The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya Thread
Marzan replied to JValk's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
As far as I've heard, Manga Entertainment is got the license in the UK and will be releasing it in the summer of 2011. It's being released in the States in the spring. I'd hear the rumour that the japanese blu ray would have subtitles in english, but I checked CD Japan and it seems that information was false. But a quality fansub should be available soon if you don't want to wait till the summer. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0

Finally got to watching the third part of Megazone 23 and was at first confused as hell, but then it got much better and I actually enjoyed it a lot towards the end. Still think it's the weakest out of the 3 parts. Having 3 different directors and different character designers on a continuous narrative is probably not the best idea. And Bishop Won Dai could be seen "coming" from a mile away. Not the most original storytelling there. And everytime I saw Eve a part of my brain couldn't help but thinking "Ishtar, what are you doing in Megazone 23". But I suppose it would be more correct to ask : "Eve, what are you doing in Macross II!" -

Ghost in the Shell SAC Stand Alone Complex in 3d? I'd rather have had a brand new SAC ova or better yet a 3rd season. -

Just finished rewatching Paranoia Agent. Man, that's just one messed up world that Satoshi Kon drew up. But it works nicely. The first part of the series in particular, is amazing. -

March 2011? That's not too much of a wait then. Thanks for the heads up! -

Unfortunately Summer Wars doesn't seem to merit a release in Europe so I'll have to wait for the official release. Have heard so many good things about it that I can't wait. Continuing with my Maison Ikkoku marathon, which I mix up with a bit of Paranoia Agent (could they be more different?). Looking forward to the holidays cause I have plenty of stuff parked ready to be watched. -
Excellent! If I'm not mistaken 26 is actually the halfway point in the series so it'll be an important milestone.

I don't suppose they're tuna flavoured, right? I really have to add: Wow, they really do take their "authentic" merchandising seriously in Japan.

I remember that movie. The lady scared the cr*p out of me.

Poor Flower Girl! Fire Bomber's biggest fan finally get's to see Basara with her flowers in his hand only to have them returned to her before even getting a chance to say anything. More seriously now, I hadn't really though of Sivil's coma in the terms that you suggested in your review. I always thought that it was more a question of Basara's spiritia being so pure and concentrated, that it just overwhelmed her as a spiritia consuming being. But I guess you do have an interesting point. Maybe its Basara's inclination to so freely share his spiritia with everyonem than drives her into this state. I thought it was kind of cool that the episode was all about duets. We see Max and Miria sharing a moment, Gamlin and Mylene, Akiko and Ray etc. Was well written in that regard. Finally I really continue enjoying how much M7 uses music from previous Macross'. The song that Basara and Alice Holiday are meant to sing is "For now a friend" from Macross II (the one sung during the Moon festival).

While continuing with the long ride that is Maison Ikkoku, I decided that I needed something to balance it out so I'm rewatching Paranoia Agent. Cannot get more different than that! Watching it I'm reminded that Satoshi Kon is one the few people that really deserves to be called a "genius". -
We got up to episode 24. No one's reviewed episode 25 yet.

I think Shiroth mentioned a subgroup called ILA. I don't know if anyone else has done the entirety of the series. Quite true. Harlock is manly to a level that makes many of today's so called "gar" characters seem little wimps in comparison. -

Got my hands on Arcadia of my Youth. Captain Harlock is an absolute classic! The pacing is a bit funny and there is more melodrama than in most soap operas, but some sequences are plain stunning. And Leiji Matsumoto's character designs are so beautiful that it hurts. Is it just me, or could Harlock's ship have served as inspiration for the design of the zentraedi ships? -
Don't forget he kisses his sister too! Total bad guy.

The Blue Max. Of course, that's a wonderful connection right there and it makes a lot of sense. Out of the top of my head I can remember that at some point in SDFM, one can see "NCC-1701" on one of the computer screens. If I'm not mistaken that's the registry number of the original Enterprise in Star Trek.

Macross voice performers in non-Macross roles
Marzan replied to Captain of the SDF-1 Macross's topic in Movies and TV Series
One really has to be careful with those female otaku! -
Plus the subbers can translate "as is" instead of having to adequate their translation to the mouth movements of the characters. Granted in animation it's not as hard as in live action, but is still represents a challenge.

My experience with (english) dubs is that the younger the character, the worse the voice that it gets. And since most of the characters in anime are teenagers, well...let's just say that the lack of trained actors really show.

Massive fan! I think Justin Bieber is the greatest singer since Elvis.

Surely the second? The boy is a great singer!

Now that I think about it, it doesn't really affect the ending, as much as offer an alternative view on how events.
