The Ultimate Macross Variable Fighter!
Sumdumgai replied to VF-7000 THUNDERHAWK's topic in Movies and TV Series
Silly me, mixed up pulse lasers and beam cannons again. But yeah, I meant it didn't have big kahuna guns. I would argue Guld had mental illness, whether it be actually truly mental, or biological based. He did something really bad and blanked out his memories for years all while having to take medication or else... Well. Something "bad" might happen. "Brainwave control system not implemented in VF-22 design due to test results on the YF-21 in the Super Nova competition." That's not very precise unfortunately. While it's just as possible that the BCS/BDI was not implemented due to the problems caused by Guld (mental illness or not), I would argue that if that were the case it would be for further testing. The problems were caused when he got super pissed to the point that he practically blacked out and when he lost focus and it picked up on stray thoughts. The stray thoughts thing would be worrying since that wasn't something restricted to Guld and mental illness/zentran rage (like menstrual rage, but for an entire race! ). Heaviest firepower without fast pack systems, I would say VB-6 Koenig Monster hands down. -

The VF-22 may not have beam cannons, but it has pulse lasers and carry carry at least two nukes. Who knows if they can add external mounts for even more reaction weaponry carnage? -

Guld was psychologically unstable, and during the Super Nova Project Millard suppressed Guld's medical test results. I have yet to read anywhere that the BCS/BDI was a failure. THe Macross compendium states in the YF-21 entry: "Irreparable damage of YF-21 prototype No. 2 with loss of pilot in subsequent battle with Ghost X-9 unmanned fighter over Macross City during the Sharon Apple Incident. YF-19 announced by UNAF as winning design 2041." YF-21 entry In the VF-22 entry it is stated: "Brainwave control system not implemented in VF-22 design due to test results on the YF-21 in the Super Nova competition. " VF-22 entry Which is not a statement that the BCS/BDI was a failure. BDI/BCS aside, the YF-21-type of variable fighter is the most superior to me for several reasons: 1) With the loss of its legs it can still fly in fighter mode. No other VF can do that. 2) It not only has one, but TWO gunpods, as well as lasers that can fire in EVERY mode (challenging the VF-4), has internally stored micro missile launchers, and an internal weapons palette (VF-22 only, not mentioned on the YF-21). 3) Pin-point Barrier system shared only with the 19 series. 4) Considering that as Captain and head of the M7 fleet, Max had the choice between the 19 and 22, he chose the 22. It says a lot to me. That Miria took a 22 as well... While I love the way the YF-19/VF-19A looks, with the forward swept wings, the fixed wingroot lasers kills it for me for armaments. Hip mounted lasers in battroid. Ouch. My choice of best variable fighters in order: YF-21/VF-22 VF-17 YF-19/VF-19A I am not taking into account the Macross Frontier variable fighters yet since we haven't seen enough of them yet. As for looks... VF-11 VF-14 ties with VF-4 VF-22 YF-19 -
Wow, that's way too much for that figure in my opinion. $50-60 I could see, but not that much.

For figures, if I like the way the figure looks, find the quality is good, and the price is alright, I want it. I don't even have to know the series or character. For mecha, I have to know the series. I pretty much only get Macross mecha, since no other series has really impressed me that much with the mecha.

ADV butchers things anyway. Better that Bandai Visual get it. At least when they release things they do so with quality.

Another vote for the YF-21 with BDI and BCS. Not the conventional controlled VF-22. While the VF-22 has internally stored gunpods, I feel that the BDI and BCS of the YF-21 would give any skilled pilot a massive edge over pilots of conventionally controlled fighters. -
Check out the Harmony Gold mega thread that's locked, in the Other sci fi and anime section of the forum. Lots to read through, but you'll get a good idea why ADV will not be bringing out M7 and M0 (thankfully).

Very interesting.

Sounds like you want something akin to one of the versions of Gal Force (?).

I liked Guillame/Gilliam better that Physica. It was a shame they killed him off so fast. I was starting to find him interesting. Ranka's probably traumatized for life. -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
Sumdumgai replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well in that picture, the 1/60 is standing with spread legs, shortening the height a little bit. The other two can't even spread their legs, and why does that sound so wrong? -
1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?

You could always use the old 1/60s for battle-damage, shot down valkyries. The legs already come off. Just take the legs off, partially transform them and toss them somewhere. -

Actually now that you mention it, it did seem kind of like the M41A or the beretta in Starship Troopers. It does seem to be oversized for a PDW. Those gears exo suits sure beat the hell out of those ejectable cockpits of the VF-11Cs... I'm sure the cockpits have a longer oxygen supply, but considering these mecha-bugs seem less concerned with draining spiritia as they are in killkillkill, I'd sure take the exo suit. -

I think of gravity control in terms of technology that causes gravity, not removes it. Hey, if it can remove gravity, awesome! -
What's wrong with my Yamato, Bandai, etc.

I don't have one, but I'm under the impression that it just hangs like a ball sack. -

I figure that gravity control would also put extra strain on the pilot during those high g maneuvers. It seems like it would be a superfluous system. I wonder what caliber gun Guillame was using when he ejected from the VF-25, and if it was meant to be anti-personnel or be used as a last resort against enemy mecha after having ejected. -
The legs sometimes have trouble attaching in fighter mode. At least one of mine did. Damned slider on the intake liked to come loose and unsecure at least one of the legs. I'd wait and see how the new 1/60s turn out. If the quality is anything like the 1/48s, you'll want to wait.

Yep, teaser trailer for Star Trek. I hope whatever is trashing the city in this movie, really trashes the hell out of the city and wreaks total havoc. Need a good giant monster movie.

How about an anime where you have a bunch of really generic annoying characters surrounding the main character who isn't annoying. The main character finally gets sick of all the retardedness that surrounds him and goes on a crusade to rid the world of stupid, starting with the annoying characters that surround him. But just killing them in a brutal nasty manner would be too simple, he has to trick them into killing themselves by their own stupidity. This idea comes from years of gritting my teeth while watching many anime series with annoying characters who just won't stop being annoying or die. Ooooor... some sick and twisted fantasy with school girls being tortured, and tentacles. Because deadghost is squeemish. Just joking. Although I am in the belief that everything is fair game in anime, even if I don't like it or absolutely hate it even. Well that goes for stories period. JsARCLIGHT's Buckaroo Banzai idea is a good one. Loved that movie ever since I saw it as a kid. I hated that they never made a second movie.

I'm going so I can watch the Star Trek teaser trailer. I do want to see the movie too, but that's just extra for me.

In my defense I was using it more as a descriptive, than putting it in the same group as the Original "chuny-munkies". The 1/65 M7 19s are big chunky deformed things. The only good thing are the locking chest mechanisms on the 19. The only thing that they have over the Yamato 19. Toynami MPC veritechs suck. It are a fact. Is not even valkyrie.

1/60 perfect transforming vf-1 from yamato?
Sumdumgai replied to Shaggydog's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
My guess is that for the 1D, all Yamato will be doing is 1) make a different canopy, 2) new heatshield, 3) new head. Everything else about the 1D is the same as the rest of the single seater VF-1s. If Yamato went with the same body as a VE/VT-1 it wouldn't be a VF-1 at all, and we'd pitchfork them for it. -
Uhm, two seater VF-1"s" as in the plural form. Not "two-seater VF-1S". Sorry for the confusion.
