The MS of Amuro Ray - quick question
Marzan replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Mobile Suit Gundam novels, written by none other than Yoshiuki Tomino himself (although they're pretty much non-canon). -
Would love to see a full size version of those reverse-trap Alto and Sheryl!
-
Wow. I'm excited about this. As twoducks said, I really hope that this film is a success and they have enough momentum to do a series. I'd love to see them animate the Retribution arc. Bit of a shame that they didn't get some of the seeiyus from the original series. Specially Nobutoshi Hayashi as Guts. And of course I'm hoping it we get a nice BD release soon.

Actually if you're a young woman in your prime (like Sheryl is) and you practice yoga or gymnastics, the angle on her spine is not impossible (improbable yes).

Macross Frontier Movie 2 thread - Now available on Blu-ray/DVD

In the case of Milia and Mao, doesn't the fact that the former is a Meltran and Mao 100% pure human play into the whole aging thing? Nice catch with going back to SDFM and seeing how the folding time differences factor into it. It makes for interesting scenarios a la "Gunbuster" -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Marzan replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, its your pretty standard high school comedy/romance were the two main characters decide to help each other out in order to hook up with the people they like. If you've watched a couple of these shows, you'll pretty much know how it will end from just seeing the first episode. It didn't really do much for me but I suppose I wasn't the target demographic. The one show I did finish was Steins Gate and at least for me it totally lived up to the hype. It deals with time travel but does it better than other anime and refreshingly enough most of the principal characters are actually adults (well 18 at least but you get my point). There's a good mix of comedy and drama and couple of cliffhangers that just leave you tense all day. And the main character Okabe Rintarou is one of the best male characters in years. -
The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn
Marzan replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Got to see Tintin last night and have to confess that even though I enjoyed it, I found it a bit of a mixed bag. The background visuals, CGI and capture technology are nothing short of impressive. All the action scenes are absolutely sublime and put many other blockbusters to shame. It's definitely a crowd pleaser in that regard. But... They do take a lot of liberties with the story . So if you're a fan, have an open mind about this. It's obviously not a problem if you've never read the comics or just have a vague recollection of them. In that case I can thoroughly recommend Tintin as the closest thing to classic Indiana Jones you'll see.- 39 replies

Macross Frontier Movie 2 thread - Now available on Blu-ray/DVD
Marzan replied to Tochiro's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
VLC doesn't really work well with a lot of .mkv files. If you have Windows, I'm told CCCP is excellent and you just need to have it set up right for the 10bit. If you use mac, then its a bit more difficult. I managed to watch it well enough with MPlayer OSX but have heard that some people had problems with this too. -

Still excited after watching the film late last night. Now with a bit less irish coffee in me I can say that while not perfect, it was great. I loved the battles, the concerts (the animation and CGI in the concerts was amazing) and I agree with those who say that the main characters were more likeable. I always liked Sheryl and Ranka, but Alto had never really appealed to me as a character. In this film he does. He's more decisive, more direct and takes more risks than before. It's a shame that some other characters had so little screen time, but I guess it couldn't be avoided in a 2 hour movie. One thing I ask myself though, is how this film will be received by people who have not seen Macross stuff previously. I mean some of the stuff that had me fistpumping In any case, I suppose that most of the people who will watch this movie are fans anyway. -
Macross Frontier Movie 2 thread - Now available on Blu-ray/DVD
Marzan replied to Tochiro's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
It's past midnight and I've just seen the movie for the first time. Totally worth the wait. Boy am I glad I didn't give into temptation and read the spoilers. As RDclip says, it truly is a new story and one really doesn't know what is going to happen next. Riding an emotional high right now so I'll wait before posting my thoughts on the film. But right now all I can say is that the word 'awesome' is not quite enough. Looking forward to finally going to be able to read the entire thread and being able to click the spoilers. -

While I wait for customs to release my Sayonara no Tsubasa, I'm watching Steins Gate. The mad scientist characters cracks me up every time he opens his mouth. There should be more protagonists like him in anime and manga in general. -
Whenever I'm down, I just look at one Saejima's ridiculous facial expressions and my whole day brightens up Still no package thanks to the ever so diligent customs people, so no podcast for me yet. I assume that it is impossible to listen to it without having Sayonara no Tsubasa spoiled so I'll just have to be patient.

Don't they have a single mind in the building that realizes that their franchise as it stands is at a dead end? No one willing to take a gamble on if it would be better to reboot and take advantage of newer forms of media that are cheaper than a tv series or OVA? Maybe even bring in new talent to move into videogames or the like and then really create something new, instead of endlessly breaking up, retelling and repackaging content that's over 25 years old.

Enjoyed your last podcast so I'm looking forward to this one. However it'll have to wait till I've watched the movie (my package with the BD seems to be held up in customs..aghh).

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

Garret Hedlund?? Boy do they seem to be getting off on the wrong foot for Akira. And yeah, 90 mill doesn't sound like an awful lot for a modern blockbuster. -

I've been very patient, but now knowing that the BD is in transit somewhere around the world, the wait is killing me... -
I cannot imagine that there many such machines around, let alone in Europe. Must be worth a tidy sum!

I got an email from CD Japan yesterday saying it was shipped and on its way. This surprised me greatly, since it was on the morning of the 19th and not yet the 20th in Japan. Guess they couldn't wait Oh, Keith, that unpacking video is pure torture...what a tease... -

I seem to be having problems with notifications (not getting any) ever since the system upgrade. I've tried to change things around (changed to inmediate notification) a bit but to no avail. Am I the only one experiencing this? -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Marzan replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Didn't know it was based on some unfinished novels. Well, I don't think it would have been continued anyway. I think it just didn't appeal to the broader anime audience nowadays. Got to finally watch Giant Robo. What a gem! At first I thought it was going to be too shounen, but it turned to be pretty darn good across the line. The best bit for me is that they mixed all these seeminggly incongruent elements (giant robots, superpowers, steampunk, 1930's visuals and stuff out of cheezy kung fu movies) and they still work at the end. And the OST is fabulous if you like orchestral music. I read there was a sequel done recently, but have also heard that it's pretty dissapointing after the original. Anyone seen it?
