My wallet shudders at the thought of a 1/6th scale Millennium Falcon--which, of course, is pure nonsense since even a 1/6 Bat proved to be unfeasible. Even at 1/12th scale, it'll be way more expensive than The Bat, on account of the size.

Just watched Border 4. Nicely sets up the series for a rebooted series or movie, with a nod to the 90's Oshii movie in the last part. Overall, I still prefer Motoko's origin story from SAC 2nd Gig. Like really liked how the whole second season revolved around her and Kuze. Makes her feel more "real" and helps the series feel less episodic.

Dude, even the show's name was a clear hint--The Novak Element, as opposed to The O'Reilly Factor! Yeah, that part where they made him look into the mirror at his own lungs and heart in a container...that was riveting. Taking Murphy's body to China was probably a playful joke about global manufacturing industries being centered there in the future, as if it isn't already happening--everything's made in China these days! That said, OCP being Chinese sounds quite plausible. The movie definitely made hints of a sequel in mentioning OCP being Omnicorp's parent company, which will become the main antagonist. Despite mixed reviews, the reboot did pretty well in the box office according to Wikipedia, so a sequel is always a possibility. I mean, even The Smurfs got a sequel.

While a good toy objectively speaking, it's just not my cup of tea. Hoping the next announcement will be Mirage. It was my very first G1 TF toy, and I can't wait to see him get the MP treatment.- 16945 replies

I think it's because HT takes so long to get a figure out the gate. While it's perfectly understandable and actually a good thing due to the prices, waiting for up to a year after a movie has already hit theaters before getting the figure, kind of kills your enthusiasm for it.

Just finished playing Watch Dogs for the PS3. Damn those car chases! Evading cops is a nightmare, especially in the Act IV mission, "In Plain Sight." Doing it the usual way won't work, and you have to resort to some clever "sneakery" on either the L-Train tracks or out at sea to outsmart the AI. And how is it that a high-end performance sports car can't outrun a few heavy-ass police SUV's and patrol cars? Even on a freeway with the accelerator floored, the damn cops will managed to keep up. But that's nothing compared to the final mission. Cops chasing Aiden around town while he has to upload 3 separate viruses in 3 different locations in town, and STAY CLOSE to the CTos boxes while it uploads, all the while surrounded by fricking cops! And successfully escaping won't do any good, as the CTOS scans will pop up a few seconds later and find you again. Oh, and the GPS is now corrupted, generating random objective markers with only 3 that are real. But that's easily solved by memorizing the locations before the GPS gets hacked. The best piece of advice I got from a tutorial is to use a boat. It keeps cop cars away and you can easily stop the boat as a helicopter approaches and disable it to make your getaway. It's still an effing difficult mission, as you still have to return to solid ground to upload each virus. But, at least if Aiden dies after uploading a virus, they don't make you do it all over again--you respawn at the point right after the virus was uploaded. All in all, if you managed to complete it, you've earned yourself a pat on the back. I haven't been so pissed off by a final mission since Ace Combat 5. But all that aside, it was a really fun game. Although it was a slow start, I quickly got addicted to the crime detection side missions and gang hideouts. Spent a whole week just on side missions before moving on to the second main story mission.- 6831 replies

Just my 2 cents' worth here, but accessories will probably not be worth the paper the C&D is printed on. Sure, anything you can find in concept art or in the movies (short of fair usage items) is considered copyrighted material, but it really depends on whether the company cares enough to pursue it. Let's take Hasbro and the various accessories and add-ons at Shapeways for its TF franchise. Arguably, if Hasbro wanted to pursue it, even the gun that Optimus uses in a show is considered copyrighted material, but the kind of effort they'd have to spend issuing C&D's to each individual 3d designer is just not worth it. And frankly, it doesn't hurt their profits because they're not complete Transformers, and cannot be used as standalone products without being added to an actual Transformer toy. Back to Macross, if one were to make FAST pack accessories for the 1/48 scale VF-1's, it's probably safe. Yamato's gone under and Arcadia doesn't seem interested in making anything in 1/48th scale. Hard to tell with BW. Except HG, where they'll sue you for painting a peace sign in white and red colors, because it "bears plausible resemblance to the UN Spacy logo."

The only thing I can add to this is, DO NOT use Tamiya acrylics with a paint brush, especially gloss. They're formulated for airbrushing and the second coat will lift the underlying coat, unless you thin it with something containing surfactants like window cleaner. And I'll re-re-confirm crazydude's statement about red. white and yellow being a nightmare to paint--especially glossy finishes. Even with an airbrush (or maybe especially with an airbrush), you have to hit that sweet spot between too thick and too thin, and AB at a distance between too close and too far, in order to get a nice glossy finish. I can't imagine it being any easier with a paint brush.

