Gone...before I could even entertain the thought of picking it up.
-
Finally decided to take off the training wheels. By sheer chance, I stumbled on an art store that sells Sparmax compressors, and got the TC-610: The fact that it doesn't rely on battery power is already a major plus point. And finally, I can try out some new techniques by adjusting the air pressure, and won't have to worry so much about humidity, since it also has a moisture trap. Finally, I can experiment on weathering and detailing! Next up is to get a double action airbrush. The store owner sold a brand of Taiwanese airbrushes called "Fairbro" or something, and while testing a couple of them, I found the air pressure a little hard to control using the trigger. I'm not sure if it was just the caffeine tremors (I'm a coffee addict), but it's hard to adjust the amount of air pressure coming out of it. The trigger felt rather stiff and not too responsive, and it was almost impossible to get a gradual increase in air pressure--the moment I press down on it hard enough to get the trigger button the depress, I usually end up pressing it all the way down. The pull-back motion for the paint is fine, though. Will this be an issue in the future? I've never used a double-action AB, so I've no idea what to get. There was another one that accepts gravity and siphon cups, but what I didn't like about it is that when screwed on tightly, the gravity-feed cup ends up almost upside down, since it's mounted to the side of the airbrush. They aren't cheap either, costing about 120-150 USD a piece. Are these okay, or should I invest in a more expensive Badger or Iwata? I'm pretty handy with my Tamiya basic airbrush (single action), only because it's ridiculously simple to use, and handles like an adjustable spray can. IIRC, my local Tamiya store also sells Badger and Iwata airbrushes, although it's pretty out of the way. Most importantly, are all airbrushes compatible with the Sparmax TC-610 compressor I bought? I tied screwing on my old Tamiya basic airbrush on it, and the hose fit perfectly. The thing is, the Tamiya basic AB continuously shoots air from the nozzle, unlike a double-action airbrush that only shoots air when you press down on the trigger. Any and all advice is much appreciated.

That's true. Now I can't help but notice those lips. In that pic, his face looks less like a humanoid turtle and more like a troll.

I didn't think the look of the turtles were that bad (in my defense, they were just pics of the toys) up until Old Nash posted that link. They didn't look like they had lips on those toys. BTW, I just watched the trailer, and it was kind of..."meh." Strangely, Mikey's lips don't look that bad in the trailer.

Robo Adventures has to be the worst video reviewer out there. Sounds like a drunk hobo with a vulgar sense of humor. Basically just yammers on and on about nothing in particular while the toy goes in circles on that electric turn-table of his.- 9240 replies

My bad. I just dug up some old 80's cartoon pics at Google. Although, they had flatter and broader fingers in the cartoon. The movie snapshot makes them look like there's too much extra "space" on the tips of their palms, like they've got a couple of missing ones. Just my opinion.

I thought they employed something called "active stealth systems" instead of going for radar-deflecting shapes and angles. IIRC, Guld mentally vocalizes the word "stealth" ("sutterusu" to be exact ) and the YF-21 disappeared from the radar of the VF-11B Isamu was piloting. But yeah, I never did see the need for missiles as far as the YF-19 is concerned. I'm all for FAST packs as long as they don't affect the price much.
-
I used to buy stuff from them before they started this crap policy, and they were pretty decent as far as getting things shipped quickly. But I really can't see myself buying something that can't be refunded or replaced in case of a defect.
-
Now that is a thing of beauty. I'd gladly buy this as a second YF-19 if Arcadia keeps the rerelease's price around 200 USD.
-
BTW, what's with the turtles having only a thumb and an index and middle finger? Coupled with the bandages, Mikey looks like an amputee.

That's true. Although it's likely that they just didn't bother to update their FAQs page.
-
I'm hoping more for a "no-frills" version. Just the fig, gun-pod, 1x Isamu pilot fig and FAST packs at 200 USD. Hell, they can even keep the FAST packs if it helps lower the price.
-
Don't count on it. Last I heard, and if memory serves, they no longer provide refunds or replacements, even if the item is defective in the box. One of the reasons I stopped buying them.

