What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Marzan replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I'm excited because I've just gotten tickets to see Interstella 5555 at the Planetarium here in Copenhagen. It is not very often that one get's to see one of Leiji Matsumoto's works in a 1000 m2 IMAX screen and surround sound. And specially not here in Northern Europe! I knew that Matsumoto had made some videos for Daft Punk, but I didn't know that an entire 68 minute film had come out of it. Anyone seen it? I'm so psyched! -
Keanu is a rather mediocre actor I'll agree with you on that, but if the film doesn't have a Hollywood heavyweight behind it, it doesn't stand a chance of being made.
-
Not necessarily. Quite recently one of the producers, Joshua Long, was interviewed by ANN and he stated that project was still on track and they're reworking the script. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2010-10-15 More likely the film is in development hell.

Upon a recommendation from a knowledgeable friend I'm going back to 80's and checking out Maison Ikkoku. It's veeerry long so I'll probably mix it up with something more contemporary at some point. -
The Thin White Duke and Bong Crosby??? Now that's the kind of thing that I had to see in order to believe:D Its good for Manny that he sticks to boxing

LOGH is not everyone's cup of tea due to the sheer size and scope of the affair (there's a lot and I mean a lot of characters) plus the total lack of fanservice. But if you like it, you'll grow to love it. -
That was some funny s**t!

Kinda reminds me of when I finished watching Legend of Galactic Heroes (all 110 episodes in one month) and I decided to detox with some Cromartie High School... -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0

If they do it right it could be awesome! No Mikimoto it seems, but I like how Onee-sama looks on that cover... let's just hope that they don't make The Coach some floppy haired bishounen guy -
Watched the movie now and have to say that I agree with those of you that feel that the story is just a tad disjointed. I can't quite put a finger to it, but the pacing is just a bit awkward, but i guess its to be expected when one is trying to cram so much storyline in a 2 hour film. I'm also not sure if people who had not seen the series could follow the film but I guess we'd need to find someone who has not seen the series to enlighten on us on that topic. Having said that, I enjoyed myself immensely nevertheless. The movie is at many points pure eye candy with amazing visuals and backgrounds. All the vistas of Island 1 and the rest of the Frontier convoy are mind blowing and really convey a sense of scale and space not present in the series. Sheryl's concert was also pretty incredible ..couldn’t help but remind me of Sharon Apple’s concerts in Macross Plus. Characterwise, I think the writers realized that they really needed to boost Ranka's character to make the triangle more credible. Alto was also given a bit more poise than in the series. I liked that by Sheryl saying her grandma (Mao Nome) thought Aimo was a song of the protoculture, they provide a neat link to DYRL were Oboeteimasuka was also a song of the protoculture. does anyone know if the DAINAMU song that ranka does in the mecha exhibit is on the soundtrack? I gotta have it!

I always had you pegged as the "king of the mecha". Goes to show that too much of anything now matter how much you like it, can literally be "too much"... -
Finally had the time to catch up and did episodes 22 to 24 in one go to refresh my memory. Your comparison between Gamlin and Hikaru is on the money. And Mylene does end up going after him when ignored. Typical, huh? The one thing that sticks to my mind after episode 24, is that Sivil seems to have left a lasting impression on Basara. Considering what we've seen so far from him and his relationship to women, one cannot help to wonder if Sivil is the only "female" to have broken through his "exclusive" love for music. I use the term female loosely since it we're at this stage not really sure what Sivil is. Which brings me to another point. Isn't episode 24 the first time Exedol mentions the Protodevlin in public? I'm pretty sure he's mentioned them before but more kind of in an internal monologue kinda way,

I would have definitely not liked M7 like I did without Fire Bombers music. And I think Planet Dance is is far from one of their better numbers.

I'm by all means ok with starting were we left off. I'm moving to a new place so this weekend is no good for me, but after that I'll be up for it.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0
Marzan replied to wolfx's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Finished watching the second season of Darker than Black and have to say that I actually enjoyed it more than the first. Having one story arc that stretched through all the 12 episodes worked much better for me than the two episode arcs used throughout the first season. And by removing some of the needless comic relief, they made the story just more compact. As for the ending, well, I really didn't expect too many explanations, but I think it wasn't as cryptic as the one from season one. Nice music too! -
Shiroth is correct. That's Hitagi Senjougahara or "tsundere-chan" if you prefer from Bakemonogatari. The girl can create some of the most awkward situations a guy can imagine.

The thread kinda of stalled due to lack of reviews somewhere in the early twenties (think the last properly reviewed chapter were everyone was participating at the same level was no. 23). But I guess this is as good a chance as any to restart the thread from episode 30?

Second the motion!

Calling "Plus" a generic OVA seems somewhat harsh considering the overall quality (animation, design, music) of the show. Yes, it wasn't originally meant to be Macross, and Kawamori had to rework it to fit into Macross, but overall I think he did a beautiful job of it and I don't think Plus feels "shoved awkwardly" into the continuity at all.

Macross Plus - interpretations of the ending
Marzan replied to Nicaragua's topic in Movies and TV Series
Both the OVA and movie versions of Macross Plus make it pretty clear he died.
