I watched episode 1 last night and liked what I saw. The texture models were great, like the uniforms and so on. THe action was nice, like the Naval style battle between the ships. The character animation could've been better, as some movements were overblown, others too understated. Still, it had a good look to it, and as a light excursion into the early UC timeline, it wasn't bad. I think it works as a half hour show. If this were a ninety minute film, the animation would probably get rather tired after a while. Music was great. I really liked the opening song. I hope someone subs the second one. The Zeon POV was interesting.

Looks good so far. Nice textures.

That actually soulds kind of interesting. Though there should be homemade melee weapons. Basically, it would be Labor Crime. Why do I suddenly see Gundam/Patlabor crossover fanfics? Still, the racial strife and such would be interesting. Lots of groundwork for desperation and so on.

Nice. I like the weathering.

How do you figure it's not? Because you just did nothing but describe plot elements (plot elements that incidently the majority of the time only carried superficial similarities to similar events in the original Gundam) and nothing about the actual universe itself. Plot elements yes. Superficial no. There's nothing wrong with SEED borrowing from other shows, as long as there's it's own spin on things. Flat out ignoring the similarities just because it's Cosmic Era and not Universal Century is just plain childish. The universe is largely carried along by the plot. Hence, the plot is basically the universe. It's the fabric of the story. It's a universe where normal people fight extrodinary people because they are different. They do it with giant mecha called gundams. The set up is similar, the progression is similar. Next I suppose you'll say Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has nothing in common with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. After all, the music's changed, and some new elements are added. They're completely different, right? So SEED is a retelling of the One Year War. Big deal. Get over it. It doesn't change what it is. You complain about mindless UC Zealots. How are you any different if you refuse to acknowledge an opinion backed up with decent reasoning?

Kind of like ASS and ILA huh? The HK fansubbers. I've seen AG Freedoms's work on 0079, seemed pretty good. Thanks for the pointers.

Very interesting discussion guys. I agree with Effect on the "do they watch it for mechs or story" comment. I watch Gundam for it's compelling characters and plotline, as well as it's commentary on war and such. Which was why I didn't care for G, it was mostly just a fighting show, though I probably missed some of it's good points in the little I saw. I do meet a lot of people who seem to think it's all action, and won't give it a chance. One guy's convinced that they're all the same, so I do disagree with him a lot. I haven't seen Turn A outside of one episode. Maybe once I clear some disc space, I'll check it out. I'm so behind. Any fansub group recommendations? Maybe I'll check X out too. After I rewatch 0083 now that I have the tapes of it. I really like F91, so I'd love a Crossbone anime.

Tell me if he also added, ",or the one" at the end. That's the rest if it. I couldn't remember, but I don't think so. Out of curiousity, were there any others? -
Those color pics look great. I wonder how the final toy will look. Though I haven't gotten that far into Mospeada, so I'm not too familar with the mecha.

Personally, I'd love a return to UC Gundam. I just finished rewatching 0080. Great OAV. Probably my favorite along with 0079. I'm going to rewatch 0083 which I remember liking a lot. Maybe they could continue the storyline started in F91 or something. Only if they can bring something new to it. A thirty year gap is more than enough to make something that should conflict too hard with the storyline, though I haven't seen Victory. I don't think UC is dead, just as long as they have the right ideas, new life can be breathed into it. It'dd be nicer than just creating yet another universe. If anything continue something established. If they do make another universe, make good use of it. Make it totally different in ideals and direction. Just not as weird and silly like G. I haven't seen much of SEED. I saw about ten episodes and just got distracted. I've liked what I've seen, so I intend to finish it. It is basically a reworking of the 0079 storyline, with elements of 0083(enemy gets ahold of new Gundams) and maybe 0080(the friend vs friend thing). I haven't touched Destiny yet, as I haven't finished SEED(though I do know who dies and such). I haven't seen enough to really know if I'd want it to continue. Oh, and what I've seen of the dub is truly appalling. THe casting is atrocious.

After Global tells Roy that they're to busy to search for Hikaru, Roy says something like, "I understand. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I know." A blatent referrence to The Wrath of Kahn. That's the only Star Trek one I caught in what I've seen. -

I got that at my local animart last christmas. Paid about fifty bucks for it. I got to flip through it before buying, so I knew it was worth it. I'm not one to usually drop that much money on a book. It's got Macross, Orguss, Gunbuster, Gundam, and plenty of originals. -

I kind of hope they do retranslate it, though I'm not a fan of their policies. I'd only want that as I too would think that it's pretty sad that an Animeigo release is put out with ADV logos all over the place. I'm inclined to side with Keith. Animeigo was most likely not given the option. -

So we were only supporting HG with the Animeigo release? How do you figure that? I take it you mean the recent boxset. -

I heard that too BSU. So I definitely think there was at least the rumor. I'd be surprised if ADV resubbed it. They might change some lines, but they'd be foolish to dedicate man power to translating something a superior subtitling company already did. One of Animeigo's translators whom worked on Macross works for ADV now too. Chances are they'll release it in some 6 disc boxset. I doubt they'll put too much effort into it. All the hardcore fans have the Animeigo release, so they'd have to provide some premium extras or something to hope to get them. The dub would be to market to the diehard "dub-only" crowd. Probably lots of reference to Robotech and plugs hailing it as a true classic to try to stir up interest in something most fans avoid. How well does a twenty year old show sell to the Adult Swim crowd? -
Saw that myself at AX. Looks pretty cool. Gotta love how effective the "Do Not Photograph" signs were. But then, I don't remember noticing them myself.

It's called imprinting. It happens to me too. It's not so much that I can't stand it, it just sounds wrong. Doesn't always happen though. I saw most of Robotech first, and prefer the original actors. Saw Cowboy Bebop dubbed first, and like both. -

Ok, the pics I took of my Aestivalis came out blurred. I have some left of film from AX, so I'll take a few more shots with a camera I'm more used to using. Once those get developed, I'll post them. Then I need a new project. -
I'm glad I missed this announcement at AX. who knows what I would've felt. I definately didn't expect to hear this after getting home. Though given their dealings with HG, it's not too big a surprise. From ANN Well that explains Animeigo's discontinuation of the DVDs. Given all the work that they put into the show I'm sure this feels like a punch to the gut. So now ADV has Robotech and all of the shows that make it up. Man do I need to finish getting those boxes while I can. As for a dub, while it might broaden it's audience(though usually dub-only fans tend to also avoid anything that "looks old"), it'd be kind of weird. Didn't HG stop Animeigo from dubbing it because they didn't want it to conflict with Robotech? I seem to remember hearing that. I wonder if they'll bother retranslating it.

I saw the original post, it had a lot of video flicker. Is this the copy that filters that out that I've heard of? The trailer was ok from what I've seen. I missed all the Robotech panels at AX due to waiting for concerts or meeting up with family. At least the animation looks to be improved from that awful UN promo.
