Considering this is only the resin prototype I think there's still a possibility that at the end we see the catapult bar. Only time -and Yamato- will tell.

I disagree. I think the landing gear isn't short at all, it's located very high in a nose con that drops a lot. Line art: Macross Mecha Manual

But they do know how to make proper non collapsing landing gears, which makes you question even more pertinent.
