    Almost finished Mobile Suit Gundam 0079. Suddenly things have taken a turn for the mystic. Don't matter. Char and Sayla are just too cool.

    Even if he said it, it doesn't necessarily mean he actually means it. One could imagine that he is as frustrated by the legal impediments to Macross being marketed outside of Japan as any of us and might say that out of frustration. In any case, I don't think he had any problems with Macross Plus being marketed outside Japan nor some of his other stuff for that matter (Escaflowne, Arjuna, Aquarion). In any case what cannot be denied is that Macross can operate with just its Japanese base. It doesn't need to be marketed outside Japan for it to continue.

    Mobile Suit Gundam may only be 3 years older than Macross, but it the character and mecha designs make it feel older than that. Still a classic though. I had forgotten how Amuro Ray really was the blueprint for "just slightly annoying angst ridden teenage pilot".

    That's just a little bit sad. I really hope that some of the people who have Frontier as their intro to Macross later have the curiosity to discover what came before it. It'd really be a rewarding experience for some.

    Patlabor is plain marvellous. It has the perfect balance between mecha action, humour and even slice of life going on. And Captain Gotoh is one of the most wonderfully kickass yet understated characters in anime. Don't forget to check out "Patlabor; The New Files" after you're done with the tv series.

    Got a couple of old dvd's and vhs's from my bro, (including Maison Ikkoku, KOR and the original Gundam 79), so I'm gonna go old school the next couple of weeks. Think I'm starting with Gundam 0079. Saw it so, so long ago that all I can remember was Char Aznable being really cool.

    Sometimes some fans don't get the correlation between how fans actually purchasing the product allows the creators to continue doing other stuff later on. I suppose people believe that as long as the japanese consumer pays for it's not a big deal.
