  1. Does anyone know how much money the first film grossed overall in the box office and if that that has any impact on the dvd/blu ray release? (I do apologize if someone has already posted the overall box office earnings.)
  2. After finishing Planetes, I'm now watching some of the side stories to Legends of Galactic Heroes, more specifically the Mutineer and the Duelist. This is like the 4th of the side stories that have been released after the series ended I can't believe they've been able to make so many OVA's out of the LOGH franchise. The LOGH otaku in Japan must be really one really commited bunch!
  3. I can't believe he was 67! Rest in peace to one of the great voices of rock.
  4. Watched the film yesterday and it is pretty bad. Worst Ridley Scott film I've ever seen.
  5. mmh, I think there might be something missing. This new forum does all kind of funny things.
  6. Finished watching Planetes and was absolutely blown away. Wonderful show. Many thanks to all that recommended it on this thread. There are very few anime were the story was is so well written from beginning to end. No character is superfluous, and what one thinks might be a filler episode, actually becomes an important element to the overall storyline. And it's nice to see a show that strives to be scientifically accurate, yet does not burden with too many complex explanations.
  7. Is that his excellency, President of Frontier Howard Glass, being abused by a couple of tentacles in the background??? Now I've really seen it all.
  8. What? No "shipping wars"? What kind of a website are you trying to run here???
  9. Hint taken, so let's move on. Episode 20- Lady's Temptation An interesting episode on many levels, since in a way, it marks the introduction of some new aspects into the series and kind of revisits others. We go back to the very first venue were we saw Fire Bomber play in episode one. Only that this time there are a number of differences. Fire Bomber are now superstars in their own right and the concert is absolutely packed. This time it's not Max watching the concert but Miria, who's concerned for Mylene's wellbeing. Sivil shows off some more of her incredible powers by taking over Rex's body and using it to get closer to Basara. An absolutely unforgettable moment is when she climbs on the stage in front of a surprised audience and kisses a for once overwhelmed Basara. Moreover, if there were any doubts about Mylene's feelings for her co-singer one only has to see her reaction to the kiss and sly move to break it up. Meanwhile, in a galaxy far, far away, Lt. Docker and a group of pilots who have recovered from the first attacks, get to try out the new VF-19 ( I hope I got it right and if not I beg the mechamasters to forgive my sinful soul ) under the watchful eye of Max. They're not the only ones planning and scheming however, since we also get to see Gepelnitch and his cronies setting their sights on another Macross fleet. Back on City 7, a tired Basara once again goes out to face the enemy and receives considerable help from Gamlin, who while still highly critical of Basara's methods, is giving him a bit less hassle. On his return home, Basara is once again "hit on" by Rex/Sivil but of course instead of having his way with her, he takes his guitar and sings. True to form, Sivil cannot stand being in the presence of his song and flees, leaving behind a very confused Rex. The episode leaves a lot of things to ponder principal of which is Sivil's continuing fascination with Basara. It's also interesting to consider how much power does she have over a body she takes over? Could she have forced Rex's body to do something she wouldn't want to? Does Basara like Rex as suggested by his "We'll continue later" after the breakup of their kiss? Why does the director tease us so with those fine suggestive views of Rex's body? Why is Gepelnitch targeting another fleet instead of staying focusing on 7? I have many other questions but I'm very tired to write any more. Forgive the somewhat chaotic, unstructured and disorganized writeup...
  10. Now everyone is gonna rush out and get it
  11. What did you think of Gankutsuo? I ordered from an online shop because it was selling cheap and the Count of Montecristo is one my favourite novels. Moreover I heard that the art on it is really unique and the soundtrack was done by a former member of the Stranglers so I couldn't resist. Aquarion is a bit of a mixed bag really. I though the music and the designs of the Aquarion's were absolutely great. The story itself is interesting, but I found most of the characters to be a tad annoying. Then again my brother loved it so maybe it's just. By the way, I think that Kawamori actually created the series, not just the mecha.
  12. LOL Then again she might be o.k with it. Maybe Minmay is just cosplaying?
  13. Translations and proofreading can be quite expensive, so you have to be confident that your market i big enough to be worth the extra investment. Whilst translating and putting subtitles on for a 25 episode series might be a bit too risky, a two hour film should be doable. HG wouldn't be able to do anything to prevent Bandai from putting subtitles for a Japanese domestic release. You can just argue that it's for use of the large expat community living in Japan.
  14. Well I suppose if you play the game it comes in handy. Unfortunately a lot of the links from the page itself don't work, so it's hard to tell what the objective of this particular game is.
  15. I found the following blog that has a somewhat similar take to yours on Sivils motivation. Must warn though that it contains some SPOILERS so one might want to wait til after watching episode 20 before reading it! http://ghostlightning.wordpress.com/2009/03/12/sivil/
  16. Sounds good. I think some people might have already seen this episode but haven't written a review so please go right ahead.
  17. Solid gold. Grace and Leon doing Zero-G Love is absolutely priceless!
  18. Patlabor on TV is one my absolute favourite anime so you encourage even more to see Planetes through to the end.
  19. Is that a line of dialogue from a dubious dub or what?
  20. Based on the glowing reviews I've seen on this thread, I've started to watch Planetes. 2 episodes. So far, so good. It reminds me A LOT of Wings of Honneamise and I'm certainly pleased about the seriousness which with it takes its science. And the lack of moe or women with colossal busoms is actually pretty refreshing.
  21. This Minmay pic reminds me a lot of some images I've seen of Ishtar from Macross II. Maybe it's just that they're both Mikimoto designs. Anyway, those are some pictures you've contributed with.
  22. Welcome to the forum and nice first post! It'd be cool to see that 3rd piece you mentioned. You don't see too many pieces of art were Klan is human size yet in adult form (and with Michel at her side).
  23. Mmh correct if I'm wrong but there are no dubs of Southern Cross and Mospeada? ADV released them just with subs?
  24. Hmm, I'm not quite so sure about her wanting to experience human feelings. So far, she's been pretty consistent in seeing humans as nothing more than a source of spirita and sucking them dry of it. The only exception is of course Basara. Sivil seems at some level to hunger for Basara's incredible spiritia, but then when actually confronted with it, seems overwhelmed by the sensation it produces. I would argue that the effect of Basara's spiritia is physical, not emotional.
