I get the impression it's supposed to be realistic cloning, not traditional sci-fi cloning. Born a baby, no memories. Hey, you got a better way to rebuild a species in a hurry? It makes perfect sense. And that DOES make sense? There were so many zentradi ships you couldn't see through the cloud. I'm suprised they weren't shooting EACH OTHER while bombarding the planet. The odds of any signifigant population of humans surviving were pretty slim. According to Macross Compendium, the survivors were either off-planet or in well-fortified areas(namely the incomplete Grand Cannons). Which makes sense given the scale of the bombardment. Is it just me or did the Grand Cannon totally kick some? I think it was underrated in the series. Minmay and the the Macross didn't win Space War I by themselves, it was also largely due to the awesome Grand Cannon.

imode, azrael - thanks for the info. Now thats an acronym! I wonder if Kawamori added the words that GERWALK stands for as an afterthought or at the same time as designating the intermediate mode as 'GERWALK'. That also means GERWALK should always be written in all caps I guess.

I was thinking about breaking it to her slowly by saying something like: 'there was this show I liked when I was a kid called 'robotech' and guess what??, its partly this japanese show called Macross and my friend lent me two or three volumes...I think I'll watch em..." Three months later I'll reveal my collection and say my friend gave it to me. what do you think? good plan? I don't want to come straight out and say I'm a drooling otaku over macross (which I kinda am) cuz shes japanese and you know what most young japanese females think of otaku, don't you? I think at the moment she has the impression that I'm cool or something and shes someone I definately want to try to stay with ...sometimes I think it pays not to be too honest.

Does anyone know the origin of the term 'Gerwalk'. I know that the Japlish can get pretty crazy in Macross sometimes (with Macbeth/Megaroad/Megaload etc) but what was Kawamori's influence to name the intermdiate mode between fighter and battloid, gerwalk? Does it have any English language origins?

My girlfriend doesn't know I like Macross. She said once she hates anime and otaku so I try to hide it from her so I've got my DVDs/games/toys/books etc packed away in the garage...they only come out when shes not around. She's got the same birthday as Minmay tho' (10.10). wierd.

Thanks, Azrael. Any more info? Was it by any chance included on the 20th anniversary DVD? Did it have a stand alone Japanese release? What was the running time and release year?

I'm thinking of buying the Japanese Macross TV DVDs and putting the Animeigo discs in the nice Japanese cases. Going too far?

I noticed a tape available in fansub circles called: "Macross: A Future Chronicle" What is this? Have I missed a critical volume in macross history?
