  1. I probably should have said "...would want a Macross series"....as a Macross superfan, I'd probably "like" or "care" for anything Macross! ....but not sure if the casual fan would be so forgiving? I have no knowledge about cosplayers or cosplaying....but the only thing I can think of for cosplayers' choices in what to cosplay may have something to do with the ease/cost in cosplaying a character versus designing and building a battroid costume.....dunno
  2. I knew someone would mention those series..... But, yeah.....too borrow a term that I have heard all too much in recent days...."niche within a niche".... As far as I know Musicalture is not even available to view by anyone that did not make the original showdate(s?).....the only thing I can think of being more "Macross" niche than Musicalture would be an anatomically correct inflatable Ishtar doll! Anyway, perhaps stage and print are the only mediums where the standard Macross formula can "successfully" deviate.....I would still argue that in terms of a full-blown animated series (like the one we are all waiting for more info on), the standard music....love triangle....transforming mecha....is going to remain the go-to core concepts for any writers that will be involved with it's development.....and that suits me fine....it is Macross afterall... BTW...I have been on the hunt for the Argentine release of Macross Trash....so hearing that it is "OK" from another fan gives me some hope that I may like it.....
  3. Yes, you never did question Macross II's "Macross" standing....nor did I ever say you were somehow diminishing it's status as a true Macross show..... What I was pointing out was your assertion that a Macross show does not need to be "this or that".....when it actually does need to be "Macross-like" (regardless if it is ultimately a "good" or "bad" show, we expect certain things from a Macross show, which have been brought up before).....why else would you need to point out the fact that the Metal Siren is "Gundam-like", which by default means "un-Macross-like"....or as you pointed out that it seemed as it did not belong "in the same universe"......that universe being, assumingly, the "Macross Universe". Honestly, how many Macross fans would actually care for a Macross series with absolutely no transforming fighters?
  4. Guess you Canadians have it really bad.....if you do full disclosure on package value...you get hit harder on the import tax.....if you under-disclose the value and the item is either lost, damaged or stolen.....you would be limited to the declared value in terms of compensation..... First world problems....
  5. Since Arcadia has once again started using flip lids on their boxes....it would seem much easier for a seller to once again, at a minimum, visually inspect the toy for any obvious breakage and/or missing parts.....with that said....an unscrupulous company can potentially take advantage of this and "set aside" less than perfect samples to their SOL foreign clientele......
  6. That's fine.....and expected since you did not use a CC...went straight from your bank account to AmiAmi....with paypal serving as the "proxy".... basically, the issue will be if the damage occurred in transit or if the item left AmiAmi as damaged goods...which seems to be the case.... Paypal protects the buyer against receiving items "not as described".....Essentially, you need to let Paypal know that your purchase was for something "brand new" and it arrived "damaged".......with that said...AmiAmi will tell Paypal that the item was "fresh off the shipper's case" and to the best of their knowledge...it would not be expected to be "damaged"....that they acted with good intent.....they will then point out their "policy towards non-Japan buyers".....this may or may not sit to well with Paypal.......In fact, this draconian policy may be your best hope at Paypal siding with you...... At that point.....you are at the mercy of Paypal...they will either side with you or not....If not, they will most likely ask AmiAmi, in the interest of fairness to all, to accept the return (minus shipping costs) and refund you a partial payment........with that said...I do hope it would be more than 15 USD......honestly, if they do not want to accept the return, the refund should be at minimum 50%........If you receive close to that...you can probably sell for parts....especially the weapons, armor, etc..... Guess this may be a lesson to anyone considering buying from AmiAmi in the future.....if you get your cash back, then the risk may be worth it.....if not, time to shop elsewhere.... Good Luck!
  7. Did you buy it with paypal or a credit card....think it's time to take that route....you should be covered for damaged goods....just make sure you hold onto your shipping box and everything it came with in case they want proof that the damage was not via "shipping"......clearly it was not, but that is what paypal/CC will want to blame first...
  8. Agreed that "as long as it's good" is what really matters when all is said and done.... However, I do not think you can say you don't need Macross to be "like this or like that".....while complaining that a craft like the Metal Siren feels like it does not belong "in the same universe"......in short, Macross does need to be "Macross-like" and stick to what makes Macross....well....Macross Maybe the issue is that Macross to various fans is defined by their favorite show(s).......but, in general, the core of any Macross show are still....Music, transforming fighters, and love triangles......The weight each of these 3 components is given in any particular series, whether real or perceived, is what makes fans like one show over another.....
  9. To those that received damaged goods...did you contact your credit cards yet? Most cards have some sort of consumer protection against this sort of thing...or if paid through paypal....they should be able to help too....
  10. No reserve auction....let's see what it fetches: http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d151605762 MSRP....less?.....Or early VF-4 release days pricing all over again?
  11. Oh no...now your YF-19's are no longer MIBISSB..... May as well sell them both to Mandarake for less than 50% of what you paid for them!