Seems less like he/she is "missing" these broken wings and more like simply ignoring them.

One of the main things that's keeping me from putting down the money for such a pretty bird (other than the 300 USD price tag) is that it looks too short next to the YF-21. I'm almost certain Arcadia will be making a V2 YF-21 somewhere down the line, it'll probably just as expensive, if not more so. Truth be told, I'm happy enough with my Yammie YF-19 that I don't feel any pressure to get the V2, a vast improvement though it is. I'm the same way with TF's though. I kept procrastinating on pre-ordering MP Wheeljack, because I'm still pretty satisfied with the Generations toy. And frankly, I'm getting a little exhausted from chasing new versions of something (collectibles in general, not specifically Macross). That said, I'm still holding out for a re-release at a lower price, and maybe with the arm-cannon attachment instead of the missiles (I never display any of my Valks with the missiles anyway). All in all, congrats on your new YF-19's, guys. I'll be sitting this one out until a cheaper re-release pops up in the future, and hopefully on discount at HLJ. BTW, sorry to hear about the broken wings on your brand new YF-19's Kicker and Mommar. You'd think they'd be more attentive in the QC department when dealing with a 300 USD toy. I thought Yamato actually switched to better factories a few years ago. I'd expected Arcadia to use the same factories.

MGR Raiden totally came out of nowhere, so anything's possible with HT. And in if you're interested in classic TMNT, I heard Figma (or was it Kaiyodo?) will be releasing the Turtles in their Nickelodeon incarnations soon.

@ treatment: That Cherno fig looks awesome! I'd just only watched Pacific Rim on DVD. It's strange how before watching the movie, I had absolutely no interest in the Jaeger toys and found them rather bland. But by the time the credits rolled, I yearned for a Striker or Gypsy Danger. No wonder Hasbro was so into making TF movies. Still, I've read quite a few mixed reviews on the NECA toys, and was personally underwhelmed by the ED-209 I got. That said, I heard that NECA's done with "budget" Jaegers, and is now making more high-end versions. Depending on how they turn out, I might at least pick up Striker and Gypsy Danger.

Speaking of stickers, is there any way to prevent or at least minimize the edges from curling in the future?

If there was ever a legitimate case of "d'oh" for me, this would be it. I actually forgot to pay my monthly cable TV fees, and the connection was cut last night, meaning no TWD finale for me.

I could easily 3D print that lunchbox thing for MP Wheeljack if and when I get my hands on the fig. Only thing is, I don't care nearly enough about it.- 16945 replies

Because Bay is in love with the military, and the military doesn't mind the free publicity. Bay's TF movies got full military manpower and logistics support because "he makes them look good in the movies." Many of the soldiers you see in the TF movies were supposedly professional soldiers, not extras. Whether he's truly a military fanboy or just wants the free extras and props is anyone's guess.

Definitely sticking with my Revoltech Raiden. From the looks of it, HT Raiden doesn't seem nearly as pose-able. Head sculpt and detailing, though, is trademark HT gorgeousness.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
GU-11 replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Slightly off-topic, but I finally found the reason for the "crackling noise" in the dialogue in certain PS3 games. Apparently, it's an HDMI software issue that Sony either couldn't, or was too lazy to fix. After browsing several forums and thousands of posts, it seems that Sony's only recommended solution was to switch to digital optical output. But that only led to another set of problems. The PS3 doesn't seem to output full 5.1 surround sound through digital optical. By default, it only processes 2 channel linear PCM, but you can select bitstream (direct or mix) in order to get a nominal semblance of 5.1 surround sound. You'll hear some background music in the rear speakers, but it doesn't do "real time surround", as in hearing an NPC talking through the rear speakers if you turn your character's back to him. And not only that, the damn console had me running in circles trying to set up digital optical output in the first place! For some stupid reason, the moment you switch to digital optical, multi-source is turned off, effectively muting the sound. You have to manually turn it back on. Just putting this here in case someone else has a similar problem.- 6831 replies
