Henry is an English name too, so why give a guy with a stereotypical Russian accent a name like that? I'm still interested in how they went from "Hikaru Ichiyo" to "Rick Hunter". I know he was "Rick Yamato" in the earlier dubs which still isn't that great, but at least they were keeping his Japanese ancestry intact.

Thank you VFTF1, I can sleep now. I have to say, this series has kinda rethink what I make music out to be - it's more than just a form of entertainment, its like a universal language that anybody can understand- whether your Zentradi, Protodeviln, Vajra, or whatever. I was thinking these singers are trying to understand what music really means to them beyond just fame and entertainment. Like trying to get the big picture on everything or a universal truth. I think the part in Macross 7 examplifies this when Basara goes on a journey to rediscover why he sings, and then Sivil takes him on a "trip" of the galaxy. And then he comes back enlightened and he is able to sing again because he's "seen it all". Macross 7 is a helluva drug!

Yeah I think I'll just go back to watching Robotech. This Macross stuff is just too philosphical.

Why do Minmay, Basara, Sheryl, Ranka, all the other Macross singers sing? Do they do it for others? Is it for themselves? Is it because they just CAN? ...I still don't get it.

Even if HG was out of the way, the music rights for subsequent macross sequels are supposed to be very expensive, and would be the next huge hurdle for bringing Macross over here.

Well, at least they'll have an excuse for why it doesn't resemble the "orginal show". Makes you wonder why they even purchased the rights to Robotech. It's not like its a really recognizable name like transformers. If they're going to have to build the movie from the ground up, they might as well have created an original brand for themselves instead.

I wouldn't mind seeing an OVA with the SDFM cast again. Like side stories on the character's backgrounds and stuff, like showing Hikaru learning how to fly from Focker or stories they never got around to animating in the show. I know the series was originally penned to be around 50 episodes so there's bound to be extra material for things like this.

Yeah the ship design in this show is silly. Is there a reason why the research ship looks like a pyramid, or that the farming ship looks like a flower? I think Gigil is like the best villian in the show. It's pretty clear he has different motives than the rest of the protodeviln early on, and the friction between him and Gepelwhatchamacallit is always funny to watch. He kinda like a certain ally killer...

I found an mp3 of the theme to the HG's old macross dub. I always thought that they used the Robotech theme for it, but I was wrong. HORRIBLY WRONG.

Where's from? It sounds a bit different from the normal opening.

At least the Macross gang were sorta recognizable in the Sentinels. They pretty much took the designs and westernized them.

Did the UN ever come clean with what happened to that ship? Because if the tabloid was supposed to be convincing it meant people still believed the Megaroad 01 was out there, but in Frontier Bilrer's looking for Minmay.

I just finished watching the whole show (thanks to this thread for getting me back into it). I thought I'd have to push myself to watch the whole thing, but it turned out to be a suprisingly entertaining series. Some of the eps are REALLY out there and the show even dips into super robot territory at times, but the music's great and so are the characters. Yes, I actually think Basara is cool now. Well, cooler than Alto at least.

I think its amazing how well the character and mecha designs from the show hold up in this day and age.

In the SK interview I posted in the news thread, he said there was going to be a resolution this time. Or maybe he's just trolling us again.

I never cared for Ranka either. I think it's the way she looks- in particular her hair. And her cheeks are too rosy. It's like she's constantly blushing. I like the sexy vs loli motif but man they could of come up with somthing better for her. She's too goofy looking to compete with someone like Sheryl.
