  1. Yeah, this is one of the very few cases were the adaptation might surpass the source material. Artland and our good ole Noboru Ishiguro did a spectacular job with the LOGH OVA. They simply nailed it. And using a classical musical score just added a bucketload of oomph to the series. Everything is better with Mahler in the background. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed reading the novels too.
  2. I must admit I've lost faith in any further Macross shows being any good storywise. It's a Satelight thing. When was the last time Satelight made a show that had an interesting story with engaging characters? Visuals, yes, they do well, and some of their art, design and animation is top of the line. But storytelling? They keep on pumping one forgettable show after another (Nobunaga the Fool, M3, Pandora, World End, Ragnastrike Angels etc etc). Yes, they made Log Horizon but that was an adaptation of a series of decent novels, so Satelight had a decent story and characters to adapt in the first place. I don't think they've done anything original work since Macross Frontier that I thoroughly enjoyed Like many artists, Kawamori peaked as a creator in his 20's and 30's (DYRL, Plus, Escaflowne, Arjuna etc). Still a top notch mechanical designer (and I still think he's really good at creating and designing worlds).
  3. Love it. Where is this located?
  4. Big West and an Italian representative are currently going through a process to secure the rights for the word "Macross" for several types of merchandise in the European Union (they already have secured the trademark to Macross Delta). HG is of course opposing this (you can say a lot of things about their creative staff, but their legal department is absolutely formidable). Big West has a pretty decent chance in the EU system, which is much more sympathetic to original creators of content/work than marketers/distributors.
  5. Holiday's are over and daily life is back which means binging on the summer series. And the invitable cull. The survivors are as follows: Vinland Saga: No brainer. I'm a big, big fan of the manga and so far Studio I.G is doing a stellar job with the adaptation. The changes have not disturbed the flow of the stories and while it has some of that cheap CGI that all seinen series seem to be saddled with, its not enough to ruin the action scenes. Fire Force: really dig the art and the world building. Really hawt character designs too. Dr. Stone: Crazy premise and tackles some interesting moral questions. Visuals are ok too. Dumbell Nan Kilo Moteru: High school girls working out in a gym with muscle guys. I always watch a "light" shallow series a season. This is it for me. Dungeon 2: We need more AIZ. Dropped: Demon Slayer. Just some weeks ago I was raving about the art and animation. Unfortunately, the story has a massive mood shift around episode 10 and takes a turn for the farcical with some loud comic relief characters suddenly taking up a lot of screen time. A shame really.
  6. I was really digging Demon slayer too
  7. Angry is an understatement. Seething with volcanic fury is more like it. i hate Tatsunoko as much as HG now. Why?! i hope Big West can continue with it’s slow deliberate efforts to reclaim its name and copyrights in other markets.
  8. Guys, check out Fire Force. Art, animation is all top notch and a premise that’s a bit different to what we’re used to.
  9. Dororo ended pretty well and it was a good ride, I hope we can get more adaptations of old school manga like this one. Finished Yamato 2202 too (underwhelming) and will of course now do an Evangelion rewatch with it being on Netflix and all.
  10. I finally had a chance to finish the series and must say I agree with you. I don't know if it's just a case of having colossal expectations after the masterpiece that was 2199, but I just ended with a feeling of being underwhelmed. The script and story was not as tight as with 2199, and the Gatlantians were not as engaging adversaries as the Gamillans were. None of the new characters were fleshed out sufficiently and we didn't get the same feeling of a tight crew we got in 2199. And that last episode took the "cosmic" to almost magical levels. It might work for Ideon, but it didn't do it for Yamato. And Akira is STILL single? What kind of a messed up universe is that?
  11. I was told at a convention in Paris, that European distributors, even UK ones, have more freedom with their pricing and subtitling, since European BD's are on a different code to Japan's unlike the US. That is why series like Madoka and the Monogatari series are almost twice as expensive with the american Aniplex releases than their UK counterparts. Yes, they have more extras and booklets and the like, but hardly to justify the difference in price There's some other tidbits in US releases like not being able to remove the English subtitles when listening to the original japanese audio. I suppose that's also to remove the possibility of reverse export.
  12. Sweet lord, I hope we never see that animated!
  13. It will be surreal when that happens. Crazy.
  14. Is there enough material to make a second season? I was suprised that Bit.., sorry Malty is still around to do some minor mischief.
  15. , I think that was the first reaction of most of us when we read that movie name....
  16. Absolutely. I cannot imagine BW partnering up with a British distributor and doing a Europe only release, considering the modest size of the English language market in Europe. Unless funimation which just purchased Manga Entertainment gets creative and cooks something up.
  17. So there’s this news floating around that Big West recently got the trademark for Macross in the UK. I did some checking and found out it’s true. https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/1/UK00003235006 Interesting times indeed. I wonder what they’ll do with it. HG’s stranglehold is slipping.
  18. Maybe it could also be the blond girl that was briefly introduced in the first film? In any case, it could become the main focus of the film and the big selling point. I'm trying to use my positive glasses for this upcoming film (it's hard!). One thing this film could have a big advantage with, is that the Knights will presumably no longer be the main antagonist. Their paper thin characterizations were not helped by their total lack of "fear" factor as an enemy. If you're not gonna flesh out the antagonist, at least make them dread provoking (think the Vajra, Zentradi and the Prodevlin early on in their respective series. Heck even Ivanov was a scary mofo in Zero). Maybe Kawamori will finally make NUNS the unequivocal villain?
  19. Name for the new Macross Delta film announced. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-06-02/new-macross-delta-film-title-revealed-with-6th-singer-teased/.147397 Thoughts?
  20. New Macross Delta film announced officially and with a name too https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2019-06-02/new-macross-delta-film-title-revealed-with-6th-singer-teased/.147397
  21. Good question. I just followed the herd on Twitter when it came out. Some of these Isekai shows have such incredibly long names that people just boil it down to a word or two for convenience. “Slime”, Shield Bro” etc
  22. Seto is probably right about the different performers doing Sharon. I also think the type of songs that Sharon "sings" might not fit in with the general tone of the other more traditional pop or rock performers.
  23. Yeah that last episode of Shield Bro really should have been the end of the tv series. Who the hell cares about them Waves when Malty been such an incredibly "popular" antagonist throughout the series. ON another note, I Finally got my Yamato 2202 BD's and I'm getting started on that. Good old fashioned space opera with modern animation. I cannot wait!
  24. Finally got to watch the finale and I must say I was a bit surprised. Bran? Really? And that with a North not belonging to the Seven Kingdoms? Even with Tyrion's reasoning, it's still a hard sell to the other lords. I'm sure that with George Martin's writing it would all make a whole lot more sense and be better accomplished. I look forward to reading it if he ever comes that far. Disappointing finale. That scene with the King's council felt like some light entertainment played for laughs. Think of the acting performances and gravitas you've had on that table (Tywin Lannister, Ollena Tyrrel, Ned Stark etc). Just having some "friendly" faces on the table didn't sit well with me. What I did like was the Stark children surviving. After their harrowing trials of the first couple of seasons, it was good to see Ned's kids land on their feet. Even though in some of the cases it was a bit contrived. And the Unsullied got played big time. Jon ended up leaving beyond the wall. Might end up being King over there, LOL.