Voted for the VF-2SS...not that I'm going to pay Yamarcadia prices for it even if it gets made.

Bronies have more of a reason to rejoice than TF fans, as 3P MLP figurines were not allowed to be sold at Shapeways. Now, they can do so at Super Fan Art. Of course, there's still a catch. Your designs have to be approved by Hasbro before you can sell them there. I suspect they just want to make sure your stuff doesn't have any offensive elements in it more than anything else. Lesbian pony porn statues are a no-no, obviously.- 16945 replies

Cool review! LOL, is that the first and last time your kid will ever get to touch that figure? Never played the game before and the fig's a little rich for my blood right now. But judging from the quality of the Fullmetal Ghost I did buy, it should be second to none in terms of detailing and weathering. BTW, the pilot for FM G was also an absolute bitch to get into the cockpit. With Fullmetal Ghost, it's worse, because of the controls getting in the way.- 6831 replies

I sort of have a theory regarding Takara's reluctance to release Skywarp and Thundercracker. MP-11 came with a crown and cape, and they were able to find an excuse for Sunstorm to have the accessories due to his bio. Skywarp and Thundercracker have no reason to sport a cape and crown. Maybe they'll try to find some other accessories to use the plastic quota on.- 16945 replies

Transformers: Age of Extinction - in theaters June 27, 2014

As much as I want to believe that, he's said the same thing before and came back when Paramount threw a sack of cash in his face. Besides, he's said to have recently signed a 3-year contract with Paramount. I can't see Paramount using him for anything other than Transformers.- 950 replies

Thanks! Sounds like I really should give Vallejo paints a try. Hopefully they won't end up being more expensive in the long run. The bottles look like they contain more or less the same amount of paint as a jar of Tamiya acrylic. But since you don't thin them, they won't last nearly as long as Tamiya paints, which can be thinned up to 1-2 parts paint to thinner ratio, especially when you're using lacquer thinner. BTW, just putting this question out there, but does anyone know of a good substitute (Tamiya acrylics or off-the-shelf spray paint) that's close enough to the Kotobukiya Armored Core CR-389E Oracle Ver.'s shade of blue? I thought of just painting over all the blue plastic with a similar blue color, but I don't want to cover up the emblem on it's left shoulder pauldron. So, I need the closest possible blue paint for the unpainted parts that are supposed to be blue but are molded in white plastic.

ED-209 replica from Chronicle collectibles.
GU-11 replied to CAIN MKII's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Frankly, I don't remember the ED-209's "toes" looking that small in the movie. Just a personal opinion, but I think HT's ED looks better in general. -
And that's the one color I didn't buy. Visited the local Tamiya store last week, but all silver metallics have been sold out. Hopefully they'll bring in a new batch soon. That explains why everyone says Alclad paints never clog an AB. But don't you need to clear coat them? I've read that metallizers are generally fragile. BTW, how are Vallejo metallic paints, in terms of durability and realism? HLJ sells them now, so they could make for a good alternative.

Thanks! If I do find a kit at TRU during a Christmas sale, it's bought. That's good to know; if and when I do stumble onto a local store that sells Alclad, I won't end up buying the wrong ones. For non chrome finishes, the usual Tamiya acrylics and Krylon Fusion silver sprays will do the trick.

The whole kit in general is gorgeously done up. But as nice as the metallic finish looks, it's not the mirror-reflection effect I expected from Alclad. BTW, what's the name of that kit? I know I really shouldn't, but I'm tempted to buy that someday. Sometimes I wonder if Hasbro knows we're all doing touch ups on our TF's, and since the kids don't care, they simply give the toys the bare minimum amount of paint apps.

Also known as the "lazy man's airbrush." Definitely beats having to clean up after a paint session. I just bought a couple of those weathering sets, and plan to use them to create a sort of pre-shaded effect on my MG Aile Strike. That's very true. I've heard that Alclad metallizers can be a bit of a chore to AB, and the learning curve's a little steep. The stuff's pretty toxic, too. LOL, I can barely handle basecoating, so Alclad might be a little out of my league as well! Fortunately, there aren't a lot of model kits in my stash that need chrome parts. That's some pretty impressive paint chipping effects on those planes. I initially wanted to try out that elaborate "hairspray" method just for bragging rights, but if I can get results like that with just silver pencils, that's definitely a better, less labor-intensive way to go about it.
