Wow. Thanks for taking the stereotypical approach and bashing cosplayers with nothing but ignorance and mislogic. First of all, no one does this outside of conventions and festivals where it's become a rather accepted and appreciated part of the event. And even if they do (not everyone's the same after all) and can assure you that they're not jumping up and down like addicts the way you depicted. Your LT analogy is a gross misrepresentation. Secondly, very few "force themselves" to look like a character. Rarely do I see someone drastically alter their regular appearance for a costume. The most drastic I've seen is a guy shave his head for Psycho Mantis. Big whoop. There's even a ton of people that constently only cosplay characters of their body type, which is kind of sad to someone like me, who believes cosplay is a part of fandom. Though some just like to join in and be in costume as well, the costume not mattering as much as just being a part of things. So just like everything else, cosplay attracts people for different reasons. Wigs and makeup can be taken off. So no one's forcing themselves to do anything. Where's the harm in it? How is someone killing a character for you just because they're not anorexic or GAR enough as a FICTIONAL character? "Oh NOES Sheryl has a pot belly and Ozma's too short" If one could only cosplay as characters one resembled, there'd be a lot of characters left out as few people look anything like idealized character designs. It's pretty much a physical impossibility nine times out of ten. I've seen some so-so costumes of favorite characters, but they don't make me care less for them, and it can be even nice to see that other people like them (like how I'm amazed at the number of Rankas when she gets so much flak here). Not to mention how satisfying it can be when people recognize your obscure costume (some people won't even do characters they think won't be acknowledged). How can you not get why someone would cosplay if you've gone so far as to get a tattoo? How is making and wearing a jacket from a show you enjoy any less odd than permanently marking your body with it? I also love how you disapprove of cosplay, yet actively say you find some people that do it hot. Now that is creepy. ;;That's like the photographers that obviously are taking pictures of the cute girls with the costume as an excuse. Cosplaying Macross damages it? How? Do you have any idea how many people decide to watch something because of an awesome costume or skit they saw? Yes, there are some poorly done costumes, and yes people generally aren't as attractive as the characters they dress as, but what right have you to say it's something only a druggie would do, or that it's any creepier than having someone ink Minmay or a Valkyrie onto your arm. (for the record, I have nothing against tattoos, and appreciate them like cosplay, just making a point). It a fun activity that harms no one and celebrates something you enjoy that takes some courage to do. It can build confidence and allow you to meet new, like minded people while showing off your fandom and skills. What's so wrong about it? Do you really want to be like the elitists that bash some cosplayers just because they aren't as skilled or are overweight? They're sadly out there, and proof or the courage needed to actually do this. Also, if you think Macross is so different from other anime, you're largely mistaken. MF itself appeals to the Bleach and Naruto crowd just as much as it does the "mature" crowd. Get off your delusional high horse please. Keep your petty change. Sorry if I'm being rude, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but your logic is vastly flawed. You don't think much of cosplay, that's fine. I have no problem with you not liking it. I DO have a problem with you saying it's harmful, creepy and parallel to substance abuse. That's just messed up. Particularly when it's no weirder than forever having Minmay or whomever stare lifelessly from wherever you pasted her face. I can take off my makeup after all. Besides, if you don't like it, why are you even in this thread? Don't click on a cosplay thread and I guarantee you we creepy cosplayers won't be an issue for you. There are plenty of sites where you can find your "hot, busty jap(anese) girls", without the weird costumes.. Hikuro, could you post pictures of the real patches when you get them? I'm curious as to how they look. I'm debating redoing the sleeves on my own jacket. At least loosening them up a bit, as they're mildly restrictive as is (the left moreso).

Here's a quick pic from the Aki Matsuri in SF's Japantown the other day off my cell. My weid hand position had to do with hurrying my damn friend up as he was keeping us all waiting, so he apparently caught me mid movement. I officially registered as Ozma due to beard and presence of another Alto. That, and high ponytails are a bitch to get nice... I'll post the Yaoicon pics whenever my friend actually sends them to me (which could be anywhere from soon to sometime next decade). I do have a crap RAZR pic though if need be. The fact that the pics survived at all is a miracle as the card formatted itself no sooner than right after they were transferred. And let's not be silly about height and whatnot. My friend just had an acquantance kick both me and him from a cosplay group simply due to height. It's a bull reason. i can see the amusement in it, but it's not that big a deal. At least it shouldn't be. If we can have female Altos, Michel's and Ozmas, we can have tall Rankas and Klans.

Nice choices Major Focker. There was a lot of good moments of fanboy pandering in this episode. One you omitted that I loved was Ranka returning the favor to Sheryl. Completing the circle by (literally) smacking some sense into her and reminding her just how vital she was in getting Ranka to her place. A little rushed, but good ending.

Man, if you're going to be that bias, maybe I won't post my pics from Yaoi-con...

Gentlemen, I present The Jacket Before After Note that these were taken before final hand stitching. Better front photos to come, hopefully. These were taken at about 5 in the morning at my friend's house.

I could never understand the appeal of having a commission done. Particularly on something simple like this. It lacks the whole "I made this" pride to it. Granted, my friend did the actual machine sewing, so it's no 100% hand made by me, but doing the design work and having full control is much better than relaying entirely on someone else. I've done that once, and it's not fun. Last thing you want is to spend good money to find that you could've done it better yourself for less. Though I suppose if you just want it done, it's an option. Trust me, if you can find a cheap jacket, adding some red material is nothing too hard. The most trouble we've had is shortening the sleeves. Barring some style difference caused by the jacket being bought on a whim, it's pretty dead on. Though that's just me I guess.

