Looking forward to the art. There's nearly not enough Milia in the character art thread!! Thanks a lot for the offer. I actually did manage to hunt down a Macross Festival 95' raw which contains not only My Soul for You, but also Remember 16 and Totsukegi Love Heart. All voice/guitar only versions. Unfortunately its on an .mkv file so I haven't been able to split them up and into mp3 format yet... Hopefully will be able to watch episode 10 tomorrow...

We're up to episode 9. Episode 10 is due sometime this weekend. Enjoy the M7 marathon. Bomba!

Love your new avatar. As Milia herself would in her fantastic engrish: "What a body!"

Might give a whole new meaning to that very 80s term "boytoy"...

One could argue that Shinji is no more "a kid" than almost any character on NGE. By "a kid" I mean a relative emotional inmaturity on some level. I think that that's part of the genius of the story. You start out by thinking that Shinji is this scared, insecure kid in a world of tough, resolute people and by the end of the show you realize that almost everyone was as or even more emotionally stunted than he was. Regarding Asuka, she is a rather fascinating creature and its no coincidence that she's such an emblematic figure in the anime community. I mean she's got a whole lot more going on behind the scenes than your classic tsundere character. Just like Shinji you think you have her all worked out and at the end you really know little about her.

Whenever someone puts in doubt the credibility of Shinji being a babe magnet in Evangelion one must never forget the effect cleaning up has on the female psyche

I think a son of Milia and Max would have been a bit too much testosterone for the galaxy to handle...

So as part of the "MW rewatches M7 together thread" we can safely say that Kawamori doesn't reinvent the wheel with every installment of Macross. As you said it's "all connected"

Lucky... I got a polite stare after 15 minutes and a gentle "It's not really for me honey"...

I watched The Galaxy is Calling Me so long ago that I can't remember this explanation but it's actually pretty solid. Covers all the angles and can explain why Basara just pumps out more Chiba units that anyone else. Would have been cool to measure Ranks & Sheryl's Chiba sound units in M Frontier but I guess that concept was soon forgotten!

Just read volumes one and two a couple of weeks ago and should find time to read three in the next couple of days. While I can say that I like it so far, I have to say that it's so much of an alternate reality that it almost feels not like EVA at all. You've got to admit that having

What Current Anime Series Are You Watching? v2.0
Marzan replied to Duke Togo's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Definitely Klimt inspired. Picasso not so much. The art of the OP is in fact a bit reminiscent of the OP of Elfen Lied... -
It did take a LONG TIME for me to warm up to Planet Dance when I first watched M7. I kept on thinking: "There's so many other great Fire Bomber songs...why only use that one for the credits??!!" And then eventually I just found myself humming it constantly and playing on the car stereo (at high speed mind you. Planet Dance cannot be heard while stuck in traffic).

Just finished watching ep. 9, My thoughts on the episode... First of all, I had forgotten how professional Mylene was when it came to her performance as a member of Fire Bomber. Not only does she try to get gigs for the band as we saw in previous episodes, but she really places a lot of thought into her performances (which Basara criticizes). I found her short monologue about trying to avoid leading a "mayonnaise rice" and her contempt for slackers quite revealing. I wonder how much of that is a consequence of being the daughter of Max and Miria. I had also forgotten how Ray got really angry at Basara for making Mylene storm out of the bands session. I had this lasting impression of Ray being a completely unflappable guy, of whom you'd never get a reaction like that. It's also interesting to notice how he's the one person that Basara will absolutely listen too. We saw it first with the whole missile on the valkyrie affair and now with Basara chasing after Mylene as soon as Ray reacts angrily to their discussion. It just really shows that Basara is not as stubborn and mule headed an individual as we all seem to think. Keith has already remarked on how we finally get to know about Gepelnitch's (did I spell that right?!) Spiritia Farm project. I can remember how the first time I saw M7 I could absolutely not fathom what was going on and what Gepelnitch was planning. In that sense, I now realize that M7 is really well written, showing its cards little by little, and being rather more multilayered than just a "show about a guy flying a Valkyrie and singing" Finally, what's up with the rain inside of City 7?? Is it a way of getting rid of excess humidity accumulated by condensation?

Layne Staley was his name. Fantastic singer and lyricist, not only with Alice in Chains but also with Mad Season. A tragedy that he had to die the way he did...
-
Probably the latter...Specially considering that we know just how BOMBA is going to take over the galaxy Watching the episode later today if I can get the Mrs. to go stop fidgeting with my laptop!

Nope, never seen much less played. Have to confess that I'm completely out of the gaming world...

That's a very different take on the Valkyrie... Who's the Amazon?

Anyone up for episode 9 this weekend?

Let's not forget Legends of Galactic Heroes were the infantry have a go at each other with huge battleaxes. In space...

I was present once when 2 serious EVA superfanatics almost came to blows about the interpretation of that phrase I kid you not... I'm REALLY interested in seeing how Anno will end Rebuild of Evangelion.

I want that deck of cards!!

While I agree with Pete in that thanks to the internet there is now a market and a niche for almost every genre, I do think that NGE was something special in that it trascended the boundaries of what should have been its core audience. The way I see it, NGE, despite the fact that it is rather complicated for many people, is just such a well written story that if you happened to watch just one episode you were gripped by it and just had to know what was going on and how it was going to end. I really can't think of many other stories (in any medium) were you were so engrossed by the fascinating possibilities the the story suggested at almost any point. The very fact that there are still so many diverging interpretations on many of its aspects (Instrumentality, the nature of the EVA's, relationships between characters etc) just backs up how important it was. Another, albeit less important reason why NGE became so big, is that it really had a peculiar balance between serious content and then blatant fanservice. What was just a stroke of genius was that they actually acknowledged it in the preview for the next episodes! I can't recall anyone doing that before NGE.
