This has probably been asked befor or discussed in annother post but I couldn't find info on it. The YF-19 has forward swerpt wings but can also reverse this and be swept all the way back, I think this is only seen once in the anime. Anyway what is the reason, advantage it can do this, Does this allow it to go at maximum speed or something? What is the reasons and advantages and disadvantages for this?

I think you're having the same problem as the rest of us except you're focusing on Shogun vs. Last Samurai aspect. The fact is the sympathetic westerner hero moves in with the foreigners (or the Amesh) and becomes their only hope while discovering himself is finally getting old. Audience are familiar enough with other cultures where they don't need a guide thru a story. While some are done well still, like this one, a lot of it is going to reflect on one another. Also if you enjoyed Gladiator and wasn't troubled by the fact it was similar to Ben-Hur and Spartacus (assuming you saw the latter 2) then this is probably more of the same thing. Yeah, your probably right, it's just that in this case shogun is my fav book. I'm shure i'll enjoy The Last Smaurai as well tho!

No, way different. The primary theme of this film is the Meiji Restoration, and the waning days of the Samurai, and their control over the Emporer. Prior to the events in this film, Japan was ruled by the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the Daimyo, in essence, the Samurai class ruled Japan right up until Meiji came to power. Shogun is set nearly two hundred years before the Meiji Restoration, when the Samurai influence was absolute, and Japan was little more than several small countries ruled by individual Shogun. While it deals with a similar setting (east vs west) it is really more of an observation of how Blackthorne saw and tried to adapt to Japanese culture. Shogun BTW is based on the life of William Adams, shipwrecked in Japan in 1600. He had managed to impress Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu with his seafaring knowledge and was made an honorary Samurai and granted a large estate. In terms of what the character go througth, i.e. adapting to Japanese culture etc love stories are there any similarities between Shogun and The Last Samurai?. I've purposly tried to not to find out much about The Last Samurai so it is all new when I go to see it but from what I have seen, these character themes and story's are what seemed similar to me (not the setting and historical aspects), is this the case or did you find it quite original? Also have you read/seen Shogun and seen The Last Samurai, if so which did you refer and why? cheers!

Still undecided about this film. Sometimes don't like Cruise, sometime think he's really good. The thing for me is the film sounds like a rip off of the book Shogun by James Clavell. The plot sound very similar but it's not about an american war hero and is set, I think, in an earlier time in Japans history. I'm not going to go into detail about the plot but a lot of the main themes sound very similar and Shogun is my fav book and fairly reently the the 11 hour odd tv series was released on DVD which I plan to get. Now i'm definetly going to go see The Last Samurai and may love, we'll have to wait and see....

Althougth it maybe a bit cheesy for some I would love some vf-1 to show up and kick some serious ass! It would be good to see the VF-1 as the No 1 kick as plane in a series again, even if it is only in the last episode.

I'm planning on building a basic computer 3d model of a VF-1 or a YF-19 (just the fighter mode), was going to do the YF-19 but still a real beginer might go for something easier. What I need is a perfect top down digram, a view exactly from the right and a view exactly from the front of the planes. I'm planning on drawing these myselfs to use as refrenecse but if anyone has any pics that matches this description or has any of the toys and can take some photo's from these angle I can then draw and work from this would be a great help to me. Thanks, any questions let me know. Also any hints or tips, links or even some examples or good tools to use would be very helpful. Thanks to everyone!

I'd like to see something new in the future after macross 7, I wouldn't object to seeing some of the existing characters i.e Max, Isamu, Hiakaru but I want to see some new Valks! As much as I would also love to see some of the history filled in I feel it can restrict the creators in terms of designs and story and can also mix up the timeline/continuity etc.

I'm just wondering when people voted for the VF-1 what was there reason? I mean was it because it was in your fav series or you just thought it looked the best etc?

so, there is a chance we see a VF1 in the M0 ep.3 ? (I haven't seen any M0 ep yet. Going to buy the DVDs swhen the three are availlable.) So, about toys : there is two VF1 versions : - TV series - DYRL - maybe a M0 version? If yes, it should be a VF0 (<- lol) 1/48 as well? I just wonder how technically, for a toy, they will do for the length of the nose. have you seen this nose? Bloody long. Good luck ! Yes , it is fairly possible that we´ll see the VF-1 by the end of this 5 epsiode OVA series . If we do see the VF-1 I doubt we´ll see the same VF-1 we are used to (they changed the design a bit for DYRL , why wouldn´t they chage it for M0 ?). I´m hoping they go with 1/60 for the M0 toys as the perfect edition toy (ala 1/48) , in addition to a 1/72 mass production toy line. If they just release one line though I would want it to be 1/60. I'd love to see an updated VF-1. Althougth most would probably prefer to see it unchanged I think a modern perspective would be great to see. Also I think seeing it done CGI would be intresting.

yep I know what you mean. I know that the VF-1 is the most loved valk but personaly to me the VF-0 looks much better than the VF-1. As somone said it's just that it was designed 20 years later.

