Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
Marzan replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
For those who mentioned streaming as a way for Macross to evade the HG issue, the problem there is that as long as HG has international rights to the Macross name, they can ask for a share of the pie. Even if they were to stream from Japan on Daisuki, HG would at the very least demand that the steam be geoblocked. It would be interesting to say the least if they tried, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I get the feeling that Big West wouldn't think the effort would be worth the hassle.- 2025 replies

Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
Marzan replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Thanks for your post Tom. It's interesting to read the take of someone who actually knows and has worked with some of the people involved. I cannot imagine the failure of this Kickstarter not having some sort of consequence. HG is not some super-conglomerate or government office that can have a group of people earning guaranteed salaries and not providing tangible results without it affecting the bottom line. If Agrama is really serious about keeping Robotech alive, he should replace the staff he has and outsource any production to a studio that actually has a succesful track record doing this kind of thing. I still think that beyond my wishful thinking, keeping the international rights of the Macross/UN-Spacy names is not a good move for Harmony Gold. It serves as lightning rod for bad PR against the company which generates a backlash to anything they do from casual fans. Moreover, those copyrights don't actually make them any money because Big West won't release anything outside Japan anyway while HG is squatting on those rights. Big West can keep on trucking with Macross with the Japanese market only. HG should just sell those rights off to someone who can work with Big West, while keeping the SDFM rights they got through Tatsunoko back in the day which allow them to keep marketing their Robotech stuff. And with the money the get for the rights they can actually finance something worthwhile.- 2025 replies

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Marzan replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yup. But mostly because I'm a mecha freak so I tend to watch those no matter what. The show is really quite meh IMO. Having said that, the last episodes have kind up picked up a bit so I hope it gets a good final stretch. -
Thanks guys.

This has probably been asked and answered before, but a quick search turned out negative. What (and from when) is the very first video release of SDFM in Japan?

Macross Plus in BD!!! OVA w/ English Dub & Movie w/En
Marzan replied to treatment's topic in Movies and TV Series
Do you have any idea how many came out in the first release? I'm just trying to have an idea of how many of these sets actually get sold. The BD rankings published each week (at least in english) only account for the top 10 sellers.- 516 replies

Just checked out the first season of british crime series called 'The Fall' (on Netflix). Absolutely brilliant stuff. It turns the classic 'serial killer' story on it's head by having the criminal living a by all accounts very normal life. Gillian Anderson stars as the alpha female policewoman hunting him.

I'm thinking that they're currently operating on the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" idea. How the people in charge of their communication with the fanbase still have jobs, is one of life's big mysteries.- 2025 replies

That life-seize figure. Dear God...I wonder how that much would go for (if it was even on sale?)?

Now this is a remake that I'd actually like to watch. Disney is doing a remake of The Jungle Book and it seems to have a pretty decent cast IMO http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/bill-murray-play-baloo-disneys-722990?mobile_redirect=false

Thanks for the link Duke Togo. It definitely sounds that things are not as definitive as first reported. The way I see it, with Miyazaki out of the picture, Ghibli has to be smart and downsize. Ghibli films are not going to be the homerun hits they were previously by simply having the name Miyazaki on the cover. They're going to have to compete in a rough industry with small margins of profit. It makes sense that they take their time and find the right business model.

Robotech Academy - You want a new Robotech series...?
Marzan replied to Einherjar's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The secret that Frank Agrama is keeping, is that Harmony Gold bought the international Ghibli rights from Disney and now they're going to bring the whole Ghibli stable into the Robotech universe. I hear that Totoro is going to be a Karbarran and the huge tree where he lives the true source of the Flower of Life.- 2025 replies

The ultra smooth Inaho keeps kicking Martian butt with minimum fuss. It was actually really cool how he took care of the Argyre, but I really need some background on why the 14 year old Inaho is smarter than every soldier on the planet.

If HG's Robotech creative team was as talented and resourceful as their lawyers, they would have a couple of TV series and films by now. I'm shuddering to read that they actually plan to carry on with the Academy in some way or form even after the patent lack of interest from their fans.- 2025 replies

Sorry, missed your post. Strange, doesn't even begin to describe this. It would be a slap in the face to Robotech fans IMO. Selling them merchandise for a project they didn't back? I mean come on... If this failed kickstarter doesn't have consequences for the personnel composition or the way HG runs it's Robotech property, then Frank Argama is asleep at the wheel.- 2025 replies

Well that was not surprising. I guess they were afraid of people pulling their support on the last day thereby lowering the total and making this even more of a marketing debacle. From their last update: "We've also been asked if some of the merchandise offered in this Kickstarter campaign could still be made available. We are currently working to bring these and other new Robotech products to market for Robotech's 30th Anniversary in 2015 and beyond." Am I understanding this correctly? They're considering selling merchandise from a show that never got off the ground in any form?- 2025 replies

I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually prefer Yuki's version 1. I think her long, lean design is more in keeping with her character design from the series. That's not to say that v.2 isn't tempting with those generous proportions.

How many minutes of content has HG released since the original Robotech? The Untold Story, Sentinels, 3000, Shadow Chronicles and Love, Live, Alive...That's like what? A little over 300 minutes over a quarter of a century? They're really demanding a lot patience from their fanbase.- 2025 replies

This amount of popcorn is making me very thirsty. Be kind and pass a soda around too... It seems HG has finally smelled the coffee and given up on reaching the kickstarter goal. I always thought they aimed too high, half a million bucks for a production team so devoid of original ideas just wasn’t going to happen. The bad thing is that it seems that they’re just going to continue with their business as usual. Same old convention tours and releases of material that’s been out before many times. It must really suck to be a hardcore RT fan. I really feel for them. There’s nothing to look forward too.- 2025 replies

Thanks for the info. Do you know if it's possible to download albums from the Flying Dog website from outside Japan?
