Just finished watching Nadia yesterday. Really quite good except for those awful filler episodes...And yes, I agree with those who have pointed out that it was kinda of lab for a lot of concepts which were later developed in Evangelion. I'm staying old school thoughh. I'm starting Mobile Police Patlabor (the OVA's). I'm curious to see what Mamoru Oshii was up to before Ghost in the Shell...

I think they all had different reasons to do it, and each Macross instalment deals with them at some level or another. Don't forget Sara and Myung. They sing too!

After reading your very informed and highly informative post, I am now inconsolable with grief at the prospect that I'll never get a MF with proper subs. And I think it would take me more than 8 years to master such a language. At least tell me that central anime's sub are all right!

But isn't it possible to get Macross stuff quite easily in those countries?? Or do you have to use the internet creatively like anyone else?

My 2 cents about EVA. I absolutely loved it in the sense that it provided me with a gripping, thrilling viewing experience. Whenever one chapter ended I wanted, absolutely needed to watch the next one. And when it was all over like almost everyone else I had to say WTF just happened?? And watched it all over again...And then watched E of E. 3 times... (Strangely enough prefer series ending). And yet I have to confess, I'm still not sure if I get it. I though I did, and then talking to other people or reading blogs by EVA superfreaks I realized that maybe I didn't. But you know what it doesn't matter. EVA is really a case of being a ride, not a destination. Just enjoy it. And if you don't, then just don't watch it.

Where did HG get the doe to make the Shadow Chronicles? Do the Robotech boxsets still sell big or what? I know that you can watch Robotech on itunes but I cannot imagine anyone who would want to 'pay' for the privilege of watching it on their ipod.

But then again, is it really that expensive to add subtitles? Isn't it more like they can't be bothered to do it? Here in Scandinavia almost all movies come with 4 sets or 5 sets of subtitles (even the cheapest bottom of the barrel movies, not only big selling blockbusters). Many region 4 dvd's come with subtitles in spanish, french, spanish plus english for hard of hearing. Bottom line> It's not that expensive.

Those are some amazin vids. I have to confess I got goosebumps when I saw Focker in full cry with Oboeteimasuka... Having said that I don't think they should do a remake. Macross should move forward and give us new content and new stories.

Had a Macross fan moment a couple of days ago actually. The cafeteria at my workplace offered a so called "Oriental Pineapple Salad". I of course passed on eating it and suggested to all my colleagues to do the same. Couldn't really explain the reason to them though

City 7's urban planning was quite shoddy one has to say. And all those eclectic buildings don't help a bit. At least it has lots of parks and green areas....

I really like Michael too. Poor guy got a raw deal from Milia and gets stuck with the worst tasks! Running around trying to protect an adolescent who doesn't want to be protected. Regarding Mylene's Meltran ears, at what point in the Macross canon did it become standard for Zentran/Meltran or those who descend from them to have these ears? As far as I can remember, in SDFM and DYRL the Zents have normal ears? At least Milia does... Anyway, it becomes a very useful tool in M7 and Frontier to see who is of mixed origin (Michel Blanc for instance)

I take it you don't buy then the whole "I'm worried about Gubaba" line from Basara? While in this episode I already get the feeling that Mylene is starting to feel attracted to Basara despite their creative differences, from Basara's side I feel its just plain affection for the little, cute kid in the band. It's not as if he needs to go around protecting Veffidas or Ray... Does anyone else feel that its a bit dated to have a radio with a tape recorder in the scene were the girl was doing aerobics to Fire Bomber?? I mean tapes!! Cd's had been around for ages when 7 was made. Gamlin is really feeling the hate for Basara at this point, even requesting to shoot him!! It'll be important to bear this in mind as the series continues and those two grow closer by the end.

In todays fanservice oriented anime that scene would have lasted 10 seconds, we would have seen plenty of black lace or pure white cotton panties followed by a massive scream of "iiieeeeee"!

That'd be sweet, although it seems totally unlikely! If they could at least consider having english subtitles on the japanese release, that would do it for me...But again unlikely. It's gonna be months before I see this movie...aaahhhhhh!!

Agree wholeheartedly. M7 is actually pretty good at giving you the story slooowllyy. There some misteries that actually never get answered at all, namely...

I don't believe that thinking Macross Plus is the best item in the Macross series makes you a casual fan. Rather I think that Macross Plus doesn't need a previous knowledge of Macross, like Frontier or Zero. It can be easily watched by anyone in one sitting (OVA or movie). And the reason why people who like Macross Plus can also be Robotech fans is simply that Plus is widely and legally available in DVD throughout the world. Hence its easily available unlike recent instalments which require one to either get them online or learn japanese. And I don't think many Robotech fans care about learning japanese...
