Macross Frontier Movie 1,YES it is subbed now edition
Marzan replied to sharky's topic in Movies and TV Series
Patience does seem to be in short supply in some quarters. In any case, I'm sure the wide world of internet and file sharing offers camrips galore if anyone wants it that bad. -
That does seem like a reasonable explanation. If anyone had the 'juice' to slap a ship onto City 7 without it appearing on official fleet roster it would have to be Max. But wouldn't it also mean that "Project M" would have to be 7 years in the making? Anyway, moving forward...episode 19 cries to be discussed and since no one has done an introductory write up, well, I might as well... Please pardon the quirky grammar A LIFE THREATENING DATE Can you say 'action packed'? This episode has tons of it. Sivil has found a Spiritia paradise in City 7 and is going about the business of feasting on the spiritia of its inhabitants (local fauna included). She also seems to have a rather unpleasant effect, in which she seems to make the Zentraedi inhabitants more agressive by her very presence on the ship. While this is going on, Basara is grudgingly participating at an interview in a tv studio whilst Gamlin ang Mylene are on a 'dayto'. At that moment a group of disgruntled Zentraedi attack City Hall and take Miria and good old Michael hostage. Gamlin in true Die Hard fashion informs the police that they're not up to the job of rescuing the mayor (since when are fighter pilots more capable than the SWAT units of a large city police force to take out armed terrorists in a hostage situation??), and start shooting his way through the building. While his fighting skills are remarkable, his judgment leaves a lot to be desired of, since he allows Mylene to tag along for the rescue effort. When matters are about to come to a head for Miria, Sivil rather conveniently drops in and sucks the spiritia out of the terrorists. Then just when she's about to feast on Gamlin, Miria and co., (and in a deus ex machina of massive proportions) she accidentaly turns on the transmission of Basara song-fighting the aliens outside the ship. Sivil then not only flies off to find Basara, but drives Gigil and the other aliens off when she does find them. Then of course she is unable to resist Basara's pure spiritia and once again flees... This episode has some little hints, that despite the seemingly flawless assimilation of the Zentraedi into human society, issues and a certain level of friction still persist that surfaces in some cases. In that sense, it reminded me a bit of Macross Plus and the dilemma that Guld faced when having to control some of his baser impulses in order to pilot. Questions... Why does the narrator at the beggining say that the M7 convoy encounters mecha which they had never encountered before? Why would Sivil ask Gigil to leave? If Basara's spiritia affects her so much, wouldn't it be better for her if he was to be eliminated. Or does she want Basara's spiritia all to herself?

Mononoke does show a more balanced view of children than some of Miyazaki's previous work that's true. I remember watching Mononoke in a film festival (in original japanese) and being very impressed by it. It was actually the first Miyazaki film I saw. Later when I bought the dvd, I was impressed to see that the dub version included the voices of several famous Hollywood actors. I really though at the time that it would start a new trend in dubbing, but I guess I was wrong as evidenced by this thread.

But wouldn't you say that Ghibli's success in the international market (they're the one studio whose products you can find in any music/dvd store around these parts) is very much tied to Miyazaki's fame? Whenever he goes, Ghibli will suffer as a result. Moreover, I'd add that Ghibli has the advantage (for the international market) that their films are accessible to children. For the vast majority of people outside the far east, anime still has the stigma of being "just a cartoon" which makes it uninteresting for many potential viewers. Ghibli doesn't have that problem since the majority of people going to Miyazaki's films in the west are parents with their children. Hence their success.

I agree. Particularly younger characters get absolutely terrible voices.

