Ask I thou shall recieve. My friend shares my fandom of Gunbuster, so he showed me a link to a photoshot a con friend of his did. http://lionboogy.livejournal.com/274928.html#cutid1 Also: http://members.cosplay.com/costume/40420/gallery/ http://members.cosplay.com/costume/40922/gallery/ So great to see Gunbuster cosplay, especially when it's done this well.

The only info is in Japanese. Basically the site appears to be someone's pics from a con. The only link lead to Gainax's Gunbuster homepage. Here's the link: http://wildbear.ddo.jp/WF04S%201.htm and the info under the pics. I'm not sure if it says anything of use.

I found this looking for other things. Is this already known of, or something new? I assume the former since the pics were found on a page dedicated to a 2004 con, but I don't remember seeing this. It looks positively awesome. http://wildbear.ddo.jp/WF04S%20014.jpg http://wildbear.ddo.jp/WF04S%20017.jpg There appears to be a prototype in the background in this pic. http://wildbear.ddo.jp/WF04S%20016.jpg Apparently retails for 9500 yen.

Andreas Katsulas Passed Away...
Mercurial Morpheus replied to haro genki's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
In the words of J. Michael Straczynski, "Just over a year ago, Andreas Katsulas -- who loved smoking with a passion that cannot be described -- was diagnosed with lung cancer, which by then had already spread to other areas. He quit smoking at once and went on a healthy diet and vitamin program, but there was little hope of a good resolution even though the new regimen was very good for him. When we spoke about it, he laughed, and said, "Now that I'm dying I've never felt better!" His spirits were always up and positive, putting everyone at ease about his condition, because...well, that's the kind of person he was. A couple of months ago, he and his wife convened a dinner with me, Doug, and Peter Jurasik, which was filled with laughter and stories and good food. He wanted to know all the stories we never told him because, as he said, "Who am I going to tell?" So we did. Because we knew we were saying goodbye, and there would not be a second chance. Last night, in the company of his wife and family, Andreas closed his eyes and went away. He lived an amazing life...full of travel and wonder and good work...was part of the world renowned Peter Brook company...he saw the planet, loved and was loved, ate at great restaurants, smoked too many cigarettes...he lived a life some people would die for. And, sadly, due to the last part of that equation...he did. Memorial arrangements are still being worked out, but will doubtless be private. Andreas is gone...and G'Kar with him, because no one else can ever play that role, or ever will. I will miss him terribly. J. Michael Straczynski" -
Andreas Katsulas Passed Away...
Mercurial Morpheus replied to haro genki's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh man... G'kar was one of my favorites. I didn't know that Franklin had passed either. RIP He was a great actor. -
CCCP or K-lite Mega are the best. I use the latter. This particular fansub isn't too bad. Nothing stood out as being wrong. As for the show itself, anythings better than the tripe that is the TV series.

Bandai Visual Usa's New Label
Mercurial Morpheus replied to areaseven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Like I said, Manga Entertainment had nothing to do with that. Manga UK got it first. They're the ones that cut the heck out of it. Trust me, Manga Ent is just as pissed as we are. Manga UK never sent them the sound effects and music track. So they simply can't do an uncut release. Keith was being quite forward about many of the things most companies would never admit too. -
I spoke with Keith Burgess at Anime Los Angeles, and he confirmed that they've lost the license to the show. They didn't know for certain until last month. Basically, their licenses with Bandai were expiring. Bandai decided that they wanted them back. Instead of telling Manga outright, they decided to jack up the price for renewals. They also refused to give them the Wings of Honneamise Special Features without jacking the price up more. So in the end, it just was no longer profitable at that price. So Gunbuster will most likely be released under the Honneamise label.

