Never saw Double Dragon, ans Street Fighter, while awful, did have Raul Julia, and vaguely at least looked like it. -
King of Fighters movie in 2010
Mercurial Morpheus replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Why does it sound like they're ripping off Mortal Kombat? Oh, because it was the only fighting game to have a decent movie attached to it. Still, as a fan of both series - What The F@ck!!! It can't be as bad as DOA, can it? Why not just base the story off Fatal Fury or something. Why the lameass sci-fi spin? -
The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0

Thanks, but I've owned the Bome for over a year now. Besides, they're plentiful, as you say. The Wave isn't, and good luck on the Koto. I lucked out find the one shop (ONE) at AX '06 that had her. I want the Wave as it's the only one I don't have, but wonder if it's safe to go to HK to get her. The Koto is my favorite of the bunch. I still need the Nono, but there's no rush on her. Forget a Revoltech, is it too much to ask for a nice Kazumi, or even a Jung? Noriko's my favorite, but I'd like the other two in more than three inches height. Thanks for the link though. I never knew Amazon sold this stuff. Probably because I don't shop there (makes me, what, one of three?). 90 bucks for the Eva-01 DX I bought years ago for $30. The one that didn't even come with a Kaworu. Wow. Just Wow. -
As quoted from his comments: I don't remember any version of the opening having such crappy generic sound effects throughout. So he wants to inform new fans about something they could learn from better informed sources. This ought to be somewhat amusing. All from a guy that rates Godanner as the number 5 best super mecha series all because of ever increasing breast sizes. Though he does list Gunbuster as number two, even if he goes on about the characters being some prototype for Evangelion...

The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0

Actually found a 720p rip already (though after I get it, I find a 1080p raw. As an ownder of a 1920x1200 laptop, I must once again be frustrated at the plethora of 720p Bluray rips. I'd get it, as I don't need subs, but it needs a dual layer, and I'll probably just get the Bluray anyway). One interesting thing here is the inclusion of some sort of commentary track featuring, of all people, Maaya Sakamoto and Yukari Fukui. It seems odd to have two Diebuster members commenting on a show they're not actually part of, which makes me think they either said "screw it" or the rippers put it with the wrong video (though i can hear Gunbuster in the background upon listening further, so I guess that's out, no fansubber's that incompetent these days). No subs for it are included, making it pretty much worthless. I had not heard of such an extra on the DVD, so I assume it's for the bluray? Is it on the US, or is this a Japanese thing. The lack of subs suggests the latter (particular since so many of these movie rips tend to be hybreds [Japanese video, american audio, subs]). They spend most of the time laughing at each other throughout. Though balance returns with the surprise entrance of about halfway through. Also, one guy on eBay's selling the set for a ridiculous 35 bucks. His feedback suggests it might be legit, but it seems to low to be true. Also, anyone get one of the Wave Norikos? I can only find them on eBay for about 30 now, though usually from Hong Kong. I'm weary of buying from sellers there with all the toy bootlegs around. -

It's the same restoration as the DVD, I believe. The DVD had a fair amount of grain in some spots, but it was of expected levels. Nothing insane like DYRL. Though keep in mind that it's a HDTV rip, which is of lower bitrate, and may augment any flaws. I'm sure it was filtered a bit too. Though that's about right for a film based movie. The preview was considerably grainier than those screencaps, but again, of the level one would expect for such a production. Good grain, as it's called Whens this street anyway? DB has it as today, everyone else claims in two weeks. Maybe I'll set it up for christmas. -

Forget that, Diebuster's always had the good boxart. ;; Have they improved the rather lame Gunbuster art? Watching a preview ripped from Macross F 4 (which can be had here for those interested: http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=download&tid=41087), the art of Noriko still isn't that great, but at least it doesn't look like she's getting socked in the face any more. [EDIT] The digital bits revealed that the discs use the same awesome art for Diebuster, and okay, yet badly offmodel art for Gunbuster. Ho-hum. At least the box is better, if still blatently Nono biased. [/edit] Also, is the Gunbuster video as mildly grainy as the CM? I don't remember the HDTV rip as such, but the subbers might have filtered it, as I do remember mild grain on the DVD. Though at least it's the good grain and not the DYRL nightmare. Odd about the radio drama. What sort of R2 extras are we talking here? Speaking of the 720, here's the preview pics for those curious. http://www.thoranime.org/?p=26 Of interesting developments, anyone else notice that Amazon says it's not for sale any more? -
New Star Trek Movie In 2009..
Mercurial Morpheus replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, it's rather odd, isn't it. Though in a world with warp drive, do aerodynamics truly matter? Oh, and the above comments were before seeing the clear shot posted a few pages back. Having gotten a good look at her, I can't say I like her much. While I agree with David H that the little things are all the same, it's what I do like. I like that they kept it in the TOS look, and didn't get all Enterprise-like. It's a lot less angular than most new interpretations, and I like that as it keeps it simple in style with Jefferies. I don't think the refit saucer sticks out too much (I'll admit that the refit 1701 and A are my favorites period). Everything else makes sure of that. I'm still not liking the nacelles, but my main problem now is definitely the rear of the engineering hull. I just don't like how thin it gets and how the pylons connect. It does make the neck look too far back. In fact, it draws attention to the neck. The proportions are just bad... Like the secondary hull is too small. I sort of like the fan version better, even if it's a bit too close and more jaggy. I'm hoping it's an unflattering angle. She looked pretty good in the trailer. She looks great from the front and the rear, but the profile shot just doesn't feel right (maybe I liked it in the trailer as the key part I dislike is obscured). I like the smooth details, the deflector section, saucer and even most of the neck. So pretty much the front. If the secondary hull didn't thin for half the length, she might be okay. I wonder how the shuttle bay fared. Maybe something like this. Not perfect either, but somewhat better. Still, at least it's not all angular and metallic. -
New Star Trek Movie In 2009..
Mercurial Morpheus replied to bandit29's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, I got that Angel dreck instead too. I'm still on the fence with this. On one hand, it looks about right. They kept the movie look, which is forgivable, as at least the Enterprise still looks like the Enterprise. Though the bridge is just meh. Not sure about the casting. At least Kirk for the time being looks off the most. Though I knew the hardest will be accepting the new actors from the get go. Really in all depends on if they hold true to the vision of Star Trek. Their devotion to the look certain key facts (like Pike), and Nimoy's involvement give me hopes on this. Though my sister is naturally appalled. It still feels sort of prequelish from the little info I have. I agree with Hurin on the reboot vs prequel thing. While still a tough pill to swallow, I have more hope for this than Enterprise. I fell out that show really quickly, yet must be forced to acknowledge it everytime something claims the NCC-1701 is the second starship to bear the name. At least as a reboot, one can ignore it as canon. It's alsdo sort of preferable to the CG makeover they pulled. My HDD's too full to grab the trailer at the moment, though I did like the clips I caught on ET. Okay, having seen it, I'm liking it. Though it seems the early pics are misleading on the Enterprise. It seems like a mix of the movie version with some of the one they did as concept for Ships of the Line. The nacelles are a bit too big for my liking, but at least it's still more 1701-A than NX-01. I can't say I'm worried about Abrams, as I've seen none of his work anyway. -

