History of Major VF-1 "reboots" since the release of the original VF-1..... 1982---Takatoku 1/55 VF-1 2001---Yamato 1/60 VF-1 v1 2002---Yamato 1/48 VF-1 2008---Yamato 1/60 VF-1 v2 If you remove the 1/48.....we are currently past due for a v3 of the VF-1 in the now widely accepted 1/60-DX scale...... Who will deliver the Version 3? Who do you want to release the next generation Kanzen Henkei VF-1? More importantly, is your wallet ready?

So did the Gnerl you created follow the specs of the lineart or does it's scale work around your estimation of an "average" Zentran's size? I do not think the "average-sized" Zentran is bigger than a VF-1 Battroid. It would make no strategic sense for the VF-1 to have been designed to be "equal" in height to the average enemy soldier. You would want it to be superior in size so it would have the advantage in potential "hand-to-hand" combat situations. I am sure you are familiar with the available scale lineart.... I think the problem is that there is no "one size fits all" Zentran/Meltran. It does not help that there is no canonical explanation for the wide variation in sizes between Zentrans/Meltrans. However, based on what information does exist and what we can see on film and other media, it is logical to assume that as "biological weapons", the Protoculture probably created the variations in their sizes to fit the need on the battlefield. Thus, although there is an "average" size for both Zentrans and Meltrans in general....it would be incorrect to use that average-sized Zentran/Meltran to "make it fit" into any given mech. Each mech seems to be able to accommodate a certain range size of pilot, thus the "average" would then be for just the specific mech in question. So basically, the average pilot sizes would likely be different for the Glaug, Reguld, Queadluun Rau, Nousjadeul-Ger, and the Gnerl....among others. Especially when it comes to a kit, where precision and accuracy is more important, it is just best to create it according to all of the available specs for the mecha...and then build the pilot to fit into the mech without thinking about "general" average sizing for it, but instead average size for that specific mech. I assume that is what you did for the Gnerl and that is why it looks so much larger than the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1. In other words, your Gnerl is true 1/72 scale, correct?

Until recently, Bandai has not really been that into releasing too much info on what they are up to....so the lack of news is not too concerning to me. If it is released, it makes sense for it to be the big showcase item for the 35th anniversary of SDFM/DYRL....which means we may still need to wait until next year. However, it could possibly just be the item that Bandai is using to see what they can incorporate into their eventual release of an all-new take on a DX-scaled VF-1. So unlike Yamato, they could simply skip the release of their "1/48 VF-1" and go straight to the 1/60-ish DX using and incorporating all they learned from their 1/35 proto. Still, I would prefer a 1/35 VF-1 to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of SDFM.....and then have them scale it down into a DX 1/60-ish version in about 2-3 years.

Remember when.... Yamato's BK lead to panic.....panic lead to panic buying.....panic buying lead to a quick surge of demand v supply.....quick surge of demand v supply lead to high market prices... And now.... Hope leads to panic...panic leads to panic selling....panic selling leads to more supply v demand......more supply v demand leads to falling market prices..... This all has repeated itself before, back when everyone thought there would never be anymore chunky monkeys.....prices for 1/55 Takatoku and Hi-Metal Bandai Valks were higher than anything we have seen today for the most expensive Yamato valks....and that was late 80's, early 90's money! Then Yamato's V1 came out and Bandai re-released several of the "grail" Takatoku VF-1's...better than ever! The market pretty much crashed for vintage 1/55...or more correctly put, the market for vintage Macross self-corrected....and the current Yamato/Arcadia VF-1 market will eventually crash too....that market seems to be self-correcting right now... However..... There is always something bigger and better in the horizon....no doubt we will see another interpretation of the venerable VF-1...maybe bigger....but surely better than what has come before it....it has already happened 3 significant times, in the DX scale that has become the standard for VF-1's, since the 1/55 first debuted 35 years ago.....the question is....when will the often prophesied Bandai DX VF-1 make it's debut?.....Is Arcadia trying to squeeze out the last few bucks out of it's old V2 VF-1 mold before Bandai shocks and awes all of us? Or is it possible that Arcadia will crash the aftermarket of it's own products with a V3 VF-1? They already did that twice with the introduction of the 1/48 (which did in the VF-1 V1) and the 1/60 V2 (which killed the aftermarket of the 1/48)......so it wouldn't be anything new for Yamato/Arcadia... There's been an awakening....have you felt it?

Chain Bases for Hangars are going to be your best bet at the moment. However, they seem to be discontinued. You will need to stack them to accommodate the 1/60 in battroid mode (to some extent in fighter mode too). There are some KO chain bases out there, but I have not used any so I am not sure if they are any different from the official Chain Base branded stuff. As for accessories for your diorama.....several members have made 1/60 accessories in the past. At the moment there doesn't seem to be much of a selection...perhaps on shapeways? Accessories for your hangar in 1/60 via retail are non-existant....however, there are several available in 1/72 and IMO they scale very well with the Bandai and Yamato/Arcadia 1/60-ish VF's and mechs. At the moment, it seem Hobby Master has re-released several of their air support accessories.....search here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.A0.H0.Xhobby+Master+HD.TRS2&_nkw=hobby+Master+HD&_sacat=0 Unfortunately, it seems that they have not included the extras that were packaged with earlier releases, such as the tow truck drivers. If you keep an eye out or do some searching on the web....there is another company called H-How Toys that makes a few nice 1/72 accessories that work well with 1/60 Macross toys. Another vendor is called Rabbit Club, but I have not seen any in a while. Most of these seem to be "copies" of the original Hasegawa kits of the same models....and those kits are readily available on ebay and the web....if you have the skills, time and patience...you can have a ton of nice accessories for your hangar. Here is an old post were you can see some the items from these vendors.... http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/topic/34339-macross-collection-display-thread/?do=findComment&comment=1190492 Here are some of the items I have mentioned used in my own hangar displays....

Interesting....I only have the exclusive "stealth" GBP and it seems pretty stiff and solid....I like the stocky bruiser look it has... ....the only fail on it is the exposed "backside"... If you really plan on selling your GBP's send me an IM with your asking price.....

.......of course.....the 1/35th Anniversary VF-1 Ultra DX could simply turn out to be no more than a great pumpkin!

No....always in motion the future is....especially when it concerns Bandai Macross.... Who could have predicted a Messer VF-1S SDFM 35th Anniversary HMR? Still.....why release it now as a first salvo in the SDFM/DYRL 35th annivetsary 2 year long merchandising party? Makes some sense especially if you want to save the best and biggest to close out the celebrations...

Do they own a 1/60 valk that they could pose next to the Gnerl? I am sure the sizing specs are correct to the lineart....but it just looks too big next to the 1/72 valk.....may actually look better next to a 1/60...more "anime scale" accurate perhaps.... A 1/100 would be perfect.....especially for HMR fans
