Who will Alto choose by the end?
Mercurial Morpheus replied to wolfx's topic in Movies and TV Series
I side with Gubaba. I have a feeling it's not over yet. Though I still see more of a Sheryl end than a Ranka one. It's either her, or no one, or maybe a dying Sheryl pushing him towards Ranka. So I abstain. Courteously. -
I still need to watch 22. Though a quick "Happy Birthday, Cecile" is in order. Hopefully, Lloyd remembered.

I agree there. I think there is a "true" Grace. Just a part of a group of five. It's not one big entity.
-
Oh, I believe that. She didn't really have any saving graces there. I just don't believe there was some big turnaround come episode five. Especially given how poorly her character fit into the episode up to that point in my opinion. It felt a bit forced, like they were trying hard to make her likable. It built over the course of the early episodes, like any character. I've always sort of liked Cathy, though I'll admit that she's not much of a character. I also started liking Grace around the time they began to suggest that there was more to her than the nervous looking woman adjusting her glasses in the opening suggested. I actually found it funny how long that image lasted despite it being proven untrue in the actual show.

Wish we did, since I still think Sheryl always had the edge. Even if in the "fans who side on looks alone" department. I've been saying that for a long while. People make their mind up and stick to it. Though some characters can grow on one. For example, I like Klan a lot better now than I did earlier.

But that's just going to confuse all the people coming in and seeing all the boob talk. I mean, Thanks.

Well Bilrer already said the key to them was whomever controlled them could conceivably conquer the Galaxy the fair and legal way. It's all in who he's supporting.Obviously he set up the SMS for a reason. Leon suggests than them rebelling was part of the plan.Whether it was part of Bilrer's remains to be seen.

Who is going to die in Macross Frontier???
Mercurial Morpheus replied to taksraven's topic in Movies and TV Series
Precisely my point. It seems obvious that she was switching them to prevent the disease from being discovered. Sheryl developing this was obviously part of the plan. When Ranka appeared, Sheryl was expendable. Since she made it back though, Grace probably felt it was best to keep the process going. Maybe she thought she could use a backup. Or maybe she's just plain cruel. -
Hence why I said "not exactly". Of course there's a common tie. Fold quartz seems to be part of it. It's the end goal that's different.
-
Could've fooled me. Oh fandom, how I love to loath you. All that's apparent is that her goals are not exactly Leon's. Control of the Vajra is part of it. Now that we know a side affect of the v-virus (essentially making Sheryl similar to the queen), it explains the blood sample switches.
-
Naw, it just reeks of unbelievability that it would be mere "dislike". I don't know about the forums you frequent, or maybe I just didn't pay as much attention, but I still don't buy the whole "few liked Sheryl before 'Stardate'" bit. I swear I noticed a heavy Sheryl bias from pretty much the get go. Ironically, I think it was "Stardate" that first confused me on Sheryl.
-
Well, I can agree with that. Though to be honest, the way he's been, it still doesn't feel too much like "love" to me. More like friendship, obligation and compassion. Though i figure I'm pretty much alone in this. Still, I have a feeling that not everything was wrapped up in a neat vlittle package. At least, not yet.

I don't see how that works. That would mean that it's only the earring that they're picking up. While we know that it is an amplifier, why would they only notice it now. Besides, what kind of crappy hospital labs does Frontier have if they're just now picking up and a supposedly advanced virus? -
Not to mention that that would set things on a rather solemn path and be rather generic. I didn't feel it was that final. Alto still reads to me as a man not entirely sure what he wants. He could very much have fully meant what he said, and at the same time, not. I think he's not sure himself what he's trying to protect. Particularly how he reacted to Ozma's line on reacting to momentary emotions, and not knowing why he flies. That's not to say that Sheryl isn't someone deeply important to him, but it doesn't entirely feel the same as Hikaru and Misa.