Decently Dubbed Patlabor Ova's.
Mercurial Morpheus replied to Cmdr. Grant's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I thought the Manga movie dubs weren't half bad. At least the casting was decent, unlike all the other Patlabor dubs(squeeky voice Noa and so on). The OAV's have been subbed for some time by US Manga. I've never had a problem with them. -
Official Gundam Seed Destiny Thread
Mercurial Morpheus replied to Anubis's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
You know, I've only seen ten episodes of SEED total, and that bothers me as well. Just going over the anime section at my local model shop seems to sugesst that every character has like five Gundams to themselves. It would be nice to see ore variety. Turn A was cool for having Zakus (Borjarnons) fighting in support of the Gundam. Though the answer is simple. Bandai learned long ago that Gundam toys and models greatly outsold Zakus, Rick Doms, and so on. That's part of the reason behind G Gundam. Looking over some episodes(I have them all, I just haven't gotten into it), the Gundams do seem to be a bit to fantastical. All these over sized guns, flashy burners and what not. Who built these things, Emperor Palpatine? -
Insane Collection
Mercurial Morpheus replied to nightmareB4macross's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Pretty Awesome collection. I wish I had the room to display all my stuff like that. -
well, he said that they mirrored it. So I'm guessing they just had the same thing coming out of both channels. That's how most mono shows are. Though there are some that just comes through the center on a surround setup.

Checking the ADV site, it looks like the email I wrote them worked. I didn't recieve a reply, though it's possible it went to my spam box, which means I deleted it. They've added the words, "in an English Dub" to the end of the sentence. So at least it's not a bald-faced lie anymore.
-
Exactly the reason why I stay away from 5.1 remixes. Sure, it may envelop you now, but it sounds nothing like what it's supposed to.
-
Turn A's one of my favorite Gundams. I really liked the characters and overall storytelling. I actually kind of liked the mecha designs too. They grew on me rather quickly.
-
The dub features new sound effects? Nice of them to mention. It's reasons like that that I think most studios should leave well enough alone and not try remixing something that was never intended for anything beyond two channels. Panon, when they claim that it's available for the first time as the Japanese saw, that means that they're saying it's the first time it's been available outside of Robotech. That, as we know, isn't true. Not even ADV is so messed up as to equate watching a dub as seeing it the way "the japanese did". Just turn off the subs on the japanese track for that.

Well, like I said, I can understand the whole Robotech bit. Like it or not, it's what Macross is known for here, at least in terms to the original. That, and it is free advertising to another title of theirs and not to Manga, which has Macross Plus and II. So I'm not surprised either, I just wish that they'd let the uninformed that come to their site know that there's more to Macross's legacy than being part of one of the most infamous butcherings in anime history. ;; Like I said, I'm more annoyed at the fact that they seem to go out of their way to rob Animeigo of absolutely any credit, even when they're using Animeigo's liner notes on their website. That's really what bothers me. I'm all for them making Macross more accessible to the more common fan, but give credit where credits due, and don't pat yourself on the back so much when all you did was dub it. Though this is ADV we're talking about so oh well...

ADV just released a promo torrent. It includes a trailer and Mari interview, along with some other things. It's probably the same stuff on the site. Speaking of which, is anyone else a bit disgusted with the front page? The whole "As any true anime fan knows, Macross was one of the series that spawned the legendary series Robotech" is a given and all, but they act like that's all the show was good for. As if Robotech was the only way it impacted anime as a whole. Though what irks me is the whole, "For the first time, anime fans can enjoy Macross as it was originally presented to Japanese audiences more than twenty years ago". Can they really blantently lie like that? It's kind of one thing to forget the whole Robotech Perfect Collection, but quite another to totally diss Animeigo's release as if it didn't even exist. Especially since the majority of this release is probably exactly the same. Newtype USA's review on the site says that ADV's release "finally gives it the care and attention it deserves", because we all know ADV's generic extras and usual 5.1 remixing of their dubs far outweighs the full video overhaul Animeigo poured into it. I somehow doubt ADV would've bothered there. There's more to "care and attention" than some lame interviews. I'm reminded why I stopped reading Newtype after the first issue. I just find that incredibly insulting.