  12. Bottom line is that most of the Macross concepts developed during and after Macross7 are what most Macross old schoolers find "wrong" with the franchise....It's not the Macross they grew up with... MacrossF had considerably less of it and thus was better received by that section of the fandom....basically it was less like M7, M0...and more like SDFM, DYRL, M+.....
  13. I think it would be difficult to ascertain whether or not someone else could or could not design great vfs...when no one else is being asked to do it....I don't think it is fair to say only Kawamori alone has that ability based on one show from the 90's...I think a lot of fans like those vf designs anyway...if not the show....again how can we know good vf designs can't be done by new designers if not given the opportunity....eventually it's going to need to happen for Macross to continue...
  14. The "look what I just snagged" thread stands at 23 pages and counting.....http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=40095 Answer is still NO..... 300 USD for a fully transforming Macross valkyrie? Merely an appetizer for some..... http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f137465319
  15. I think that is the problem...and it has been brought up several times in the past....nostalgia is a powerful aphrodisiac....that is why no new iterations of Macross will ever be "as good as the first time".... ....with that said....yes...a reboot may be the only hope for old-timers like us to "fall in love all over again with the franchise...or at least a new Macross series"......if done right and with respect to the the original source that we all know and love (Star Trek reboot comes to mind...the jury is still out on the new Star Wars)....I think Macross the First is doing a good job of mixing both the TV and DYRL elements.....the time displacement stuff is definitely "out there" but it is probably easier to swallow for most fans than most of Macross7..... Sure, they can add transforming mecha as native craft for the Protoculture...but why would the Protoculture need them? They have bio-engineered giants and monsters to fight their battles afterall.....Nah...the Protoculture needs to remain just barely out of reach of full explanation.....explain them too much and you start "tripping" into Macross Zero....... "How do you involve a guy like Kawamori in Macross while keeping him out of the script/story?"....Dunno ask the new Star Wars filmakers and how they are "controlling" Lucas' input on the new trilogy...sorry, had to pop in one more Star Wars reference for you!
  16. Agreed..."at this point"......Just like Lucas finally let go of his "baby"...eventually the Macross torch will also be passed from Kawamori to some other person or group.......MACROSS WILL ADVANCE...afterall......BW will not let it die with Kawamori....it'd be interesting if Kawamori is actually ready to do that now.....and it does get passed to some new talent starting with a reboot as the next series.....who knows.... A purely Protoculture-centered series will probably fail on merchandising alone.....isn't the Protoculture weapons and mecha essentially what we see as the Zentradi and Meltrandi...plus the Protodeviln......yeah, I do not see anyone rushing to get those "toys"...... Think it's too late for "no time travel"...that concept is out of the closet in the Macross universe and there is a chance it will continue to be exploited I'm afraid.....perhaps Macross has finally "jumped the shark"?
  17. http://www.fromjapan.co.jp/title/charge Seems you pay 200 JPY per transaction...800 max if you win multiple items from the same seller.... Plus the standard fees such as domestic delivery and possible bank charges..... It seems you will also pay 5% of the winning bid if you do not pay using their "FJ points" system.....like if you pay using paypal for example....so even if you opt to use their FJ points...you will still need to pay (add to the total cost of your final payment) some type of wire transfer fee from your bank to theirs (From Japan proxy).....no idea what that fee is like...can't recall when I last did a wire transfer...if ever....
  18. Are the old fold booster mounting pieces not compatible with the new -19 attachment points? The different "greens" clash.....they can be painted to match I guess... I also like the clear helmet on the old yang figure....has anyone checked to see if the old Yang fig fits into the seat of the new -19?
  19. The Protoculture can easily be introduced into a future storyline based on how the Macross universe in general has evolved.....especially concepts from Macross30 and Macross the First storylines....in short....introduce time travel/displacement into a franchise and anything becomes possible....
  20. Nah...."claim" would not work here for Daryl because Rick and his group were already "claimed", those guys were out for revenge.....as I had previously posted, that crew had run it's course and they had to be eliminated......the way it was done was also a big clue of what's to come.....
  21. Misa cel - SDFM: 300,000 JPY Congrats to the lucky new owner of this one-of-a-kind piece of Macross history! http://page6.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/f137465319
  22. Dunno....but the group Daryl is currently with insinuated that they knew better about Terminus.....I'm thinking maybe their leader escaped from there....with that said, my first question would have been why is Terminus not what it seems....but I'm guessing the writers will not have Daryl ask that (because then "we" would know way sooner than we should).....Since Daryl's group knows about Terminus....they will not be able to enter it as a group.....if they cannot enter it, they basically need to be eliminated from the story and thus allowing Daryl to enter either alone or with Rick, Michonne, and Carl after some shootout with them, or better yet...saved once again by Carol (and Tyreese)......guessing they will make it in together towards the end.....met by the rest of their crew seemingly being treated well and feeling "hopeful again"....maybe the show ends with something ominous like a piece of Beth's blood-stain clothes or maybe something way more vile (guessing this would make for a way better cliffhanger) ......oh, and I'm guessing it will be Michonne who makes the "discovery"....she is that last one to trust anyone/anyplace and I am thinking she will connect the dots with the "defiled art" she saw inside the house a few episodes ago....