Anyone know if Yamato or Bandai or anyone is planning any VF-0 toys?

Actually after looking at some pics of the VF-11 I think that is probably my fav valk now. To bad theres not to much about it knocking around.

I went for the 21/21. For ages I liked the 19 best, it's almost like I got bored of it tho, don't know why maybe i'll go back the 19 someday. Anyone else think it's a bit odd that, in regards to macross plus, the 19 was pushed tot he forefront in advertising/representing the show. I.e it's much easier to find posters and the 19 toys always seem fought after and the 19 was on one of the covers but int he show and movie it seem the 21 is pushed tot he forfront. Althougth are some excelent scenes of the 19 it seems more time was spent in showing the YF-21 dodging the missles or when we see the 21 fight the ghost. It just seems to outshine the 19. just an observation.

Sorry for the confusion. Basically if your fav plane is the YF-19 but hate all the VF-19 then would still vote for the 19 opyion, you don't have to like them all. I just know some peole prefer the VF versions because of the colour schemes.

Ok so the past polls have been about performance etc and both have been pretty close althougth the 21/22's seem to have taken it (at the moment, the VF-19 is only one vote behind the VF-22 tho). So this one is much simpler and there is no right or wrong answer as it is your opinion. Which one do you think looks better?! I know there are different designs for the different versions of the VF-19's (different wings) etc and different colour schems but bascially they are the same. So which is your fav? any of the 19's or the 21/22's? And no theire isn't an 'equal' option so you have to decide!.

Well I suppose you could argue that one of the reasons the vf-22 was given to the speciall operations was not because it was superior (or inferior) but because the enemy had no experience against it. Obviously the more you fight against planes the more you learn about them them and the more you know. Also in training you learn about the planes you are going up against and thier capabilities, so in this case the enemy would know loads more and be more experienced against the VF-19's. So for the elite rather than designing and buliding a brand new plane which would take time and money they already had all the information and data for the YF-21 so it was a obvious choice. When coming up against the VF-22's the enemy wouldn't not know anything about it and seeing as only small groups will be getting the VF-22 the enemy will not have much time to learn giving the VF-22's a big advantage which is why they were chosen to be given to the elite and used for special operations. Plus the VF-22 does have a superiror stealth system ideal for the kind of missions it will be undertaking. Plus you could argue that they wouldn't have chosen an inferior plane to be thier main fighter, especially ig it is going to be your main line of defence and your whole civilsation might deppend on it at some point, espcially as I don't remeber (could be very wrong tho) that UN spacy had any money/bidget problems. It has been said that the Yf-21 was destroyed but didn't some one say there was another yf-21 with normal controls?. Plus all the test data schematis etc for the plane would still all be intact which is where they would have built the plane from. Some people also argue about the YF-21 being too expensive, then why was it tested in the first place? The YF-21 was one out of only two contenders so the budget of the plan must have already been taken into consideration before testing.As I asiad I don't think there have been too many problems with UN Spacy's budget. Of course I don't neccersarily agree with all this but i'm just putting some arguments out for how you could argue the YF-19 was the better or equal plane and why certain choice were made or not made.

If you watch the battle in episode four, it's quite clear that Guld is the better pilot. While Isamu wasted ammo and made very few shots connect, Guld bided his time forcing Isamu to expend his ammo, while carfully removing Isamu's fixed weapons (blowing off his fast packs, stealing his gunpod and even nocking his head laser off). Only after Isamu was rendered virtually defenseless did he try to deliver a killing blow with his micro missiles. But you could argue that althougth both Guld and Isamu were really pissed at each other it was only Guld who was fighting to the death and tring to kill Isamu. isamu knewing the truth had no desire to kill Guld. Plus it would have been Isamu who won the fight. Guld put all his eggs into one basket so to speak and failed. If Isamu had wanted to kill him he could have blwon guld sky high ater Guld thougth he was succesful.

Why does everyone assume Isamu was the better pilot? I'm not saying I disagree with this but it is no where explixitly stated he is a better pilot than Guld? Is it just the fact that he is seen showing off at the begining of plus and he does better than the tests? Rather than people assuming that in practice, not theory, the YF-19 everyone assumes that he is the better pilot? Anyone else have any other reasons?

Well it seems in the last poll the YF-21 came out on top over the YF-19 and maybe this poll is redundant but someone suggested that the VF-19 vs the VF-22 would be a better comparison as they are more equal. So, althougth in the series the VF-22 becam the 'elite' plane which do YOU think is better and why. No need to repeat what has been said on other posts about the debates about certain things, just why you think it is better and any reasons? Pro's and cons of each plane?
