  1. Still watching Utena and have to say that even though it's kinda repetitive at time times, its quite good. If you like psychological stuff a la Evangelion it's definitely worth a look. Took a break last night from it to watch Eureka Seven; Psalm of Planets. The animation and visuals are ok but the story is completely different from the series and some of the characters are unrecognizable. Stick to the series I would recommend.
  2. I agree with you. I remember watching stuff like Speed Racer, Mazinger Z and Candy waay before Robotech ever came out. HG's claim of being 'groundbreaking' is just plain nonsense.
  3. My reference was pertaining to the outlook on life of 2 of the main characters in said series and the general mood that it creates. You'd have to watch Macross 7 to understand what I mean.
  4. +1. What does this even have to do with Alexander Dumas' novel I dare ask?
  5. Actually Gurren Lagann is a pretty good example when I think about it. Basara and Kamina would totally understand each other
  6. M7 splits the Macross fanbase. Personally, I love it. The problem is that it starts kind of slow and doesn't really get 'really' good until after some 10-15 chapters. And of course, if you don't get into Fire Bomber's music it'll be hard to enjoy it. But if you do, you'll find yourself sating BOMBA! a lot.
  7. Yup. It really conveys speed in an awesome manner. Not sure I'm too crazy about the way Alto was drawn. The angle seems a bit awkward.
  8. After having been told by 2 very different people that my life was incomplete if I didn't watch it, I finally got around to check out Revolutionary Girl Utena. So far it feels a bit shoujo which isnt really my thing, but I can definitely appreciate the cool and original artistic designs. Hoping the story catches me soon.
  9. That's what I thought too after watching it for a couple of times. Having said that, the scenario that Taksraven mentions is fascinating. What if its all happening post E of E? Anno could yet surprise us all.
  10. Macross Plus is amazing on so many levels. And it has the best english language DVD (the whole package) of any Macross in my view. Regarding the music, personally I think Macross Plus has a fantastic soundtrack (done by none other that Yoko Kanno herself) and I have a hard time imagining any other music playing to Isamu's/Guld's duel.
  11. Minmay's grandson a mob boss? Sounds entertaining in a surreal kind of way
  12. Concur on the racks. They should be able to take a lot more than that. Still darn funny!
  13. I liked Macross II. Sure its not DYRL, SDFM or Plus, but its quite entertaining in its own right, has cool music, great capital ships and one of the prettiest character designs in the Macross universe in Ishtar. Having said that it does have one of the worst dubs I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. But that's why I learnt my lesson in the past and stick to the sub versions as much as possible.
  14. Just with a larger budget and delusions of grandeur.
  15. I'm sure you will thrilled to know that none other than William Shatner will cover this song in his upcoming album "Searching for Major Tom". Other classics to be included are Bohemian Rhapsody, Space Oddity and Iron Man. http://williamshatne...rticle419.phtml http://music-mix.ew....lbum-major-tom/ I cannot wait to get my hands on what will surely be the musical highlight of the year.
  16. Speaking of the man in Skywalker Ranch have you seen his latest "special"? http://movies.yahoo....-191605319.html Anyway back to GITS, I really hope the 2 series get a bluray release outside Japan soon.
  17. I definitely liked a lot of stuff after episode 26, and I though the end was very fitting, but I'm not sure I understand why they would
  18. Specially Ghost in Shell Innocence, huh? The older Oshii gets, the more he likes his characters to hold long, deep conversations with little animation.
  19. Finished watching Eureka Seven and am grateful for all those who recommended it. It is a very, very good anime, with good characters, nice story, mechanical designs and a killer OST. Having said that it does suffer a bit in the pacing department. . But even with that, it still was some epic stuff. Think I'll check out Utena next.
  20. Considering Bianca Castafiore is the only relevant female character in the Tintin series let's hope that that is not the case
  21. Nice! But I'm not seeing Professor Calculus. And I do hope Captain Haddock gets to scream something about "blistering barnacles!" at some point
  22. It has to be fake or a fan special, doesn't it? I mean I cannot imagine a legitimate company (even HG) blatantly ripping off an image from another show and presenting as its own without permission or a legal basis.
  23. I don't think many of Herge's early Tintin production are likely to get adapted. They reflect much of the horrible stereotypes and prejudices of the day. Specially Tintin in the Congo and Tintin in America wil be a no no. I think The 7 Crystal Ball + Prisoners of the Sun would make for a an amazing movie a la Indiana Jones.
  24. Tintin was probably my favourite comic book in my early teens. Initially I was bit concerned when I heard that it was going to be Spielberg doing the film adaptation but seeing the trailer I'm sold. It seems to take the Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackhams Treasure + some bits of The Crab with the Golden Claws (that's were Tintin and Captain Haddock meet). Look enormously forward to this movie and really hope that its a success.