Thanks. Though when one factors that making the shirt, as long as one doesn't mind the absence of side buttons, cost me a mere ten dollars (five of it for the stars, so only five otherwise), compared to 90 bucks, it's a no-brainer. Any final thoughts on which patch to use. I need to make it by tonight. Jacket is done barring some handstitching to finish it. Aside for some limited arm movement, it looks bloody awesome.

I'm on a newer computer, so I don't have a full range of fonts yet. I'll grab some more fonts and mess around with it, but it does indeed look more natural. EDIT Something like this?

Indeed? Well, then that'll do as best as any then. Thanks to your pic, I whipped these up. They're not perfect, but they're something. I made an alternate with the school name on it. The scroll work just looked like it needed something. I know its not canon, but it makes some sense. Which do you guys think looks better? I've got a vote for the name version from a friend so far. Naturally, anyone who wishes to use these may. Just give credit when needed.

Thanks a lot. Hopefully I'll have time to whip up something in GIMP. It looks like most fans are just guessing as well. No official image it seems, and the quality fluctuates heavily from shot to shot... I've got the stars already. The pic should help. Maybe I should look at more cosplay pics for concepts.

I finished the bottom lining for the most part, and began work on the side stripes. I've decided to basically sew the over flap down as 2 inches was too wide to keep it screen accurate. It should be done by tomorrow. It's looking pretty sharp so far. The Mihoshi Academy shirt as well. Though I still need a front patch...

That's as big as it gets, I didn't make it. You can try to upscale it. Since I've painted out most of the jpeg artifacts it might look okay. -
Now that's how you make a SMS jacket in leather. Awesome shot. I just got home from working on my own (in cotton/poly ). I find it interesting that so many went for a leather/vinyl look when none of the animation suggests it. It can look good if done well I suppose. I'm more shocked and a little placated by the fact that nobodies gotten the length right, even the sleeves. All of one appeared to shorted the sleeves. The jacket length I get (even I'm keeping the length), but the sleeves are a tad surprising. I'm modding a jacket I got at a thrift shop for four bucks. I'm adding about six dollars worth (less if you only count the cut material) of red polyester. I just attached the side panels tonight. It was a pain to get both sides to match up, but I think I did the best I could. I'm amazed we were able to machine sew it. I murdered the three pockets of the jacket though. No biggie. I also printed out the patches on cotton iron-ons and will sew them on in case I ever get ahold of the real things. It too won't be 100% accurate due to the jacket being used (though can one complain with 4 dollars). There's no chest pocket (I may fake it), and no collar strap (yet). There's a decorative overlap on the byline of the jacket, but I don't think it kills it. Animation omits details after all. I'm going to try to shorten the sleeves. There's a snap overlap for the zipper, but I think I can incorporate it well. It may not be perfect, but it'll be damn close, and at a mere 20 or so dollar investment, a nice bargain. This is my second Macross costume, after Max. I'll post pics if anyone's interested. I hope to finish it by tomorrow.

This is the version I'm using for my jacket. I made the yellow more golden (still came out rather neon, but a lot better) and colored in the white border. I also cleaned up the VF-25 patch, though it looks like the orange could use more work. Looks good on the patch I made though. Since we're on emblems, anyone got the Mihoshi Academy shirt emblem? -

I like your minimal use of color. Has a whole "moment in time" feel to it. -

Fast Japan is fast. I'm waiting for the EoE pics. I so want to add the one with Sheryl to my avatar, but I'm trying to show non-favoritism. Out of curiosity, would this be the thread to inquire is anyone has a decent image of the Mihoshi Academy crest? I'm trying to replicate a uniform. Nice watercolor! Leon actually looks menacing. -
Who will Alto choose by the end?
Mercurial Morpheus replied to wolfx's topic in Movies and TV Series
Didn't you know? Those days were but an illusion. A fantasy conceived by your addled mind in a vain attempt to cope with the ugly truth before you. They never truly existed. If they did, all evidence has been crushed and stomped upon by the almighty Sheryl/Ranka war machines. There is no peaceful co-existence. There is only SHERYL. Barring that "Bless the Little Queen" Though the Large Breasted Resistance puts up the good, if futile, fight. At times like this, sit back, and try to enjoy the ride. -
It sort of does. The head looks vaguely like a Valkyrie helmet too. I wouldn't be surprised if Sara was the true queen. I also don't buy Alto being dead. Though it would be an interesting twist. I'm also really not liking what they've done with Ranka. All that development to merely get warped by Grace. How original. Good episode though. I loved how they twisted "Do You Remember Love?" Kawamori knows how to mess with his fanbase.

I remember reading that it was "4 dollars for the 1080p" version. Though I'm going on hearsay.
-
I've been looking into this. It looks interesting. Any suggestions on which rip is the best. I grabbed Fabulous for now since it actually mentions it's res. Any 1080 rips out there? Looking on 4chan, someone got a heck of a hack job in the latest episode...

[Alpha x Omega] 1/8 Micronized Klan Klein PVC fixed pose figure
Mercurial Morpheus replied to syn13's topic in Toys
I'm not that big of a Klan fan, but as a figure collector, that's pretty awesome. I love the energy in the pose. lots of nice detail too. Alter rarely disappoints. Though I'm rather amazed she's the first one out the gate. I'll definitely pick it up if I bump into it with some cash.
