  1. That is still the screenshots form the Modellers broadcast that announced it and yeah that's a 3DCG model
  2. Official Hasegawa listing is up. The cockpit is resin, so maybe that's part of the high price point? Don't have the moon skills for the rest. http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/65833/
  3. 3,400 yen is quite the price. That's more than the Gerwalk or Super Battroid and just 200 yen shy of Super Gerwalk. This needs more info because the price increase from the standard 2,000 yen VF-1J is quite significant, surely it can't be just for the cockpit. Pre-ordering two anyway.
  4. Finally caught up with this after a few weeks distraction. So about that hole. We've been told that the various Protoculture ruins have roots going down to the planet core. Windemere has been said to not have long left due to the "wound". Now that the probable actual baddies have showed up with fancy equipment it sure looks like that Dimensional Kaboom 7 years ago was basically vivisection on an unknown organism to try and figure out how to use it and in usual sci-fi fashion, potentially eventually weaponize it? That's probably what shocked Mikumo so much. Fold magic binds the whole galaxy, right? So they've peered into the heart of a mortally wounded creature...?
  5. So what I'm seeing on twitter right now is that there's a 1/72 VF-4 model kit coming, from Wave? http://figsoku.net/blog-entry-26593.html
  6. And here is a monument dedicated to my laziness...orz
  7. So it seems they saw the insane success Kotobukiya had with Frame Arms Girls series and are having a go themselves https://twitter.com/digitamin/status/730570062940143616
  8. $349 for just a box with a heating element and not even a pump? What a ridiculous ripoff. Hobbyist have been making small scale vacuumformers out of scrap material laying for decades and that costs only an hour of your time. Got an oven and a vacuum cleaner? You're 90% there to a vacuumformer.
  9. Thanks guys! There were situations here where I applied it over the whole range from flat to gloss and it seemed to work very same-y through all that. I had rescribed with panel lines quiet deep because I flooded some of the OOB ones earlier so I didn't have the issues of it running out. However the stuff does seem very, very, very thin and to get the really black and cartoony panel lines I had to do multiple applications in some places to get enough pigment. EDIT: Well today was more fun than expected. Went to the http://www.torcanmodelshow.com/ The turnout in the Mecha category was pretty fantastic: http://i.imgur.com/EbtplWi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/EHI4i2j.jpg They ended up splitting the category into 1/100 and 1/144 and smaller Max got the Bronze and Focker the Silver in 1/100: http://i.imgur.com/lKlJhrI.jpg Gold in 1/100 went to the Ground Gundam iirc. I'm pleasantly surprised at this, I thought the competition was pretty stiff. Yay either way
  10. Thanks everyone for the comments! Petrov27, the panel lines were Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color Black. The larger areas like the verniers and top of the torso was airbrushed Testor enamel Black then wiped off with lighter fluid. Big s, well these kits took way longer than I hoped (as always) and every screwup resulted in so much internal moaning and crying that I seem to be unable to post without that attitude leaking over. Hopefully the next kit or two will go better
  11. More "practice" kits because I'm still too scared to touch the Hasegawa ones. Gonna need even more practice after these because of how much I've screwed up. Managed to flood some panel lines with paint even on these ones and had to go back and rescribe. Mangled some decals too but thankfully I had a spare Wave VF-1A Valk kit for replacements. Paint peeling off with masking tape, etc. Couldn't manage a "clean" paintjob so made it all weathered instead, with black cartoony panel lines on top. Oh well, at least they're done and I'm happy enough with the end result despite all of the above. Skull Leader and Vermilion Three ready to kick ass I have two Wave VF-1A valks from a HLJ sale, one of them is gonna get painted up hopefully identically to the Max battroid so that I can have all 3 modes.
  12. It's interesting that the GB tree is identical except for the chunk taken out of lower main body part to accommodate the longer cabin. Hasegawa seems to have far less fancy switches/pins built into their molds like Bandai does for removing/replacing blocks of the mold. There is a bit of flash and mold lines all around the replace main body part However, those kind of artifacts seem to appear not only around the replaced parts but all over the various trees. I kinda want to guess that Hasegawa doesn't make whole trees as a single block. Both spark erosion and machining are expensive, right? So instead of making a whole ~30cm by ~20cm chunk of metal they maybe make a bunch of smaller blocks and bolt all of them together for a final mold? Maybe their machines have a smaller working volume? Anyone have insider knowledge? On the bright side it seems to help to easily recycle kits like we have here with the D. It's also presumably cheaper to make, package and ship the entire A tree instead of incorporating the 5 tiny parts on it into a new tool. I wonder when my pre-order at HLJ will ask for payment.
  13. Ok now that the initial excitement of the song and robot dance faded...
  14. Couldn't resist this week and watched it live. Loving it more with every ep. Hasegawa valk kits when.
  15. The vast majority of the softer scenes are the ones with the subtitles for the zentradi. Back in those days those were added optically: by finishing the animation master film, then adding a layer of subtitles on top and rephotographing both together. That always results in quality loss and in this case clearly not the best care was taken. No amount of digital cleaning can fix crappy photography.
  16. I can confirm with 100% certainty that it's in the January 2004 Newtype USA. Don't have the corresponding Japanese issue though. EDIT: Here's a scan if you want:
  17. Yeah, I've seen that listing but another mandarake order is probably not healthy for me wallet. I've been contemplating getting the 1/100 VF-1S Fokker battroid to go with the already built VF-0S one, so that's why I went looking through the usual places first and found it weird that it's listed as discontinued or long sold out. It's a shame if that's really Wave's way of doing things.
  18. Does Wave still make the 1/100 VF-1S Roy Fokker battroid kit? Seems to be out of stock everywhere. Did they just settle on making people buy the Super Battroid kit instead?
  19. Hey baxojayz! Yeah it's been a while. Thanks for all the info guys. I'm looking for more info specific to the VF-1 kits. Something like the accumulated knowledge of the community over the decade+ of building the kits.
