  1. Finally finished her. The Imperial Japanese Navy Battleship Musashi. 1/350 scale from Tamiya. My first ship kit, and first real world build in quite a few years. I think the hardest part of the build was stringing those wires. Heated and pulled sprue technique. Got so frustrated at it, gave up after 3. But damn, they look nice!
  2. As long as it will hold a 1/72 Yellow Sub resin kit Valkyrie, work's for me.
  3. The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
  4. I'm not so interested in the Lancer, but if you can get that stand produced at a reasonable cost, I'm in.
  5. Thanks! That site looks like exactly what I need. Time to do a bit of studying. And, as promised, more blossoms. These are from near a park 2 subway stops away from where I live.
  6. OK, so I'm having fun with my entry level DSLR, Canon Eos Kiss X50 (Rebel T3 for those in America), but I want to do more with it. Be brave to take it off of auto mode! So, is there a one-stop site for beginning photography y'all can recommend? It may be an entry-level camera, but I know I can do more with it. Plus, in all these discussions about lenses, it's like a foreign language to me, so I'm hoping a lot of the terminology will be explained too. Thanks! Found some trees that are in peak bloom today. Pictures to follow.
  7. Wonder why the Phalanx is close to ï¿¥3000 more than the Defender or Tomahawk, since it looks like they're essentially the same kits. (from the waist down, at least)
  8. Did you hand brush those, or do you have an airbrush and compressor in your hotel room? And why have you been stuck there for 3 weeks??
  9. Found some new, better pictures of the kit. Made by a group called M.R.D.. I'd be a lot happier with it if it wasn't so angular. To my eye it's just too jagged and blocky.
  10. Past the peak blooming season, but there's still a few cherry blossoms to be found. I asked my wife if it was taboo to take that last shot, and she said it was OK, if you don't mind seeing ghosts in your photo.
  11. How about a Musashiya resin kit? Looks like the 4 holes are the correct ones.
  12. Well, you can't leave off there. You gotta tell us how you photographed her now!
  13. Just got a Canon Eos Kiss X50 Double Zoom kit. Still playing with it, but I like it. Go Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters! From where we were sitting, no zoom Full zoom on my 55-250 mm lens
  14. Interesting to see that even though the Yamato and Musashi were sister ships, the Yamato was much more heavily armed. What color gray did you use? Instructions called for Kure Arsenal gray, but I used Yukosuka Arsenal gray instead (since that's what I already had a lot of). Did a mix of hull red and Gundam red for the hull.
  15. Nice work. It's also nice to see the comparison to the Yellow Sub kit. Don't think I've ever seen them side-by-side anywhere.
  16. Hopefully it'll still be there in the first week of August, as that's the next time I'm getting down to Tokyo. Not much of a Gundam fan, but gotta see the 1:1 RX-78.
  17. Already up for auction. I've seen a lot of this guy's auctions, and he always offers at double the price as the kit was sold for.
  18. One of the eternal debates: Ozzy Black Sabbath http://youtu.be/9rihpED_obk or Ronnie James Dio Sabbath I like them both, but leaning more towards the Dio era.
  19. It's an after-market part. So were the gun barrels. The deck peice of the kit is marked like a wood deck, but I think the add on part makes it look so much better. The new barrels look nicer, too. They do offer a super, insanely detail parts set, but as I've never used these types of parts before, I didn't want to go crazy. Besides, that part set is more than the model itself! eh, I've only got 22 waiting to be built... it was a birthday present from my wife, anyway. Look for something called "flat base" that you can add to your paint. I know Mr. Color has that, think Tamiya does too. Add the recommended amount, gloss turns flat. Half the amount, semi-gloss.
  20. Never seen this one before. It says its a 1/3000 scale. Looks a little too blocky, though. EDIT: Same kit, different pictures, lower price
  21. It's been a long, but generally satisfying build. Never built a ship before, and this is the first real world subject I've built in quite a few years. Didn't go crazy with the option parts, just replaced the barrels, and the wood deck. Now, the main question is where I'm going to put this thing when I actually do finish it.
  22. A coat of paint, and a wood deck really make it look like I'm almost finished with the Musashi.
  23. Keith was just making point here, not telling a personal story http://youtu.be/dGOVbXF7Iog
  24. Awesome! I'll be watching and waiting for it.
  25. Nice work, Linus! I remember seeing some of your builds a while back on e2046. Nice to see you over here. However, I think you should be posting completed work in the Models thread. The Building/Customizing thread is if you're showing a work in progress. Is this the Yellow Sub kit? I've got a couple waiting to build. Picked them up cheap to see the differences between this and the Hasegawa. Plus, it's nice to tackle resin once in a while.
