Hmm, that's true. I forgot that those jammers essentially worked like they should. I guess all they need is an invincible defense force to protect the jammers, since apparently Aerial Knights can take out a fleet of ships by themselves. -

Question: HIGH SPEED MODE! What (if anything) does the wing/control surface canting do, in terms of the high speed mode? Does it have any aerodynamic basis or is it just anime-kewlness? I kinda get it for the YF-19, as the leading edge of the wing gets smaller (less drag), but the other planes?

I dunno. I'm not sure that within a fighter generation they have such granular control over downtuned engine specs that some smart people couldn't bring it back up to par, if they wanted to. I think it might be more of a materials/expense thing.

All this back story is quite intriguing (and completely new to me). I love the various -24 derived colonial valk designs but knowing what you guys said above, I'd be keen to see what Earth's most powerful fighter is like, circa Macross Delta timeframe...

Me too. Seems a step backwards. Well, I don't find the spine *that* ugly, but no I don't think it gets any better than what's shown here. Too bad, I think the 1/72 did it a little nicer.

Yeah I dunno. I don't find the "fighter-mode only for atmosphere" thing convincing, based on almost every other Macross story. Macross Plus, come on.
