I think the VF-4's pricing was already at the markup cost.
-
I doubt the VF-4 would be marked up, honestly.
-
If it ain't SDFM they can keep it.

He also oversaw the shitty V.1 25's as well. His stamp of approval on a toy literally means nothing.
-
I feel for you guys still hunting for G's, though I am surprised Bandai haven't popped off a 25 Leon version just to keep the visibility up.
-
It wouldn't take much to get a V.3 right, really. Give it a real double jointed elbow, add a locking mechanism for the wing bar (or just remove the damn thing) add an additional click/more range to the upper thigh and fix the ankles!

There is another possibility why the Arcadia is scoring higher in votes right now. if you go look at the introduction to Macross thread a lot of people on this board either discovered Macross through Plus and/or were re-introduced to it through Plus. The 19 is their favorite Valk. Not 3D-rendered, Frontier Isamu 19, but hand drawn Plus YF-19. Despite how accurate the Bandai is to the Frontier likeness, the Arcadia looks like the hand drawn YF-19. And, yes, the lack of tampo actually means it looks more like the Animation than not, so it won't bother too many people that it isn't there. My kingdom for new ankles.

You should have received one. My payment is due by the 24th. EDIT: No, I can't read my own e-mails correct anymore. I haven't received payment request yet either (and I'm not too broken up about it right now anyway.)

This is a fascinating read. All of the Arcadia fans are like "I like my Arcadia because..." all of the Bandai one's are like, "Arcadia sucks, Bandai is better, because Arcadia sucks!" It's almost like one side likes their toy and the other is just looking to grind an axe.

Other than having a funky color they're just sweet potatoes. They aren't limited to the Philippines, they grow wild in Hawaii as well (as a matter of fact you can buy them at Natural Grocers here in Albuquerque too.) Whatever these Ube recipes are, they're just specific ways the Filipino's would prepare them, like here in the states we've probably just bury it in butter and cinnamon/sugar (though I'm not sure why you would want to cover up the natural flavor as they're amazing by themselves.)

What makes the Macross toy line hold their value so well?
Mommar replied to Shermantank's topic in Toys
Short answer, niche show and niche product. Long answer, the show can only be distributed legally in Japan due to oddities with program broadcasting in the US in the 80's combined with a miserly US company that has strong armed it's way into blocking all Macross broadcasts from outside Japan. Thus, smaller market, smaller batches of toys produced, toys are difficult to obtain outside of Japan. If you don't already know the story DYRL is the most confusing bunch of beautifully animated BS. It does not hold up on it's own. You would have to watch it with whoever was viewing it and explain the original as you go to have it make any sense. It was truly "for the fans" and doesn't even attempt to be clear to newcomers. -
I didn't know that was a thing but I want to try it!!!

Cool for the people who have wanted this. Looks like it's proportioned well. One of the few things I was never into so at least I can pass this one up.
-
This is what the toy looks like. Note the stabilizers on the bottom part of the legs. There's also a patch on the back of the thigh (not pictured) and the little bits of plastic around the backpack boosters in that blue color as well. Totally serious, in the show the color of those fins change a lot and what they've gone with here is... puzzling, to say the least. Just FYI, the people in the toy thread are... touchy, to say the least. They prefer Bandai Valks because of enormous amounts of horrible, oversized, blurry obnoxious tampo versus cutting out their own properly sized decals (which they decry as being stickers because only water transfers are decals...) and customizing the valk to look as classy or obnoxious as they like. A few do repainting/weathering... most of them just cry about the color and cost.
-
Well, this is... insane.
-
Yes, that's what I'm talking about. The stabilizers on the legs. Maybe I wasn't clear?
-
From what I'm getting from a thread I started asking about the tail fin in the official Macross thread Macross Chronicle shows the stabilizers as being "light grey" with a hint of blue. Which I feel is a good description for the main portion of the toys body, but doesn't jive with the toys stabilizer or some of the confusing, more blue, screen shots.
-
We have a whole boatload of screens from the anime. And sometimes that tail fin is BLUE. davidwhangchoi noted it appears the color of the tailfin changes between blue and grey depending on whether or not the background scene is blue or grey. I was just wondering if there's more to the coloring of the valk than we know, like some background info from one of the books, or a story somebody from the production told, or anything else. It could be animation errors, etc... but nobody knows. The Arcadia toy is coming with a rather blue fin, I'm not personally fussed about, but a few people are LIVID. I just want to get some background.

Well, I'm just looking for Renato or Seto or Tochiro or one of those guys who has access to a lot more info and who can understand Japanese to inform us what is going on. A few people like Kyp just lost their minds and I'm pretty sure Arcadia isn't purposely attempting to piss him off solely. They got that data from somewhere.
-
So I know there are some of you here who are extremely knowledgeable about the production of the anime and the background to a lot of the details, etc... who aren't necessarily toy fans. Right now we're having a debate about "correct" colors on the 0A, as the Arcadia 0A currently has dark blue tail fins, plus a bit of a patch on the back of the calf and some little bits of the backpack in Gerwalk/Battroid. Some people are furious and say it's wrong and should be grey, but when watching the anime there are scenes where it looks grey and others where it's blue. Do any of you guys know anything about what the color is supposed to be?
-
Is it possible there are production notes that indicate the 0A Shin is flying was technically supposed to be the color of his 0D but since this emergency sprang up he's flying an only partially painted fighter? Or one of the animators decided to put a bit of the color from the 0D on the 0A to signify it's still the same pilot? This is a pretty confusing situation really. And despite how much people dislike the color of the 0D it was a blue plane and they made it blue. I don 't believe Arcadia just up and went "f.u.c.k. it, just make 0A the stabilizers blue" without some sort of reference telling them it was that color (regardless of whether they actually get the tone of it correct.)
-
Interesting observation. Either that or there was an animation error and the fins are opaque and are taking on whatever color is in the background. lol