Maybe less anime is not actually a bad thing? The quality pool will be deeper and the quality of scripts/animation might improve as a result?

mmh, well it seems that everyone is one ahead of me, but I think we should at least give episode 18 a couple of lines. I mean it does have 1 or 2 rather cool moments. -City 7 is once again 'folded away' by the aliens after a short battle in space. The highlights of the battle are of course seeing Battle 7 ramming another ship and Gamlin taking Miria's classic red Valkyrie into combat. Seeing Miria' reaction to having her Valk damaged is absolutely priceless. -I don't know if some of you will agree with me, but isn't this kind of the episode were Basara and Fire Bomber trascend the "rock band with a Valkyrie" stage and become "rock stars"/heroes of City 7? -Anyone else wondering how come Akusho isn't on the fleet roster?? Wouldn't that be a monumental waste of resources (oxygen, energy etc). Maybe it's all for Basara's sake (since he isn't a fleet citizen either according to the narrator). Hope to catch up to 19 and get up to 20 in the weekend.

I didn't want to start a new thread just for a single question/so I think this fits best in this thread. I (finally!) got my Evangelion 1.11 Blu Ray today for which I'm unbelievably excited. Put it on just to check that everything is as it should and I'm glad to say that the visuals in full digital quality are astounding. Hope to watch it in its entirety this weekend if I can find the time I am however a bit confused. On the box of the 1.11 it states that the running time of the film is 97 minutes. On the box of my australian dvd release of 1.0 it states the running time as 98 minutes. I was under the impression that 1.11 was 3 minutes longer? I'm hoping its just a misprint on behalf of Manga and Funimation here in Europe. Of course I'll find out soon enough when I watch the film. But if anyone can explain this discrepancy to me before then I'd be most grateful.

It'd be "interesting" to hear a bit more about those role-playing activities...Anyway it's good to hear that you're catching up with the "MW rewatches M7 together thread"... Speaking of which, we've been a bit lazy haven't we? We should get to watching episode 18 soon

One of the meanest, baddest guys I've ever seen on film a gangster called Don played by Ben Kingsley in a movie called Sexy Beast. Watching it its almost impossible to believe that its the same guy who played Gandhi.
-
LOL. I think Helen Mirren is a bit too old to reprise the role she had in Excalibur. I hope they never, never dare to remake that movie. It's brilliant as it is and makes the best use of Carmina Burana in cinema ever.

It does take a looonnggg time to download Legend of Galactic Heroes. But boy is it worth it! -
If you get both ost 1 and 2 (Nyan FRO and Nyan TRA respectively) plus Nyan TAMA (the vocal collection) you'll have pretty much most of the music to be heard in the series. I have not seen the movie so I cannot comment on the use of series music in the film. But I do know that there's a mini-album out called Universal Bunny which is basically composed of Sheryl songs written for the film.
-
Yeah, I think so too! I'd love to see a Sheryl covers Macross kinda album.
-
Oops, forgot to post the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYO0OenfALQ Enjoy...
-
I like Sheryl's take Brother Spaceship better... I particularly enjoy hearing her say DECULTURE!
-
Is it inspired in SDFM? Or something later?
-
The one on the right is one strange looking Sharon Apple!

I think Misato got cheated on her burger. It seems to be lacking the top bun.

I've seen it quoted in a couple of sites that Akiko Kanagawa is the seiyu responsible for Sivil's voice. (She's also the flower girl as others have pointed out). Don't know how reliable their info is. And it doesn't explain why they put a question mark in the credits. Maybe its all to add to the mistery of the character? http://macross.anime.net/wiki/Sivil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akiko_Nakagawa http://myanimelist.net/people/749/Akiko_Nakagawa
-
There's such a thin line separating the two, isn't there? Nah, but seriously it get's more and more interesting as the series goes on. Many of your questions will be answered and some will not. Really glad you're enjoying it.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v3.0

Yeah, that's a great scene. It really brings to mind what a tremendous human achievement it was for man to reach space. Gainax really does the "manly tears" quite well. -
I'm sorry...that drill is just not big enough!
-
Goes to show that I'm a bit slow on the uptake But I still think Physica might have been the clingy type... Going from Physica to Gavil must have incredibly fun for the seiyu. But I'll keen my Gavil comments until he actually shows up.

Love that film! That early Gainax stuff is fantastic...