Hear Hear. Though I'd say Ozma still has a chance to kick it. What better way than by rescuing Ranka? Maybe the captain of the Quarter, or some other low-level character. Nothing like stuffing people i the fridge for drama. Though I still think everyone who's going to die has already. Barring Leon and Grace. I even won't be surprised if Sheryl pulls through, through some Vajra miracle, or at least is said to last past the end credits. The v-virus might not even be as fatal as we're lead to believe. Though I'd applaud Kawamori if he has the balls to do it, given her rampant and, at times, irrational fanbase. -
Good thoughts Radd. I agree with you on Alto, though I think its also confusion on his part. Good episode, particularly the rebellion and Leon's stupidity. I even liked Sheryl in this one, and I'll leave it at that. No sense letting discussion try to sour it, again... They keep this up, and they may salvage things. Oh, and to associate that moron to Zeon is an insult to Zeon. Sure, the Zabi's had their stupidity too, but he lacks the charisma.

True, but we know enough to draw conclusions about her personality and some of her motives. She's been developed, if by proxy. I fail to see how this is any different from the people that jumped on the Sheryl/Nanase/Klan bandwagons way before we knew anything about them. A lot of their character rests on fan interpretations, so it is with Grace. She just doesn't have as much as Ranka or Sheryl. Even Cathy is rather poorly developed, but we know enough to like her and sympathize with the loss of her father. Frontier tends to be vague with it's character, giving more a feel or personality than outright characterization at times. Well, last I checked that was the purpose of being a villain. Though i wouldn't call her a mere plot device. She obviously has her reasons, they just haven't been revealed yet. Like I said, I like her because she turned out to be a lot more interesting than I thought she'd be. Seeing as just about everything that's happened has something to do with her actions, I'd say she's a lot more central than you'd think. The whole plot practuically has to do with Leon and Grace's actions. If she's a plot device because she moves the plot forward, I guess Alto and crew are mostly bystanders or plot devices themselves. Oh I hartily agree there. At least somewhat. Frontier, I think, is a lot better making one care though plot rather than character. It makes you want to know where it's going. Where it takes the characters, rather than where they take it. As such, it's not a very character driven show outside of what I said about the villains orchestrating everything. Though it's had it's character episodes, which is why I'm still inclined to agree with you. It strikes me as the type of show that's better on the second viewing. I just find very little of the triangle romantic, and I myself am a romantic. It's a great relationship triangle. It's just that some of the characters can be a bit obscure at times for things to work like they should. Certain things not as solid as they could be. Sometimes we don't get the feel for the characters we should. It's kind of shallow at the moment. So I'm saying it could be a lot better than it is, and lacks some of the punch it needs. Trust me, this has nothing to do with the Ranka/Sheryl debate, and more to do with Alto. Indeed, and the overarching themes and conflict have made up for the somewhat wishywashyness of some of the triangle. Though it goes well with the character action. After characters and plot go hand in hand. So I guess I prefer the plot, which is very rare as I'm usually a character kind of guy. It's got good characters, but they seem to trade off between developing them vs developing the outer story. The second the inner one started, the outer would come almost to a halt in early episodes. So even the plot's far from perfect given that, and Michel's somewhat worthless death outside of being an example to Alto. I think this discussions a bit deep for a rather shallow thread.

Only problem with that theory is that that scene is what created her "fanboys". (well...except me) Obviously she was just taking care of some chaffing. Am I also the only one that finds it amusing that she still sports the glasses? Still. Got to please the megane-ko fans now that Nanase's possibly going monocle.

Umm.. okay. I don't entirely see what you're getting at, but right. Of course any mysterious character looses something when the mystery is gone. Though if done well, it can deepen their character on repeated watchings. Just take the Emperor from Code Geass. Much more interesting now that one understands his motivations and can appreciate how he acts with a regardless of them. Though it's not just the mystery that makes her interesting. MF is also obviously not a romance by that definition, given that character development has always taken a backseat to plot, at least in quality. Romance is a key part, or more so "affections" rather than outright "romance", but the triangle is pretty wretched at the moment in my opinion and Sheryl's character is a bit all over the place right now. I'm big on chara development too, so it's surprising for me to admit that. Though depth isn't everything.
