  1. Veffidas is one of the strangest character designs in entire Macross universe. A mixture of New Wave drummer/East German javelin thrower and Guld Goa Bowman... unique!
  2. Good idea. Let's see if there is some real relationship between the songs being sung and Basara's state of mind.
  3. Akiko is a great yet underdeveloped character in Macross 7. And beautiful, sexy Rex....I'll just wait till she appears to unload what I have to say!
  4. Episode 3 is the first time we hear My Soul for You isn't it?? Favourite Macross song ever. It's so good that they had to use it in Macross Frontier too! So good that the Mosaic fans have no choice but to say: "Nekki Basara is serious... Seriously whacked!"
  5. Also please note that they call it "classic Japanese anime series Robotech". That must really irritate the folks down at HG. The guys who did Smallville are doing the script?? Talk about starting on the wrong foot...
  6. By then Maguire will maybe able to play Captain Global...
  7. Its on friday that last weeks opening weekends get released, right?
  8. According to the series, Sheryl is Mao Nome's granddaughter. Considering that Mao comes from an island in the southwest Pacific area and that a large part of the islands in that area are french speaking, it wouldn't be surprising if the Nome's spoke french. Remember that Sara Nome sang in french in Macross Zero.
  9. Does that mean that there's a sexy, hard hitting, green haired Meltran lady waiting for him at home?
  10. Have already watched Gunbuster twice (masterpiece!), Diebuster, Wings of Honneamise, Kare Kano (unique in a very good way!), Mahoromatic (what a strange ending), This Ugly but Beautiful World (underwhelming)...and even Ebichu (very funny!) Gurren Laggan is definitely next on my list! Shikabane Hime will follow that Thanks for your recommendations. And yes, I'll avoid heroics aka Nadia the Movie
  11. Currently going through a " I have to watch everything Gainax has ever made" phase. I'm goin backwards in time so I finally got my hands on Nadia, Secret of Blue Water. For children mostly, but its fun to see the stuff that Hideaki Anno did before having severe mental issues (oh and his last work before Evangelion!). By the way, has anyone noticed that captain Nemo in Nadia looks exactly like Captain Gloval?? I mean even the uniform is similar.
  12. A hypothetical question in this whole debate: What happens if HG goes completely broke (no website, no comics, no Shadow Rising). Do the international rights for SDFM go up for grabs? Or do they lapse back to Tatsunoko? Any chance Big West caould get it back and finally be able to market all things Macross outside of Japan?
  13. He looks 30. He is the main mind behind one of the most popular anime franchises ever. There must be something rotten somewhere in his life. Maybe his wife is a hideous, domineering, hairy madwoman
  14. I just remembered that in the episode where we find out about Faye's past and how she woke up from cryogenic sleep theres a chase scene. They nearly hit a car which if I'm not mistaken is Lupin IIIs car from Castle of Cagliostro.
  15. Is that Aya Endo on the right? Whoever it is, she's kinda cute.
  16. Its probably going to be a couple of weeks for a cinema rip. But for the real deal (quality fan subs and the works) we'll have to wait till the blu-ray comes out i guess.
  17. And that's all there is to it. I'll always have a soft spot for Robotech, because it was one of the first anime I ever saw, but afer watching a lot of anime later in life, its limitations become painfully clear. And the Macross franchise has its highs and lows, but its highs are somewhere up in the clouds where HG can only dream of.
  18. Thank you very much for posting this review! Its very informative without giving too much away. I can't wait to watch this movie...
  19. Yeah, loved Spike's hangover cure!
  20. That episode is so unbelievably sad and poingnant. I hadn't really warmed up to Faye until that point in the story.
  21. I think Kevin McKeever has been drinking too much kool aid lately. I think HG need to find themselves other products they can develop. Maybe bring some other anime titles to America or try to fix the whole legal conundrum with the Macross franchise (mission impossible I know). Resting on the expectation of a live action Robotech success seems totally naive. If a franchise as popular as Dragonball that appeals to the main cinema demographic (teens) totally bombed, then what hope is there for some other anime products? Evangelion has been in development hell for years and Cowboy Bebop has been delayed every year. At least the last one has the advantage of a major Hollywood star backing it.
  22. Well I can't read the review because my japanese is astonishingly poor, but so far there have been no negative reviews, so it must be all right then. I'd like to ask the people who've seen it, if the animation and character designs are consistent, and of higher quality than in the series (they should be since its a movie!)
  23. I don't think it'll ever get done. They have almost no money, and let's face it, if you're a producer and Tommy Yune comes up to u with a proposal, you look at the track record and say, "No way. This franchise may have some very devoted fans, but let's face it hasn't been a mainstream hit for a quarter of a century now"
  24. By the way, there's only a couple of hours left til the movie comes out (its already the 21st in Japan). Is there going to be a separate thread once those fortunate enough to see it post their reviews?? Or does it stay here??
