Wait, are we talking about the individual collector, as in just your personal situation, or collectors in general? I'm asking because some of the comments here seem to taking a much broader perspective than just their own situation.
-
Coincidentally, that's the EXACT same thing that's been happening where I'm at. While the owner of the hobby store I go to still brought in Arcadia's VF-1 offerings, the YF-19 has been noticeably missing from the list of available pre-orders. On the question of Bandai's DX chogokin renewals, he said it was too hard to find stock. With the exception of the much-hyped diecast line of HT figs, the general pricing of their figs is still considered affordable to me, since Hong Kong is located much closer to Malaysia than the US; plus this particular hobby store has the sole distributorship for HT merchandise. As to the question of whether Macross toys are becoming too expensive for me; the answer is, "yes." Back in the Yamato "era" I could still afford to buy Valks off HLJ and import them if the toys are on discount. But with Arcadia pushing the prices well above the tax-free threshold, I couldn't risk paying an extra 30-40 USD in taxes on top of an already expensive item.

The guy who wrote this seems to have Robotech to Macross badly confused. Max and Millia had the last name Sterling in RT, but in the description, they went by the name Jenius. And what was that I read about a "topless" robot SDF-1 wedding cake? Damn, that description is just awful. Nice cake, though.

To be fair, though, many of the later PS3 games don't require an install--except game utility data, of course. IMO, MGS4 was the worst offender of them all. Sat there for 20 minutes watching Old Snake smoke his damn cigarette.- 6831 replies

Enough with the console exclusives and DLC's already. I wasn't sure if I'd get the game, and now, what with Raiden being 360/Xbone exclusive AND a DLC to boot, I've pretty much made up my mind not to.

I have to say I'm somewhat disappointed, but not in the way some might think. I've got nothing against the reboot, but for an origin story, I'd have preferred it if they wound back the timeline a lot further, recounting her days as a soldier, and the wars she fought in. It'd be more interesting to see a completely new environment other than the same old Newport cityscape setting. I'd also like to see her in action in the battlefield, where there are rules of engagement are totally different from her Sector 9 missions. Just my two cents' worth.

Taken out of context, that title conjured a lot of inaccurate and downright disturbing images. Not sure what to make of it, frankly. I (understandably) never knew such a series existed, and this is already its fifth installment. Might watch it out of curiosity.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014
GU-11 replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Revoltech Bumblebee's not half bad either, since it scales in almost perfectly with the DMK OP kit as well as leader class ROTF OP. I bought one, myself. IMO, even if Takara doesn't want to continue with the DMK kits, they should license it to other companies like Bandai or even Kotobukiya. At the very least, it'll fill in the gap what with Hasbro now having become reluctant to make leader class villains. That leader class "Victoria's Secret" Sentinel toy just doesn't cut it; he might be a turncoat, but he still deserves an accurate model kit. Megatron certainly deserves one. His movieverse leader class toys sucked.- 950 replies

Good point. I hope Takara willing to give the DMK kits a second chance in AoE, despite the odds. I mean, what with the kiddified toys they seem to be making for the movie characters, model kits are pretty much the only things for adult collectors. I wouldn't count on Hasbro to care, but TT does have a big enough adult collector market in Japan for such a line. What with the direction the movie line is going, it's either model kits or nothing. I sure as hell am not buying shell-formers that look like TF cosplayers.- 950 replies

My 3d printer's got an error from a mistake I made, when I tried to use it after a couple of months. Basically, I'd forgotten the proper procedures when it comes to printing. I think the problem started when I clicked on the "print" button on the tool bar instead of 3D Print > Print (as in clicking "3D Print" and then selecting and clicking "Print"). The latter method was how the technician who delivered the printer to me did it, and that's how I've been doing it until the last time. Admittedly, I haven't been printing for a few months and temporarily forgot how. Anyways, the light on the printer started flickering non-stop, and in a panic, I shut it down, and turned it back on. It still printed fine, but from then on, the "printer system error layer 1" thing keeps showing up when I connect the printer. It still prints fine, but that error there kind of worries me. Thing is, why put that big-ass Print button there when you're not supposed to effing click it?! Anyways, I asked for help at the UP! forum and was told to run a diagnostic tool called UP Inspector. Doing that changed the error from :printer system error layer 1" to save data to SD layer one". I've no idea if that's an actual improvement, but at least it sounds less worrisome. I posted an update on the forum, but haven't received a reply yet. I kept reading about people fixing the problem by "reseating" the SD card (aka removing the SD card and reinserting it), but I'm reluctant to try it since it's still under warranty. There's that sticker on the seam that will tell the tech if I actually took it apart. I'll try printing something and see if the problem rectifies itself this time. I pray it does. Or...I could just call the technician and have him fix it. I just don't like having to take a day off and stay at home waiting for the tech to come over.

Not sure if it means anything, but DMK Optimus got a reissue recenctly, so it couldn't have sold too badly. Yeah, most TF collectors swear by the "transforming toys only" thing. I collect them strictly as display items, so I don't give a rat's ass about transform-ability. Frankly, if there should be any exception to the "transforming toys only" rule, it should be the movie characters.- 950 replies

The wish doesn't have to be realistic or even plausible, does it? It's probably never going to happen, but I'm hoping for cheaper Valks all around in the future. Overall, Arcadia's doing a pretty good job. I mean, they did give us what we wanted; a new version of the YF-19 and it's absolutely gorgeous...except for the price.

I thought as much. Well, as long as it keeps the kids happy, I guess. After all, it IS Hasbro's primary market. Ditto. They should have made DOTM Megatron and Shockwave DMK kits, too. Those 2 never got leader class figs (which might not have been such a bad thing, looking at Ironhide), and Shockwave never did transform in the movie anyways. As for AOE, the designs are perfect for DMK kits, as they seem impossible to accurately transform from bot to alt mode.- 950 replies

Why do I keep thinking of crab cakes whenever I look at the new ED? Just a tad over-designed, IMO. That said, if Neca made one the same size of their original ED-209, I'd buy one to place beside it.

I checked Sony's official site, and t turns out you need to already have a PSN account in order to use the SEN account to log in to PSN. I guess I'll have to register myself as Hikaru Ichijo from Megaroad 1. Not to mention that the battle for the best game in the PS3 era isn't exactly over. The PS3's still got at least a year left in it, with Star Wars Battlefront 3 and a PS3-exclusive Persona 4 coming up.- 6831 replies

Not sure if that's a jab at Sony or me, but having nearly been a victim of credit card fraud once (an online store I used to bought stuff from shut down and either sold off my credit card number or the owner used it personally), I've absolutely no confidence in the ability of companies to keep your info safe.- 6831 replies

Question: What's the difference between SEN (Sony Entertainment Network) and PSN (Playstation Network) besides the name? It seems I can log into PSN using an SEN account. Can I just open a SEN account and use that to log into PSN? The SEN account doesn't seem to require any "sensitive information--just your email address. I saw a youtube tutorial and it seems the PSN registration requires your real name and home address--not something I'm comfortable giving if I can help it. Actually, can I leave the home address and real name columns blank? I plan on using pre-paid cards, anyway.- 6831 replies