Was about to post saying I didn't get it, but upon rereading, discovered the "Yahoo" part. I thought you'd sent it to my MSN account on file here, and that it blocked it. Makes sense I never got it, as I merely use that address for YIM, it was so overrun with spam... Checking it, there it is. Thanks. Looking things over, Yahoo's definitely cleaned up most of the spam, and someone used the e-mail for a Friendster account for whatever reason, which has been suspended. How odd. -

Makes me glad I never picked up the movies. My friend brought me a copy from his Australia trip, which essentially legalized the R2 rip I was downloading at the time. Which essentially got supplanted by a 720p rip. I can pick this up without worrying about double dipping. Though I still want that figure dammit. ;; Having the film in a 720p HDTV rip, I can tell you that it looks quite awesome. Noriko, you wouldn't happen to still have that pic uncensored, would you? I missed the window. That was apparently another of the captain before hand. -

Ahh, nice to see one of the parallel works in good quality. I was trying to watch them as they were released, but kept missing them. So I've only seen about half. So thanks for the link. (though is it trueHD being labeled as a mere DVD rip?) I caught the last half of the finale on Sci-Fi. First time I'd seen the dub. It's alright, but the word-fit system once again mucks with classic moments. Still, it reminded me about the show. So my interest is finally back into it. -
Well yeah, but anything's better than splicejobs like Robotech. I liked the actors in the dub, but the writing could've been better. The whole "Sharon explaining why she's trying to shoot down Isamu" was sort of muddled by Myung's poorly choosen line leading into it. I never understood the scene until I saw it subbed.

Best Macross animated production (1982-2008)
Mercurial Morpheus replied to Nexx Stalker's topic in Movies and TV Series
I choose the original, as it just has the best overall story, characters and what not. Though I include DYRL in that as well, which, while not as thorough in storytelling as SDF, giving it the lead, is still a great retelling with some of the most impressive cel animation out there. -
That wouldn't happen to include the movie as well would it?
-
I think I've seen that before. It's an awful jacket. Even allowing for lighting and bad photography on the colors, the logo is indeed upside down, the whole things too long, and the worst in the red paneling is way too narrow. It doesn't even show up on the back. Premade cosplay on ebay is fairly common, but that's a pitiful effort.

"Members only" cosplay sites? Sounds rather odd... oh well. Thanks, polidread.

Ah, someone dusted this old girl off, thereby reminding me to finally take some damn pics...Sorry for the three month wait, if I don't get around to it this week, than sometime in November since I'm going out of town yet again. -
I disagree. While interesting, it's a bit too contrived, and the depiction of CC was rather lame over all. The rest was okay, but it doesn't say much for Lelouch to just start it all over again as the ending.
-
I have a friend that was considering cosplaying her. She would've been great too. She had the material and everything, then hated where they went with her. So she made a Ranka costume instead. I think there may be one or two on cosplay.com...
-
Wow, someone who actually used the right style of jacket (short cut and sleeves). I applaud your attention to detail. Even my jacket is too long, but you work with what you've got.

Happy Birthday to the future Miss Macross.

Sounds nice for those that want it, though might I recommend doing it from the LonE release. Lossy compression atop lossy compression is never a nice thing. Looks like I need to clear more disk space (by ironically burning off Frontier itself...) Nice to finally hear the full version of Bless the Little Queen and the battle version of Aimo (which is awesome despite being so wrong...). Good to see they included the whole battle medley. I'd still love some of the other in show versions.

Actually, it is. Hair is very much influenced by ethnic background. Though it also depends on person genetics. Genetics through and through. Some races just grow facial hair better than others. Though I have a friend with Italian and Portugal blood that couldn't grow a beard to save his life.
