  1. Yeah, I think they're casted in the color that they're supposed to be. I saw a bunch of these at the Volks shop here last month, thought about buying an Etna (from Disgaea) kit. Maybe I will, since I suck at doing figures, and this would be a good way to practice.
  2. I've got that one too, as a present from my wife. Going to do an alternate color scheme on that one, though. Which one, I have no clue yet!
  3. Nope, not for this one. I've only been using them for the 1/72 VF-1 line.
  4. at least you didn't add "in pieces, so I can see the inner bits".
  5. Soon to be kicking it Old School, with a couple of new school modifications.
  6. Finally finished! The 1/48 scale VF-19A Excalibur "SVF-569 Lightnings" kit from Hasegawa. I went with a darker shade of gray, mainly because when I went to the hobby shop to buy the paint, they were out of the correct shade. The original color was for various F-16's, and this shade is too, so no complaints. I think the darker shade looks nice, anyways. The biggest challenge was masking off the area between the black and gray, while keeping the line for the lightning bolt decal. Easy solution- make a photocopy of the decal sheet, lay down a long strip of tape, and cut out the decal with a razor while on the tape. Now you've got a masking template. As always, you can see more here.
  7. DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR SPRUES UNTIL YOU ARE 100% FINISHED WITH A KIT!!! There's been 3 or 4 kits where I've accidentally thrown out a small part because I was trying to tidy up my workspace a bit. Some people like to hang onto any unused parts from a kit- I don't. The only thing I save is any extra/unused decals. Always have a need for those.
  8. So, I guess I'll be the Lone Dissenting Voice, and still be uninterested in buying one. The underneath side of the nose cone is just too damn busy. And all the complaining about how fragile the pins and hinges are from their VF-25 line, well, it looks like that will be amped up to 11. And do we know if that's an actual pilot figure, or just another Timmy Torso?
  9. Found these from Tenjin-san's Twitter. CHERNO ALPHA: Stoic Russian Warrior. COYOTE TANGO: Giant Japanese Techno-Tyrant
  10. Painting tip- If you've got access to those disposable bamboo chopsticks, slap a piece of double-sided tape at the thick end, and you've got yourself a neat way to hold small parts while you're painting. also, as you can see in the pictures, if you take a cardboard box, cut it into strips, then tape the strips together, you get a place to put your stick while it dries.
  11. Check out the May issue of Dengeki Hobby.
  12. Painting- it's easy, if you remember this-cold goes on top of hot, but hot doesn't go on top of cold. Acrylics can be considered "cold". Clean up with water only. Easy to use, but not very durable. Enamel would be "medium". Little more durable, but also a little more dangerous, fume wise. Clean up with paint thinner. Lacquer would be the "hot". Very durable, but also the most dangerous fume wise. Definitely use an organic vapors respirator mask when airbrushing this! So, if you're painting with acrylic, only put acrylic on top of that. Enamel, use either enamel or acrylic. Lacquer, use whatever you want! I myself use Mr. Color pretty much exclusively, and that is a lacquer based paint. Doing the old-style wash, I'd use a very diluted flat black enamel. Did no harm to the original paint job. But, if you were to try and use that enamel on an acrylic paint job, be prepared for stripped paint and frustration. Hope that helps!!
  13. From Tenjin's Twitter:
  14. Actually, it's available as of yesterday! Guess I'll have to hit Kinokuniya over the weekend.
  15. So, to those living in Tokyo and Osaka, are they showing only the Japanese-dubbed version too? 'Cause that's all they're showing in Sapporo.
  16. How much would one be willing to spend on a Bandai Joke Machine, VF-1S Super? From a courtesy glance, looks like it's in pretty good shape, and in the original box.
  17. WARNING!!! While normal Hasegawa decals require 20-30 seconds in hot water to get loose, the Cartograph decals that usually come in the limited edition kits only take 5-10 seconds! Take care!!! (it was a wing decal that got a little wonky)
  18. Finally finished the airbrushing on my 1/48 VF-19. Now onto detail painting, and decals.
  19. The original "Shall We Dance?" is pretty good, too. Avoid the American remake!! And, try to get the Japanese version, instead of the export version. There's about 15-20 minutes of additional footage, and rearranged narration in the original version. Oh, and all the movies I've linked to on Amazon Japan come with English subtitles. As long as you've got a Region 2 or Region Free DVD player, go for it!
  20. Just saw Tenjin's tweet on it, and was getting ready to post; then saw the front page. If you can get his signature on a 3D poster, it is super-sweet!
  21. Available on the 26th. Bridge Bunnies ahoy!!!
  22. Nope, I did no masking on the cammo work. Actually, masking gives you a clearly defined edge, which is what you really don't want (in my opinion) for a cammo pattern.
