Variable Fighter Master File VF-19 Excalibur
Mommar replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
This isn't necessarily related to the VF-19 but it does have to do with something I saw in the book the other night and started pondering. After looking at the pic of the two VF-17's flying in low-light on page 55 I can't help but feel that particular fighter would have existed at a time far closer to when the original VF's were issued. It makes sense they would attempt to fit the OverTechnology to existing designs, even if they didn't perform quite like the VF-17's in Macross already, it seems to me there would have been an attempt to create a bomber at the same time as the fighter's were being produced. -
I got a VF-0A at the last HLJ sale and it was definitely the re-release with the new box a la m0n5t3r's post earlier up. Is it worth it? Well, depends on how much you like the design I suppose. I personally feel it's a little rickety compared to some of the other VF's Yamato has made. It's my second least favorite 1/60 just ahead of the horribly floppy YF-19.

$300? Nope. Not going to buy it. Not for a color scheme I truly despise and I hate to say it but not for any of the others as well. It's too high and I refuse.

Yeah, that's pretty much a line-art problem. I suppose it could be possible to include a mechanism that allows you to push that portion down so it sits flush with the nose however considering the size of the parts you're working with right there it would be a mechanical nightmare to produce and/or would make the thing brittle beyond belief.

...wow. I hope you've got a way to take super high-quality photos because I'm going to be begging for LOTS of them when you're done.

It's impressive however all I can think is if somebody trips there's going to be an awful lot of broken Valks in one place!

Maybe these things aren't quite transformed right for the pics and they're only here for a general idea? Like if they weren't completely finished maybe some of the transforming mechanisms don't exist yet? Super wishful thinking? -

I don't know if I'd call it Transformers-esque but I can say that after seeing this toy in Gerwalk I'm not interested in it anymore. Though to be fair all of the Mac F Valks have a bit of the big-ass syndrome, this is pretty ridiculous looking though. -

Gerwalk based on the images from the animation looks cool. Gerwalk on this toy looks ginormous and silly. -
It's too bad this is all happening now. Flightpose used to be full of praise and I really wanted to get some for my Valks. Now? No way in hell I'd attempt to order these things until I know they won't destroy my toys.

it really wouldn't be accurate to call it that either. There are other differences to the "The First" version aside from just the Prometheus and Daedalus that would make using purely the DYRL version inaccurate as well.

I've never heard of that but I don't do anything related to the US Postal Service. They're incompetent at best. I do everything UPS or Fed Ex, even if it costs me more, because I've never had major problems that haven't been quickly fixed after an angry phone call.

Having a few VF pistols around would be pretty cool actually.

Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Space Wing
Mommar replied to Talos's topic in Movies and TV Series
I finally got my copy in the mail today, along with the first VF-1 book and the VF-19 book. I've seen some of the pics in other posts and on the web but I'm honestly disappointed with the quality of all of them. I realize they're renders being put over real world pics and need to fit in but it looks like all of the pictures were "taken" in a haze on a cloudy day. You can't even make out a lot of the details because they're too dark/blurry. I particularly like the VF-19 pic of the fleet with fast packs hovering over the carrier around what looks like earth... or I would, if it weren't so fartING dark. I understand space is actually dark but pretend like you took the photo while they were all facing a light source so we can see more detail. Plus, hardly any Gerwalk/Battroid. The concept for these books is cool however I feel they're lacking in execution. Actually, they should hire our own danbickell or tipatat because their homegrown models of the VF-1's are better than in these books. -
I check this thread over and over daily hoping to see any status updates to this project.

Nice full page pic of the VF-29 in Gerwalk. I really do love the way it looks in that mode. Depending on how good the toy is I might be persuaded to buy my first Bandai VF.
-
Considering the picture of the toy is taken from a higher angle and the legs are turned back there's no real way to make a fair comparison about the size of the feet in the drawing you posted versus how the toy looks. From that vantage more of the foot is obscured, therefore it will look smaller... and what's the the foot fetish on this board anyway?

Other thank the wonky-ass engines on the wings I'm actually really feeling that Gerwalk mode.
-
I want one (or seven.. let's be honest) of these things in non-horrible colors so badly.
-
I'd buy that over the red and yellow one. But only if it came with a "Fabulous" plaque.
-
Release it in black, I prefer it to that bright orange.
-
I used to like the 171 more than the 17 but the more I look at the two side-by-side the more I'm digging the chunkiness of the 17, especially the Battroid. The Gerwalk is especially weak on both modes (imo) which is usually my favorite mode, so there's no tie breaker there for me. The Fighter mode of the 17 also more closely resembles a real-world fighter which is also a plus to me personally.
-
Yeah, the SDF-1 sold well. Go figure, make a rock solid product and fans will buy it... the Monster would be no different and it's my favorite Destroid.

This is pretty amazing so far. I can't wait to see this thing finished.
