No new Macross kits for May, all we're getting is a reissue of 1/48 VF-1S/A Strike/Super Skull Squadron http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/mc03/

Those are 100% old Wave resin kits. Specifically this is the Wave ad from the December 1995 issue of Hobby Japan, page 186. This is why archiving old print media is important :V You are unlikely to see announcement with fully finished product photos in black and white in modern days.

Someone definitely trying to get Hasegawa to spite announce a 1/48 YF-21 -
Only reason I have five VF-31 VFG is because I wanted to make them into Walkure! But things got in the way and now I can just buy the ready made Walkure and probably get rid of the four unbuild vanilla VFGs.

2025 onward - buying the full set in bulk for half the price when some poor bastard who pre-ordered them all suddenly needs immediate cash. 😛

Traditionally animated robots are inherently rubbery and no amount of fanwank is ever going to make them completely physically consistent. And that's perfectly fine! Honestly that's more than fine! Old Battroid look amazing because they had their own appeal designed into every mode! Meanwhile the 3DCG era designs trying to perfectly physically consistently unwrap a beautiful fighter and end up with a skinny, boring and ugly Battroid with no appeal of its own.

Really glad Reina's hacking skulls are there

The parts layout

All the PLAMAX Battroids looks straight up amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing and I'm so glad we have companies stepping in to pick up Bandai dropping the ball

Preview of WF display, looks like we have a VF-1D battroid coming

No new kit announcements for April, but we are getting a few rereleases: 1/48 DYRL VF-1S/A http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/65792/ 1/72 VT-1 http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/7/ 1/72 YF-19 http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/9-2/

That's the kind of thinking that got us the utterly atrocious Bandai YF-19 feet and knee gaps 😛 Articulation and other gimmicks are the enemy of good looking models. The Wave VF-1 Battroid is great because it has the chunky limbs that the Battroid is supposed to have, which was the greatest weak point of Bandai's venture into 1/72 fully transforming VF-1. By focusing on Valk proportions they made the Battroid one of the ugliest things ever extruded. Honestly any designs from the pre-3DCG days shouldn't even attempt multi-mode stuff because as hard as they try there's still plenty of rubber magic and physical inconsistency there to force you to compromise to the point where none of the modes look good if you don't exclusively focus on them.

It's the ancient kit. There's really no reason for Bandai to try and make a 1/100 partsformer VF-1 when Wave has already made a perfect one a decade ago and still regularly re-release it.
-
Wave did already announce that one at least. Honestly I'd just take any completely new tooling for 2024 besides the Fold Booster. More Battroids would be REALLY great.
-
Also worth noting they're re-releasing Minmay 2009 with Mikimoto art http://www.hasegawa-model.co.jp/product/65787/ Ok but hear me out for 2024 wishlist: 1:48 YF-21 1:48 Macross Plus Weapon set with 2x Fold Boosters and all the Super Parts and missiles for YF-19 and YF-22 Someone on twitter has been posting a cardboard mockup of YF-21 wings to be scratchbuilt on top of a YF-19, so a spite announcement seems about right.

Given how tiny the VF-1 is compared to modern valks, Misa would look like she's riding a moped compared to every else's superbikes :V

Milia's size is roughly in the neighborhood of the various 1/12 waifu model kits out there, so that's nice for potential figure mods
