Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Two different things. Star Trek 2 is still considered the best film in the series by most Star Trek fans. That had action but it was done in a tactful and thoughtful way, it also had a morality play and a lot of other stuff from the original series. The new Star Trek has a lot of dumb action that is more in the vein of Star Wars, and goes on about idiotic mysterious destiny and crap like that. I don't think anybody in the fandom is opposed to action, they're opposed to making Star Trek something that it isn't.- 466 replies

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Mommar replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh man, I forgot to pre-order. Bet I can't get one now. -
I do find it amusing how much unanimous praise this version is getting over Arcadia's.
-
So they had to pick the week AFTER I'm off work for the pre-orders to start.

Star Trek Beyond (the not The Search for Spock)
Mommar replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The reasoning for Justin Lin is retarded too, they want the movie to be more like Guardians of the Galaxy... so more f.u.c.k.i.n.g. Star Wars and NOT Star Trek. At least after Into Stupid came out Orci had said he wanted a harder Sci-Fi Star Trek(whether that was true or not I don't know.) Obviously he was overridden, so might as well step into producer mode and make some money off the next wreck.- 466 replies

I don't know. Was just curious. I'm not defending the wrong color, I'm disappointed it's changed from the correct color to something off. I don't know much about how factories work so I thought I'd ask about that.
-
Don't they also own their own factories where knowledge like that could be a mandatory requirement for workers as opposed to renting factory space and having to deal with whoever works there like Arcadia has to?

Hey Man, are we going to get some Merry Christmas SDF-1 Cruiser pics?

... you must not know what singing is, just because she can belt out high notes doesn't mean she can't or isn't singing. You may not like the sound of her voice but she's not yelling, that's a pretty classically trained high note she's hitting and sustaining, and it's impressive. Even the way she holds/moves her jaw is indicative of someone who has had massive amounts of training, and except for the exceptionally high note after the bridge she's making it look virtually effortless... not the sign of someone who is yelling.

I may not like Frozen (and according to my brother it means I have a cold, dead heart... which I maintain is in keeping the title of the movie) however I can't deny Idina Menzel has a rather incredible voice. I also find it amusing every time that part of the movie comes on my little niece tries as hard as she can to sing along.

I'll bet you're right, the factory guys don't know what they're doing. Obviously Arcadia had it right so they know what they were going for. Even though this is the "final" production model that doesn't mean they can't get back to the factory and ask them why they can't figure out the saturation... hopefully, anyway. It's not a bad color as is, but disappointing after the corrected photoshop pics.

No saggy neck though.

This is all lame whining. Everything you want explained was done in other materials that weren't part of the films. Nowhere did they explain opening the wings helped the lasers converge or dissipation of heat in the movies. That was all EU stuff... which doesn't count anymore (if it ever did) anyway. So the original handwave isn't even a handwave.

It's a joke based on how many years it took them to re-release the Ozma 25 already.
-
You keep talking about it like it's some sort of personal ego trip for some guy who designed the new X-Wing rather than "we need tweaks to these older designs, come up with stuff and we'll pick the best looking one." As a matter of fact I just gave you the handwave, they needed something new but not for marketing and this is what they settled on.

So here's the two main reasons they changed the X-Wing. 1) It's thirty years later and if they used the exact same design people would think they were being lazy, they would want to know why there weren't new fighters but if they completely removed the most iconic fighter for something new people wouldn't like that either because most people only say they want "change" when reality they want something very similar/familiar... which this will be. 2) Merchandising, now they have a NEW X-Wing to sell (Hasbro/Lego/etc...) If it looked like the old X-Wing nobody would need the new Lego kit. It still fits the Lucas parameter for Star Wars to a T, it doesn't make any real world sense (nor does it need to) and it's rife with merchandising opportunities. Get over it.

Given that it's Ozma I wouldn't expect a re-release until 2018.

Unlike the JJPrise I'm going to maintain to the last the new X-Wing looks good.

It doesn't look awkward or off balance at all to me. I like the staggered look of the wings.
