I hate to say it, but somehow, for some reason, that IDW bio totally changed things around for me, too. Star Saber as a religious nut job suddenly makes the fig that much more appealing. Although, still not gonna buy it.- 16945 replies

They'll probably do to the Valks what Bay did to the Transformers and Turtles.

Bandai to release Star Wars Model kits
GU-11 replied to Wiz13688's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Been waiting for a 1/48th scale X-Wing, although I'm not a fan of electronics--at least it's all pre-assembled. Passed on the 1/72 ones because they were on the smallish side. All things considered, the price isn't that bad. Pretty sure they could have lowered the price without the "radio box" and whatnot, though.- 188 replies

@derex: Sweet. I've never painted anything from Shapeways, but whatever effort went into it is worth it because that's a kickass arm weapon!

That is a beautiful thing to behold. -
Not so much a solution as it is a workaround, but at this rate, you might as well just paint up the base of the stand in matte gray or something. From the posts above, it seems like there's very little you can do to save the finishing on the stand. Sorry if this doesn't really help.

Love that pose. One of my all-time favorites too.

Arii? Wow, you did an awesome job on those, especially considering how old those kits are. I built a really old VF-1J Max in battroid mode from Arii, and the fit on the parts was an absolute nightmare. I remember one of the forearms parts was really warped. Aesthetically and articulation-wise, the Max kit is also really showing it's age compared to the Hasegawa kits.

That's very true. Truth be told, I'm always a little apprehensive about taking expensive equipment apart. Took me a full 6 months (and my basic trigger airbrush leaking air when attached to the compressor) for me to finally start using my HP-CS. I know it's stupid, but I was deathly afraid of having to disassemble the thing. Must have read too many horror stories of people breaking stuff at modeler's forums. But once I got disassembled the HP-CS for cleaning the first time, it's not nearly as harrowing an experience as I first thought. The drop-in nozzle really helps, since you don't have to worry about removing that tiny nozzle tip. BTW, how many times should you wrap Teflon tape around the threads? I saw a youtube video made by a professional plumber, and he recommends only wrapping the tape just one turn around the threads. Others say you should at least wrap around the threads about 2-3 times.

Who doesn't love pickles? BTW, what scale are those?

Well, seeing as it's free and you can save the files to your HDD, I suppose it'll work well as a good program for base mesh modeling before exporting to ZBrush for more complex work.

Thanks, Micky! Whoa, that is a gorgeous Valk made perfect by photo-realistic landing gears. The much lighter tint on the canopy looks so much better. Can't wait to see the final results with everything done. I'd love to try doing the same, except I don't yet trust myself around anything with a price tag above 30 USD.

Not exactly a WIP, but here's a test spoon I just did in preparation for a custom TF job. I used a chrome spray from a brand called TOA, let it cure, and then buffed with toothpaste, and finally hand-painted with FFP for a "showroom shine." I'll spray another couple of test spoons to see if I can get consistent results, and move on to the actual model. The pics don't really show it, but the FFP makes it really glossy in person.

Thanks, I try 123d design instead! I remember reading somewhere that the files can't be saved in your hard disk, but can only be uploaded and share online. Is that true? Not exactly a good idea if you plan on designing stuff to sell at Shapeways or something.

Sadly, the free non-cloud version is no longer available for download. The latest version (360) is cloud-based, and monthly charges start at 25 USD. Personally, I'm not about to "rent" a piece of software indefinitely.

Thanks for the heads up! Well, I guess there's nothing a bit of Teflon tape can't tighten up. As for the water trap, yeah, the regulator on my compressor has one built into it. I didn't know they had to get up to a certain pressure before sealing.
-
Many thanks! That's a huge relief.
-
I gladly stand corrected. So...I guess it's safe to say that there's really nothing wrong with my compressor?
