The poll results are remarkably balanced in my opinion. Pretty evenly spread chronogically even. The top 5 shows are from the 80's, 90's, 00's and 10's. Interesting . Frontier winning was not a suprise since it got so many things right (music, mecha, characters, art, animation) and is probably the one Macross show that can be watched by current 12 and 42 year olds alike. It's clear that the OVA format is not a popular one for Macross productions too. II, Zero and to a lesser extent Plus did not so good. 3 out of my 4 favorite Macross songs made it, yay!

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Votoms is the kind of series that could have been perfect with 26 episodes. But back then one could get some really long runs and that sometimes spread things thin. Cromartie is a gem. Every time Freddie or Mechazawa come in the frame I burst out laughing. Did you watch in English or Japanese? -

Riproaring mofo of a spectacle, but they could have dialled up the sharpness/less haziness. Had to adjust my TV a couple of times to see some times.- 316 replies

That makes sense. It's too early to tell about the story only two episodes in. It's a real shame that Madhouse couldn't do it again. They did a great job with season 1. -
RIP. Is responsible for so many classics.

Fate Zero was a good watch but the rest were pretty boring IMO. One thing though is that Gilgamesh has to be the single most irritating and smug SOB I've seen. Dislike him with a passion! Just picked up the second season of One Punch Man. Is it just me or did the quality of art/animation take a nosedive? Really noticeable. I can see Madhouse is no longer doing it too. -

Anyone watching Carole and Tuesday? The production values are insane and its pretty entertaining. It's also pretty interesting from a Macross perspective. A music centric show by Watanabe set in another planet (granted the depicition of Mars makes it indistinguishable from Earth). -

I finished reading the Broken Empire trilogy by Mark Lawrence. Think of a low budget, less ambitious and complex Tale of Ice and Fire. Absolutely brutal at points. The protagonist, Jorg Ancrath is as nasty and morally ambiguous as they come.

AKIRA LIVE ACTION MOVIE = Life Support?

When fans nail the spirit and esthetics of the source material better than multibillion dollar studios, its time for Hollywood to take a long hard look at itself. -

New season is not really too impressive so far. Granted, the heavey hitters like Attack on Titan 3 and OPM 2 haven't started yet. Most interesting so far has been Demon Slayer on Saturdays. Really fluid animation, nice looking art and the story seems promising enough. The Fruits Basket remake really took me back 15 years. Exactly the same, just with better animation. -
Can probably draw better than the guy doing the Robotech comics

Saw this last week and was much better than I expected. My expectations were low; live action anime and manga adaptations tend to be absolutely awful. This was ok. They crammed too much plot and emphasized the romance angle a tad much, but they got so much right and respected the spirit of the manga. Alita was perfect and Waltz was a pretty good Ido. I watched the film with some colleagues who are not into manga and they enjoyed it. A lot. One of them who is a Marvel universe evangelist actually said that he never thought he'd see something that managed action/combat sequences on the same level as Marvel. So Cameron and Rodriguez have made something even "neutrals" can enjoy. Of course it seems that the all important Murican' market didn't share the same opinion so we probably won't get a quality/big budget sequel.

Might actually watch that. Doesn't look too shabby.

New Macross TV Series in 20xx (sometime this decade)

That wouldn't be too bad, would it? Although maybe a new fresh of eyes/intellect is what's needed. -

It's a very different beast to Haruhi, much more comedic and romance oriented. But I can see how some of the characters remind of some of the Haruhi crowd. The Kaguya-sama manga is hilarious too. -
I agree with your take. There seems to be a lot of that unfortunately when it comes to adapting pop culture/comics/manga, you name it. In the case of Ghostbusters the reboot, they got so much wrong I don't know where to start. Not too excited about this upcoming sequel, but it cannot be much worse, IMO.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0

Yeah, it got pretty graphic and out there. Me, having grown up on 80's and early 90's OVA I don't mind too much, but I guess if you're coming from My Hero Academia/Naruto and barge into this, you'll pretty shocked. Pretty entertaining watch and I do like it, but Dororo and Kaguya-sama take the trophy of AOTS for me. The Promised Neverland is awesome too. Regarding ShieldBro, Interestingly enough, a couple of the writers over at ANN absolutely hate it. I used to use ANN a lot for reviews, but they seem to have gotten a lot of their own personal agendas/moral code deeply immersed into their writing. Not a fan. -

I hope Kawamori brings in better screenwriting and directing talent. Singing and pretty art are not enough to drive an entire film. So we're looking at a new tv series at the earliest in what...2020 now? -
Good thread here. Been reading Kaguya-sama, Ooko, Claymore and Vinland Saga. And of course Berserk whenever Miura has the decency to update. If you want something reaaally different, I just finished reading Dorohedoro. The weirdest, quirkiest manga I've ever read. Pretty unique stuff.

Kaguya-sama is absolutely the show I'm looking the most forward to. The manga is delightful with some hilarious characters. The mangaka has managed to keep it fresh and funny throughout. I really hope they don't mess up the adaptation. So far this season I've enjoyed the first episodes of Dororo (adaptation of the Tezuka manga) and The Promised Neverland. Really solid starts to both of them. Unsurprisingly, the worst show so far has been by Satelight. Girly Air Force was as bland and predictable as they come.
